Here is the chapter I know many of you have been waiting for. Sorry it took so long. Please enjoy and leave a review with any suggestions about what should happen in the story.
Simon
"Hey, Clary! How are you doing?" Simon called.
"I've been better," I replied when he had caught up with me.
"Oh, that whole baby thing, right?"
"Yeah, and all of the parents are freaking out on us. It's not like we planned for this to happen, It just did."
"All I have to say is that Jace better take care of you, or there will be one very unhappy vampire all but willing to drain him if he doesn't."
"I don't think you have to worry about that. He's commited to this."
"Just don't go and hide your child from this world like your mom did. You have seen how well that works."
"Wasn't planning on it, Simon."
"Well, I gotta go for now, but we should hang out more often."
"Agreed! Thanks for being such a great friend. Take care."
I woke feeling an arm draped over me protectively. Ever since Jace had found out, he refused to leave me alone.
The hand print had faded completely durring the night, leaving the perfectly flawed-from-battle skin the same as it always was.
I kissed him softly to wake him, and whispered, "Jace, it's time for us to get up."
Slowly, he stirred and woke from his sleep. "Clary? Is everything okay?"
"Everything is fine. It's just morning. Time to get up and face the new day."
"Anything we need to take care of?" he asked groggily.
And that's when I remembered my dream. "Crap!"
Jace was up and holding me as if to protect me from anything that may harm me. "What is it? Where is it?"
"It's not a danger, I was just remembering my dream."
He relaxed his hold on me slightly. "What was your dream about?"
"Simon. And to make things worse, it was about the baby."
Jace decided he didn't like the sound of that. "Did he do something to harm our child? I will turn that Downworlder to dust if he does anything to hurt you or the baby!" His skin was clear, and the temperature increased rapidly.
"Jace!"
At the sound of his name he realized how worked up he was and let go of me so he could calm down without hurting me. I took this time to tell him about what happened in the dream.
"Simon knew about the baby. He was happy for us and said we should hang out more. No need to worry about him harming us, I promise."
"Then why did you yell like that a moment ago?"
"Because I still haven't told him. He will be the last one to know, and he is my best friend. I should have told him sooner."
"I guess you're right, but I'm coming with you." Jace wasn't going to budge on this one.
"Fine, but I tell him and you are only there to protect me. That's the deal."
He only nodded in response.
"I'm going to call him, why don't you go take a shower. I won't go anywhere, promise."
"Better not," he said while smiling, "I just might have to be angry with you for running off without me."
I laughed and shooed him to our bathroom. As soon as the door was closed, I dialed Simon's number. It ringed five times before he picked up.
"Clary? Is everything okay? Did Something happen?"
"You could say that," I mumbled before saying, "Everything is fine. I just wanted to know if you could meet me today at the park. I wanted to hang out with you."
"Is Jace coming with you?" was his automatic response.
"Yes, but cut him some slack. After all that has happened, he doesn't want me to get hurt. He will only be there to protect me. Nothing more, I promise."
"Alright, for you. I can meet you in about an hour. Is that going to work for you?"
"Yeah, that should be fine. See you then, Simon."
"See you soon, Clary."
I hung up and headed to the closed door of our bathroom and knocked before opening it. Jace was still in the shower, but that didn't bother me at all. I undressed and joined him.
"Simon will be meeting us at the park in an hour."
He wrapped his arms around me gently and kissed my shoulder. "And I'm only allowed to be your protector. I don't like it, but for you I will deal with it."
"Thank you, Jace. I love you."
"I love you, too."
Simon was waiting for us when we made it to the park. "Were you waiting long?" I asked.
"No, just a few minutes."
"Okay, good," I said, shifting from one foot to the other.
"Is something wrong, Clary?" Simon asked, turning his eyes to Jace. "What did you do?"
Jace kept his mouth shut, but looked over to me.
Simon turned to face me again. "What is going on?"
"Well, I-I have something to tell you."
Simon didn't say lanything, just waited for me to continue.
"I just found out that-" I paused, unsure of how I should say it. And in that moment I realized that any way it was said, it still sounded the same. "I-um, I'm pregnant." I finished in a whisper, but I knew he had heard. I saw his face go from confused to surprised to angry.
