Chapter 4

Emma-Present

Orphanage

"Bye everyone!" shouted Emma. Emma placed her bags into the trunk and jumped into the small yellow beetle that she was now able to call hers. The car was a little rusty but Emma was just thankful to finally be able to leave this horrible place.

Emma started up the car and rode away from the past. She always believed that whenever a door closed a new door opens, even if that door was opened before it would always be and adventure. She made her way on to the parkway. This was it she was actually leaving.

Off to Storybrooke… even though it isn't on the map. Emma thought to herself as she drove off to where she assumed would lead her home. For some reason she just knew how to get there, like some type of magic...

Mary Margaret- Past

Emma 6 years old

Emma opened the door excitedly, to a smiling cheerful women looking back at her. "Hey Sweetheart" Mary Margaret said happier than usual.

The usual babysitter had cancelled that day and Emma told her mother she wanted Mary Margaret to babysit her. Regina caved into her daughter's request since only because Mary had babysat for them before on a different last minute change. Regina surprising let her old enemy near her Emma. She figured there was no harm because Mary didn't remember anyway.

"Okay Emma I will be back around nine thirty" Regina explained as she put on her earrings. She than focused her attention on Mary Margaret "I made lasagna that is cooling off on the stove.. I want Emma in bed by eight thirty and nothing with sugar tonight"

"Aww Why not Mommy?" Emma whined with a pout.

"Last time you had sugar before bed you were up all night and I am not dealing with that again little missy" Regina answered as Emma wrinkled her nose annoyed knowing her mother was right. "Okay sweety I have to go I will kiss you goodnight when I get home, I love

Emma-Present

Somewhere in Maine.

`Okay maybe it wasn't such a good idea to just go with the sense of make believe magic` Emma told herself as she filled up with gas. The man that worked there had said he never heard of a town called Storybrooke any where around here and that the only thing in the way Emma was headed where miles of forest and he was right. Emma bought a map of maine and started looking for storybrooke or an unknown town of some sort, There was nothing there but forest and different towns until finally Emma saw it, the bridge that led into storybrooke it had to be there and it was only 10 minutes away. It seemed a little strange that Storybrooke wasn't on the map but it didn't stop Emma at all.

Mary Margaret- Past

Emma 6 years old

"Time for bed Emma" Mary Margaret said as she layed out the pajamas for the girl on the bed.

"But I don't want to go to bed." Emma said as she ran into the bathroom to change.

"It is already a half an hour past your bedtime though and if your mother catches you still awake I wouldn't be able to babysit you anymore, because you know how your mother is" Mary Margaret said walking around the girls room.

"Okay, I guess I'll go to sleep" Emma said pouting as she came out of the bathroom."but can you at least tell me a story?"

"Sure" said Mary Margaret "Sit down at get comfortable." Emma layed on the the bed and looked up at her babysitter as she sat next to her

"What do you want to here a story about?" Asked Mary Margaret looking down at Emma.

"Something about Fairytales, like princess and princes." Emma said as she leaned against the back of her bed.

"Okay" Mary Margaret said "I guess I could try"

Emma smiled back at Mary Margaret anxiously waiting for her to start the story.

"Okay, Once Upon a Time In the..." Mary Margaret started hesitating.

"In the Enchanted forest" Interrupted Emma.

Mary Margaret smiled liking the name. She continued "Ya, Once Upon a Time In the Enchanted forest there lived a beautiful princess, the fairest in all the land"

-Regina-

Regina opened the door with her mascara bleeding and her hand on her stomach. She tailored into the room hoping that no one would here her or see her. Regina was happy to see that no one was there. As she made her way up the stairs she herd a faint voice. Regina cracked her daughter's door open to hear something that broke her heart and put darkness back in it.

"The princess was terrified of the queen not knowing what to do the princess ran far away off into the forest..." Mary Margaret said before getting cut off.

