THE HUFFLEPUFF GIRL: BEST FRIENDS FOREVER - PART 2
.
17th December 1991 (Hannah Abbot is 12)
"Suzy?" Hannah asked hesitatingly. "Do you think he really did it?"
The two pre-teens were ensconced on Hannah's bed in the second year Hufflepuff-girls dormitory. The curtains of the bed were silenced, their roommates long asleep. Their heads were hidden under a tent made out of both of their blankets and their hands tightly entwined, Hannah's wand between them. A weak Lumos spell illuminated the scene just enough so that they could see the shine of their respective eyes and their silvery bracelets glinting in the darkness.
"I d-don't know Haney." Susan said trembling. "But it was scary."
Hannah moved her right hand and moved Susan's bracelet, until she held the small, midnight black medieval-style shield in her hand. 'PROTEGO' was engraved in nearly microscopic golden letters on the shield, forming a spiral leading to a purple heart in the centre of the shield.
"I'll protect you." Hannah said. "I got you this and I promise you, you'll be fine."
Susan started crying. "B-but t-the s-sounds… it s-s-soun-ded s-so hor-r-rible."
"I know, Suzy. I know." Hannah started caressing Susan's hair. "I'm so sorry Suzy."
"M-megan s-said he said h-he w-was j-jus-s-t w-war-ning the s-snake aw-wa-y. T-that he d-didn't m-mean t-t-to at-t-tack-k J-j-jus-tin."
"I know Suzy."
"B-bu-t it s-sounded so h-hor-rible."
"I know Suzy, but we'll be fine." Hannah hugged her friend tightly. "We'll be just fine, you'll see!"
"S-sle-ep here t-to-night?" Susan whimpered. "W-will y-you?"
"Of course I will, Suzy. I'll protect you. You'll see." Hannah murmured sadly. "I love you."
Hannah continued whispering reassurances and promises of protection into Susan's hair until she felt her friend's breaths even out and her body relax. Then, she fell into a light sleep herself.
And when Susan, a few hours later, woke up screaming from the all-too-familiar nightmare of hisses, high cold laughs, bodies tearing apart, and warm blood on her cheek, Hannah was there to hold her.

A.N.: Yes, Susan remembers the deaths of her family. Voldemort killed them himself, which is why the Duelling Club episode was especially traumatizing for her, even though she was not sure about what to believe regarding Harry's actions.
