"Alright, before you leave, pick up the packet on the podium. Do all 15 pages for homework." Mr. Demise grumbled loudly from his seat. Naturally no one in the class said anything. But it was obvious from the facial expressions around the room that everyone was thinking "UGH!" Myself included. I leaned back in my seat, stretching my entire body and eagerly waited for the lunch bell to ring. My eyes shut and I just listened to the utter silence of the room. Well, it wasn't completely quiet. The loud breathing of our teacher could be heard clearly. Suddenly, I felt a shiver slide through my body and my eyes slowly crept open. Someone was glaring at me. Looking at all of the students carefully, I saw no one paying any attention to me. Maybe it was just my imagination this time. That's when I looked to the front of the room to see Mr. Demise staring dead into my eyes. It felt like my heart stopped the second our eyes met. He had no reaction other than to chuckle at my own, I'm sure my face was priceless. The man opened his mouth to speak, but just as he did the bell rang. I let out a huge sigh of relief and practically ran out the door.
"Link!" I heard the man calling to me, but I acted as if I didn't hear him and continued on my way to lunch. The hall was immediately flooded with hungry Hylians', Zoras' and Gorons'. Within seconds it was almost impossible to even walk. I let out a groan and my stomach did the same thing. "The line is going to be long…" My eyes seemed to roll instinctively as I pushed my way through the crowd, until I finally made it to the Cafeteria. Midna was sitting at a round wooden table near the center of the room. Since she was kind of an outcast (being the top troublemaker at the academy) she was all alone. That's how it usually was at lunch, just me and her. Not that I minded it at all. Being with her was fun, and I had her all to myself. Quickly I paced over to her table, Midna's face lit up the moment she saw me.
"Hey, Mutt How was class?" She lifted her head up and I smiled back at her. Acting like her calling me a 'mutt' was an insult. I slapped my hand over my heart and looked to the side dramatically.
"How…how could you say such a thing?" It took everything I had not to crack a smile. My girlfriend just rolled her eyes and tugged at my hoodie, making me fall to the seat to the right of her. Immediately I wrapped my arm around her shoulder and kissed the top of her head. Her pale face immediately turned bloodshot red. It was honestly adorable to me. How she could put up such a bad girl exterior, but be this shy on the inside, also given the fact that we had not shared our first kiss. She never seemed like she was ready when I was. So I did my best not to push her about it. My eyes fell on the tray on the table in front of her. Instantly my mouth began to water and my stomach practically was yelling at me to eat. On Midna's tray was two large, glass jars. A golden soup was steaming on the inside of either jar and a roll was on the side. My wide eyes stared at my girlfriend then back at the soup. A bit of a snicker passed her lips and she slid one of the jars over to me.
"I know how much you love Grandma's Soup so I got you one."
"Midna….I love you." I snatched the soup and brought the jar to my mouth, taking a huge gulp of it. The warm liquid seemed to energize me as it ran down my throat.
"Oh, so I made a friend today!" She sounded very proud of herself. "He said he would sit with us a lunch today."
"Him…?" I raised an eyebrow and crossed my arms, making a bit of a pouty face. "Should I be jealous?"
I had never had to worry about any guy hitting on her before because honestly she scared half the guys here. But now she has a new guy friend…what if he stole her away from me?
"…You could say something like "Wow good job, Midna! You made a friend." Instead of acting jealous." Her mood immediately darkened and I nodded, letting out a bit of a sigh.
"You're right. I'm sorry. But seriously, good job! Who is the guy?" She seemed to have forgiven me when I said "you're right" but that seemed to be the case with most women. Her eyes wandered the large room, looking for her new friend.
"I don't see him. He's probably in line." My girlfriend shrugged and took a sip of her soup. I nodded and scanned the lunch line. Trying to guess who is was. And since I am the type of person who gets jealous very easily I only looked at the 'ugly' people. There was Malo at the back of the line, looking as gloomy as always. Now I and he have been friends for a while, but he is not the cutest guy out there. So I could only hope that he was the person Midna was talking about.
"There he is." She gently nudged my shoulders, soup spilled out of her mouth as she said this. And I couldn't help but think that was extremely adorable. But I tore my eyes from her lips to look at the line. Immediately my mood dropped. Coming out of the line was the new student Sheik. Without meaning to I let out a loud groan. Midna gave me a confused look and stood up waving to him. A small smile passed his lips and he nodded speeding up gently to get past the crowd of people blocking him from our table.
"You know him" I leaned over and whispered to Midna. She once again gave me an odd look.
"Yeah, we met last class. Zant was being an ass to me, and Sheik helped me." I could see a small blush forming on her face when she said that last part. I let out a small puff of air through my nose and bit down on my lip. Trying not to let my jealously get the better of me.
"That's…Great Midna…" I faked a smile and patted her shoulder, slightly pulling her in and pressing a small kiss on her forehead. An even larger blush crossed her cheeks which made me smile. But only a moment later, Sheik sat down across from the two of us, his red eyes shooting from her to me.
"So you two are a thing?" Was the first thing he muttered when he sat down. I wasn't sure but I thought I detected a hint of jealousy in his voice. Heh heh! I did my best not to smirk but I nodded and pulled away from my girlfriend.
"Yes, this beautiful little Twilight Princess is my girlfriend." I smiled real big and finished off Grandma's soup in one final gulp. The warm liquid tingled as it slid down my throat and the herbs filled me with a new found energy.
