Clary POV:

I was right, we were early, only five minutes so though.
"So, tell me something about yourself while we wait?"
"What do you want to know?"
"If you were a mundane, what job would you have?"
"Hmm... maybe a police officer or boxer. I never really thought about it. What about you?"
"Singer or artist, I love both."
"Sing something for me?"
I looked around to see other couples arriving. "Maybe later."
"Okay, but I'll hold you to that."

We headed into the massive ballroom, which was divided into a dining area and a dance floor. I let Jace lead me to a table and sat down. "Would you like a drink?"
"Yes please."
"Is champagne good?"
I smiled "that's great, thanks."
I watched as he walked away, then turned to the door to watch as everyone came in. Izzy saw me and dragged a bewildered Simon to the table next to us. "Hey, Clary! Jace hasn't abandoned you already?"
I forced a laugh. "No, he's gone to get drinks."
"Oh, sorry Simon, would you like a drink?" I watched as he looked at her.
"No, I'm good thanks." She shrugged and went to get her own drink. "So, Clary, thoughts so far?"
"I'm not sure what to think to be honest. One minute he's an ass; the next he's a perfect gentleman. I searched his room though. He's a very simple person I think. What about you two? How's it going?"
"She's so sweet. She won't stop talking about our wedding though."
"She's probably excited."
He ran a hand through his hair. "You're probably right. As usual."
"Of course." I smiled the smile that was reserved for my best friend. "Okay, so you'll never guess what Jace did when I was in the shower..."

Jace PoV:

As I was walking over to get our drinks, I was intercepted by my mother. "Jace, you can't just leave that poor girl by herself." She admonished. "Actually-"
"I'm really quite disappointed and embarrassed. First, you weren't even paying attention when she arrived; then you didn't even try to communicate with her."
"Firstly, I was making sure my sister wasn't completely crushed by the guy she got. Secondly, I'm on my way to get drinks for both of us now so I'd appreciate if you'd move out of my way."
"She isn't your sister." But she moved out of the way none the less. "But she is." I said over my shoulder as I walked off.

I picked up two glasses of champagne and turned to go back to the table; only to be intercepted by said sister, Isabelle. "How's it going so far? Clarissa seems really sweet; but only with Simon."
"Yeah...I think I might have annoyed her. But it's fine-I think she's forgiven me for what I did."
Izzy glared at me. "What did you do?"
"Okay, so Clary was in the shower..."

Clary PoV:

"Do you want me to beat him up for you?" I laughed. "For now, no. But if I change my mind, I can take him on my own. Also, do you want to train after dinner? I want to try a new move I read about."
"Sure. Just don't beat me to easily, I don't want to look bad."
I always beat Simon so in response I mock gasped. "Never."
I looked past Simon to see Jace and Izzy coming back with drinks. Under my breath I said "here they come." Simon turned around and saw them both, just as my favourite song came on. His head flashed back to me as I grabbed his hands to pull him to the dance floor. "Umm, Clary, you should probably dance with Jace, people might get the wrong idea."
I shrugged "So let them."
Simon grinned and allowed me to pull him. I saw Jace and Izzy look at each other in confusion then Izzy whispered something in Jace's ear. Izzy walked over and tapped my shoulder. "May I?" I stepped back, seeing how Simon looked at her, and Jace was behind me. "Want to dance?" I nodded.

Jace PoV:

We danced for ages. Other couples joined us and left, but Clary never seemed to tire, so I drew energy from her joy and the laughter that escaped her every so often.

Eventually, we were the only ones still dancing, and food was being served. I spun and caught her, with her bent so low that she was almost on the ground. I pushed her up and caught her with my other hand. "Clary, are you hungry?"
She smiled, breathless. "Definitely."