"What?" he yelled, "How did this happen?"
Jace almost started to reply in his normal sarcastic way, but I stomped on his foot to stop the words.
"It just kind of happened one night. It wasn't something we planned." I blushed in embarrassment. "I thought I should tell you before I started getting big."
It seemed Simon was speechless. He just stared at me, waiting for something.
"Say something, Simon."
"You're not joking, are you?" he finally said.
"No."
"Great, more Herondale sarcasm to put up with." Simon began walking away.
"Simon, wait!" I said, running to catch up to him. I wrapped my arms around him to hold him still. "Please don't go. I need my best friend, and that happens to be you."
He looked into my eyes for a moment before blinking and saying, "For you I will stick around. But right now I need to take care of a few things. I'll call later." He hugged me carefully and turned to walk out of the park.
I began crying and asked Jace to take me home. That had not gone the way I hoped. I could only keep telling myself that he needed some time.
"Maybe we shouldn't have told him." Jace said quietly.
"Because that would have worked so well for us. He would have noticed me getting bigger eventually." I mumbled back.
We were back at the Institute, in our room. He had laid me down on the bed and sat with me while my tears had fallen freely. Now I couldn't cry anymore, just feel the pain of loss as I waited for Simon to call or text.
"He'll come around, Clary. He cares too much for you to just stop coming around. That vampire will never leave you behind, and that's something I know for a fact." Jace said softly.
The pain eased slightly, and I was able to sit up.
"Shouldn't you get some rest?" he asked.
"I'm fine. I need to get out of bed." I replied. without waiting for his reply, I stood and headed for the bedroom door. Even if I only went to the green house, I needed a change of scenery.
I knew Jace wouldn't be far behind me, so I didn't wait for him to follow.
My phone beeped, and I checked the screen. Simon had left a text.
I'm sorry for the way I acted this morning, you don't need that kind of stress in your condition. I'm happy for you and Jace. I hope you aren't angry with me. We should hang out soon. I'll talk to you later.
"So you were right," I told jace, "He just needed some time. He wants to hang out soon."
"I told you. Even if I don't like that vampire, he is a permanent part of your life."
I felt so much better now, I could breathe.
Jace hugged me tightly to him and kissed the top of my head. "I love you, Clary."
"I love you, too." As soon as the words were spoken, my stomach started to twist and turn. "Jace, bathroom!" It was the only thing I could manage before focusing on keeping the vomit inside until I was in a bathroom.
Jace held my hair back while my body took over. I choked on the bile as it came up.
When it was over, I fell back into his waiting arms. "It's okay, Clary. You'll be okay," he kept whispering to me.
The morning sickness was so annoying. I just wanted it to end.
"I heard you told Simon today," Isabelle said carefully, "Are you okay?"
We were in the dining room eating dinner, Jace to my right in case something happened. Isabelle was sitting directly across from me, watching as I pushed my meal around the plate.
"I'm fine now, I just don't feel like eating anything."
Jace looked at me, "You need to eat something. You are eating for two you know."
"I know, I just dont want to throw it up." I took a bite, then another, and started palying with it again.
"Simon called, worried that you dind't reply to his text."
"Why did he call you, Isabelle?" I asked, trying to sound innocent, "He could have called Jace.
Her face turned an instant shade of blood-red. "It was- He- We aren't dating or anything- He was probably just intimidated by Jace-" she stammered.
I only nodded. We all knew she was trying to keep her relationship with Simon a secret, but we also knew that it was more than a friendship.
"Well, I think I should head to bed for the night. It has been quite an interesting day." I got up to put my dishes away, only to be pulled back down into my chair.
"You will just sit right there while I take care of the dishes," Jace declared softly for forcefully, "And then I will take you to bed."
I didn't argue, just waited.
When he was done with the task, he picked me up and carried me to the room.
"I can still walk, you know."
"What if something happened? I would never forgive myself if you or the baby got hurt."
He was being over protective, but I knew nothing was going to change his mind about this. How could I blame him? Demons were a constant part of our lives, not to mention my brother. I let Jace put me to bed and I slipped into a peaceful sleep.
Hope this chapter was good. How do you like the situation with Isabelle and Simon? Should it go farther? Let me know what you think.