"L-Link!" Midna's snow white face was now as red as an apple and her small fists reached out and punched my shoulder. This was her way of showing love to me, so I just smiled even bigger and leaned in and planted a kiss on her ear. "B…but anyways, yes this fairy boy is my boyfriend." She turned her head from me and started speaking to Sheik. His only response was to nod and he stuck his spoon into the jar of soup on his tray and politely slurped it up. I rolled my eyes and shook my head at the manner of how he did this. Grandma's soup wasn't something you should eat like any other soup. This was THE soup of all soups. So not treating it as such was unspeakable to me. Apparently the Sheikah boy saw my eye motions and glared at me.
"What?" He lifted his eyebrow and crossed his arms. Which took me a little by surprise and I could only stare into his eyes for a moment. The look he was giving me…he was upset at me. I could almost feel the blood rushing to my cheeks as he looked at me. It almost reminded me of the look that Midna gave me when she was embarrassed. Why is he so cute?! I shook my head rapidly and then locked eyes with him once again. "Well..?" His voice was louder this time and his small fists tensed up a bit. A smirk passed my cheeks without me even noticing.
"You're going about that all wrong…soup such as that shouldn't be eaten like that…"
"And how was I eating it?"
I sat there for a moment trying to think of the correct way to word hoe he was eating. "Like a princess…or prince I suppose…all proper and whatnot." His eyes widened a bit when I said princess and they looked away quickly.
"So…I should eat more like you…?" He looked at me out of the corner of his eyes; His look was almost pitiful and helpless, like he honestly wanted to fix this about himself. It took me a moment to respond but I eventually nodded.
"Exactly…like me!" I gave him a thumbs up and flashed a cocky smile at him. Next to me I could almost hear Midna rolling her eyes. She was clearly enjoying this a lot.
"Please, no one should eat like you…you're a mutt!" She made a snide comment and I chose to stick my tongue out at her instead of replying. She chuckled a little and placed her elbows on the table and her head in her hands, just watching her new friend and boyfriend babble like idiots. After a moment, Sheik asked me to give him an example of how I ate soup. My blue eyes dropped down to the empty jar on my tray. I had finished it all, instinctively my eyes wandered to Midna and then her tray. The jar was only half filled and I gave her my best 'puppy dog' eyes I could manage. Knowing that she wasn't actually going to finish it, I figured it wouldn't be that big of a deal. Her yellow and orange eyes squinted at me for a moment. I could see the thoughts flowing through her head as she decided whiter or not to let me have it. But eventually she shrugged and pushed the jar towards me. I thanked her with another peck on the cheek and went back to my teachings.
"Okay, first thing's first…ditch the spoon…you don't live in Hyrule Castle we don't use those here." I tried to sound somewhat smart but I could see a grin on Sheik's face. "Next you pull the jar to your mouth…like you're taking a sip of some fresh Romani's Milk."
"Romani's-?" He tried to interrupt me by asking a question.
"Shhh! And next you tilt your head back and just it flow down your mouth." I leaned back and just let the liquid fill my mouth before I gulped. Some of the soup spilled out of my mouth and onto my hoodie, which I paid little attention too. Once the jar was nearly empty I pulled the glass from my lips and slammed the jar on the table (not hard enough to break it of course) and wiped my lips, letting a loud, but satisfying sigh out. I gazed towards Sheik and he was just staring at me, giving me an expression that said do you really expect me to do that? Without him even having to say anything I nodded and waited for him to imitate what I had just done. The blonde boy only took a deep breath and threw his head back. Instantly he pulled the jar to his lips and poured the warm liquid into his mouth. A few dropped slid out and onto his white scarf. In only a few seconds the jar was drunk clean and he slammed his on the table, the same as me. Taking deep breaths after he did this, his face was flushed and those red eyes were looking towards me for approval. Only to raise the tension he had I crossed my arms and just eyed him for a moment. Not saying a thing, until after maybe 15 seconds I flashed a smile and nodded.
"And on your first try too! That was good! Soon enough you'll be eating soup like a pro!"
"Like you?" He cocked his eyebrow and grinned in my direction and I only nodded, choosing to ignore the sarcasm in his voice. My eyes wandered up to the clock hanging from the center of the Cafeteria. And almost as if on cue the bell rang, signaling the last class of the day.
"Hey Sheik, what class do you have next?" Midna said as she stood up and gathered all the empty jars and half eaten rolls on her tray. The Sheikah boy pulled out a yellow piece of paper from his pocket and scanned the words real quick.
"Cartography with Mr. Tingle" He tilted his head as he read the name of the class. "Why do we need to learn to make maps..?" He seemed very confused.
"You never know when you're going to get lost in Hyrule. It's a useful skill." She defended and then her eyes widened and turned towards me. "You're in that class too, right Link?" Midna looked up at me and smiled a bit. I looked down at her in a casual manner and just nodded. Yet another class with him I shrugged to myself and looked at the new kid.
"Seems like we're just in all the same classes, doesn't it?" He folded up the paper and slid it back into his pocket and smiled a small bit.
"Yeah it seems so…hope you don't find it intimidating." I crossed my arms and smiled back at him. His red eyes showed that he was actually having fun around me now.
"Why would I find that intimidating? You're nothing special." He snorted and turned his back towards me. My eyes widened and I bit down on my lip, about to charge at the boy. But before I could Midna tugged my pointy ears and dragged me to one of the stone pillars at the side of the room.
"So…you like him?" She had her arms behind her back and was smiling up at me. Giving me a hopeful look, I sighed and as much I wanted to not like that kid…I did. He wasn't as bad as I had originally thought. So I nodded and pulled her in for a hug. She buried her face in my chest and nuzzled into my hoodie. I planted a long kiss on the top of her head.
"As long as he doesn't steal you from me then we won't have a problem."
"That's impossible...I love you, Link"
The words caught me by surprise and I stared down at her, my face flushed. I think this is the first time she actually said the words to me. "I love you too, Midna"
