Chapter 4

Draco found himself looking for bushy brown hair in the Great Hall at dinner. He wasn't worried. He wasn't hoping to see that her evening went alright. His gloomy mood wouldn't be lifted by her smile. Yeah.

He was about to give up and go back to the common room when she came in. It seemed like she waited as long as possible to eat. He was glad she hadn't skipped the meal entirely. She sat by herself even though Potter and Weasle were still not finished, her back to the Slytherin table. She didn't even spare them a glance.

So that's what made her angry. The golden trio had a little spat it seemed. He didn't feel at all bad for the boys. Hell, they probably deserved it.

Some Gryffindors struck up conversation with Granger which seemed to distract her from brooding as she sat up straighter and gestured and laughed. As he was getting himself dessert, his entourage finished their meals and dispersed from the Great Hall. He took his time eating the trifle and absentmindedly observed Granger as she relaxed and ate. Her conversation partners finished up and she seemed to encourage them to go on ahead without her. There weren't many students left in the Great Hall.

She waved Ginny and Neville off and got some trifle. It was nice being in the Great Hall after the main rush had ended and it wasn't so deafeningly loud. Maybe that is why she was able to feel someone's eyes on her. Irritated, she looked to were Harry and Ron had sat. They had gone already to her relief. Even if she had to be in the same room with them, at least she reduced the amount of time and interaction required. She knew she'd forgive them, but she wasn't ready quite yet. She wasn't really missing them either, to be honest.

Who was looking at her then? No one at the Hufflepuff table was, nor the Ravenclaw. Slytherin was the only one left but she decided to brush it off and wait for a better time to peak. She finished her dessert and stood, shooting a quick glance to her left as she exited.

His grey eyes followed her out.

A/N: good night. Hopefully it'll stop seeming like I'm treading water and we'll get somewhere.