"Okay, Ms. Blanchard time to go home" Regina said as if she were about to rip the babysitters head off.

"But Mom she was..." This time Emma was the one that got cut off.

"No, I will go" Mary Margaret said as she waved goodbye to Emma and slipped out of the room without making eye contact with the obviously angry Regina.

"Why did you have to scare her away, She didn't even get to finish the story" Emma said with a pout.

"I am sorry that you were supposed to be asleep half an hour ago." Regina said crossing her arms. Emma frowned and curled into a ball as she always did when her mother was mad. "What story was she telling you"

"I don't know, but it was a lot like your, actually a lot like yours except with a good princess and a Evil queen." Emma said into my knees not looking up at her Mother.

"Get your shoes on Emma" said Regina walking out of the room.

"What?" Emma asked "I thought I was supposed to be in bed, now your taking me out"

"Don't argue Emma just put your shoes on we're going to Mr. Gold." Regina said

"But..." Emma said but Regina just gave her a death stare so Emma put on her shoes and stomped out with her steaming mother.

Emma- Present

In front of the border line

Emma stopped the car and stared at the bridge with an empty path ahead of her. She knew that this was it she could remember it like yesterday from all the dreams she has had but she was scared. What if Regina really didn't want me back? What if I came here for no reason? Emma's thoughts kept getting worse but she pushed them aside and started forward.

As if there were some type of force field going that she was going through a huge breeze broke through the car until Emma reached the sign that hadn't been there before 'Welcome to Storybrooke.' Emma excitedly went forward through the forest path with her head held high and the memories of her mother rushing back through her head.

Regina- Past

's shop

The door opened with a ring as an angry Queen marched in dragging her child with her. A man came out from behind a draped blanket that was hiding another room. Emma had always been creeped out by the man, she never really knew why. "May I help you?" asked the man. He leaned against the counter

.

"Mary Margaret remembers" Regina Exclaimed.

"Remembers what?" the man asked.

Regina covered her daughters ears. "Now listen to me Gold. You have to cut the crap and tell me how she remembers because she was telling Emma stories of her actual past." Regina exclaimed pissed off. She uncovered Emma ears and gestured her to look around the shop.

"I don't know how she remembers but maybe it has something to do with the fact that you let her near Emma." Gold answered.

"What is wrong with letting her be around Mary Margaret?" Regina asked with concern in her voice.

"You don't know, after all this time you don't know" Gold said with a chuckle.

"what do I not know?" Regina asked ready to pounce.

"Well she is the one, The saviour that can break the curse, Snow Whites daughter" Gold said looking over at the little girl that was staring up at her own mobile.

Regina almost broke down in tears hearing the words that she made herself forget. She turned around and grabbed Emma's arm dragging her out of the room. The two of them kept walking as tears ran down Regina's face.

"Mom, What is wrong? Were are we going?" Emma asked concerned with her mother.

"I am not your mother" Regina said pushing Emma into the car Regina followed and quickly started the car. "You are not my daughter I adopted you five years ago from an orphanage in boston." Regina paused. "and now you are going back."

Emma- Present

In Storybrooke

Small tears rushed down Emma's face as she saw the quiet town that she grew up in. She made her way past past Mr. Golds pawn shop and slowly made her way down main street. Emma saw many familiar faces, but they were all so familiar Granny and ruby stood in front of the dinner fighting. The looked exactly the same as she remembered, so did Mr. Hopper and pongo was still alive. The town didn't seem different at all it looked exactly the same since the day she had been there. It was as though nobody had aged not even the town.

Emma made her way past the clock tower. It was still stuck on 8:15, like always. The library was still closed and the pharmacy still had the twenty five percent off sale up. It was so strange. Emma rounded the corner and stopped. She was in front of a white mansion like house, the house that she was raised in. Home of the woman that Emma forgave in her mind time and time again. Emma was ready for this but all those thoughts she put aside came rushing back making her motionless.

What if she really didn't want me back?
