*three days later*
"Hey, Percy!" He heard one of the kids from the Hermes cabin calling him over. He turned around to look at their entire operation. In the three days she'd been gone, Percy had arranged a group of campers to help orchestrate the search for her. Since Chiron said he couldn't bring out a search team, he brought one in instead. He didn't have one camper from each cabin, but close to it. Each cabin was in charge of certain jobs. Apollo: searching newspaper articles from the East coast, Aphrodite: articles from the Midwest, and Hermes: articles from the West coast.
"Yeah, Kyle?" Percy walked over next to him so he could see what Kyle was working on. "This isn't necessarily Annabeth related, but I found this article talking about this girl who talked her way into letting someone just give her a car. An expensive one at that. She just walked off with it, the manager waving at her in the rearview mirror. Until the guy realized what happened and called the police. They sent her off to this place called Wilderness School, someplace for juvenile delinquents. That was a couple of months ago, and is something weird on its own, but then they also talked about the student's in the school, and some of them sound a little bit wacko."
"What do you mean by wacko?" Percy asked, taking the clip of paper from his hands.
"I mean they could be one of us, Percy," Kyle said grimly.
"That's impossible, the gods said they would claim their kin," he said angrily. They couldn't just back out on this simple promise so early after giving their word in the first place. Was it that hard to say which kid was yours?
"Yeah, well looks pretty possible," Kyle said. Percy sighed.
"Well, alright. Go take this up to Chiron and tell him the story. Have him send out a search party later tonight to go get them."
Kyle got up and moved to leave but stopped and turned back to him. "Percy, you look like shit. I know for a fact you've eaten barely an apple since we found out. Go get some lunch, we got it for an hour or two down here."
"No, no, I think I'll just stay here. Wouldn't want you messing up to horrendously while I'm gone," he said, not really joking. If someone overlook a fact just because he wasn't double checking it, he'd never forgive himself.
"We're just scouring the country, how hard can it be?" Kyle said with a wink and a little shove. "Go on." And he ran off to the Big House. Percy decide to take his advice. He wasn't one for skipping meals so when Kyle mentioned food, his stomach started doing the Macarena. As he walked up to the dining pavilion, a number of campers waved at Percy. While he waved back, his heart just wasn't into it. This used to be his favorite part of camp, besides stabbing Clarisse in the chest of course. Interacting with the campers. The new ones were fun to prank and then get reprimanded by Annabeth. The old ones were fun to see again, prank, and get reprimanded by Annabeth. And Annabeth. Maybe that's why he wasn't enjoying himself as much as he used to.
And maybe that's why he ran into one of the tables when he reached the pavilion, landed on his head for a couple of seconds. Because of Annabeth. Now I know what you're thinking. How can you black out if you still have the curse of Achilles? Believe me, Percy was wondering the same thing. How could I faint when I can't get injured? Because of Annabeth. I think she somehow forced the gods to give Percy a sign to tell him where she was. What he saw when he was asleep was definitely a sign.
Percy realized that he was laying on something hard. He opened his eyes, and realized that it was rock. He felt a slight breeze in his hair and turned his head, just in time to see a freaking unicorn jumping over the Grand Canyon. How he knew it was the Grand Canyon, I have no idea. He's never been. The unicorn was being ridden by Annabeth. Don't ask me why or how. But it happened. Percy was so perplexed he didn't move. As the unicorn descended to him with the rider upon it, only then did he realize it wasn't actually Annabeth. It was Aphrodite, posing as Annabeth. He realized this when she turned her head towards him. Percy didn't see those sharp grey eyes he loved so much, but a startling clear blue he'd only seen one time on a person in his entire life. Silena Beauregard. When the unicorn and fake-Annabeth reached him, Percy opened his mouth in a question. Aphrodite floated down to him and put a finger to his lips right as he was about to ask a question.
"Shhh, this will all be explained soon, child," she said, her finger still to his lips. "Your key to Annabeth lies in the Grand Canyon. Go there before it is too late." She, the unicorn, and the freaking Grand Canyon disappeared. Percy lay in a white sheath of nothing until he felt a slap to his face and really opened his eyes. Clarisse stood above him with a look that almost resembled fear.
"What the hell, Jackson?" she asked, her normal demeanor returning.
"I'm going to the Grand Canyon."
