I walked into Cole's room knowing that Marty would need me as she said goodbye to her son.
"I love you so much Cole and the last thing that I want to do is say goodbye to you, but I have to," Marty said as she signed the papers and handed them to Doctor Kyle Lewis.
"I know that you're looking down at me from heaven with Patrick by your side. I hope that you understand why I had to let you go," Marty pleaded as she held his hand.
"I don't understand," Starr stated as she appeared in the room with Blair by her side.
"How could you sacrifice Cole to save Hannah?" Starr asked.
"Because she's my daughter, Cole's sister."
"Hannah's your sister too," I said.
"What?" Starr and Blair asked at the same time as they looked at me.
"Hannah is Marty and I's child...we just found out about it."
"How?" Starr asked.
"She was conceived the night of the Spring Fling."
"Oh god...I think I'm going to be sick."
"Please try to understand Starr. I've already lost Cole tonight, I couldn't lose Hannah too," Marty pleaded as tears streamed down her face.
"I...I have to go check on Hope," Starr said as she ran out of the room.
"Once again Todd, your history with her as come back to destroy our children," Blair spat out as she followed after Starr.
"We have to take him into surgery now," Doctor Kyle Lewis said as he wheeled Cole out of the room.
"Everything's going to be okay Marty," I said as I wrapped my arms around her. She was in so much pain right now and I hoped that this decision wouldn't haunt her.
"Todd," Marty whispered as she pulled me into a kiss.
XOXOXO
"Todd," Marty whispered as she pulled me into a kiss.
I selfishly let myself kiss her back, even though I knew that Kissing me was about distracting herself from the pain of watching her son die.
"What are we doing?" I finally asked as the kiss ended.
"Make love to me Todd," she pleaded as she kissed me again.
"Are you sure?" I asked.
"Please...it's been so long since I've felt anything but pain. I just want to feel good," Marty pleaded.
If I was an honorable man I would have told Marty that we couldn't make love not when grief was driving her every decision, but I'm not an honorable man.
Marty was offering me something that I had wanted for a very long time, something that I never thought that I would have again and I was too selfish to walk away from her love. "I'd give you anything," I whispered as I kissed her back.
We tore off of each other's clothes as we continued to kiss one another with fevered passion. I laid her down on the bed and I pushed my fingers into her.
"Todd," she whimpered as she rocked against my fingers and grew wetter by the moment.
"I'm going to enter you," I said as I looked at her for confirmation that this was what she wanted.
"Don't stop," she encouraged me as she looked into my soul with her piercing blue eyes.
"I love you," I whispered as I felt the walls of her vagina closing in around my swollen penis and our souls were finally reunited.
"I...I...I've always loved you," she confessed as I thrusted in and out of her bringing complete and utter ecstasy to both of us.
"Oh...my...god," I heard Blair calling out. I turned and saw her standing there with anger, shock and jealousy flashing in her eyes.
XOXOXO
What the hell do you think you are doing?" Blair asked as I looked at her.
"What does it look like? We were making love," I spat out as I looked at Blair. I probably should have been nicer, but I was irritated that she interrupted this special moment between me and Marty.
"Are you really so desperate Marty that you would have sex with your rapist?"
"That's enough Blair," I warned.
"Todd and I love each other, we always have and we always will. I'm sorry that we hurt you, but I want a second chance with him," Marty said.
I was filled with happiness as I heard Marty's response. She didn't regret what we had just shared, in fact...she wanted a second chance with me.
"Are you going to let her speak for you Todd? You said that you wanted a second chance with me. I'm the mother of your child and we had a great marriage."
"That's because Marty wasn't an option. Come on Blair, you can't be that surprised...you've always known how much I loved her and how much I would have risked for a second chance with her."
"You make me sick," Blair said as she slapped me across the face. "Marty, you're a lousy mother. Cole would be turning over in his grave if he knew how you were choosing to grieve him, but then again...what do you care? It's not like you ever loved him in the first place," Blair spat out as she attempted to hit Marty when I grabbed her hand.
"I deserve your anger and that's why I let you take it out on me, but I will not let you take it out on Marty. Now get the hell out of here," I said as I threw her out of the hospital room.
"Do you really think I was a lousy mother?" Marty asked me as she began to cry.
"No...Cole knew how much you loved him. He loved you too, it was obvious from the way that he talked about you. Don't let Blair get to you. She's just jealous," I said as I wrapped my arms around her and kissed her.
XOXOXO
It was the day of Cole's funeral and I knew that today would be one of the hardest things that Starr or Marty would have to do.
"You look beautiful," I whispered in Marty's ear as I wrapped my arms around her.
"I feel like hell. Are you sure that I can't just go back to bed?" She asked.
"You need to go or you'll hate yourself," I gently reminded her.
"I know...I just don't know how to say goodbye to him."
"You can do this, let's go," I said as I grabbed her hand and left for the church.
XOXOXO
The funeral had been emotional. Marty stood up at the podium and talked about what Cole was like as a kid. She talked about how much she loved him and that she would always carry his memory in her heart.
After Marty came and sat by my side Starr walked up to the Podium. She talked about meeting and falling in love with Cole. She talked about what a great man and father he was to their daughter Hope.
After the funeral concluded we went to the burial grounds. I held Marty as she whimpered while they lowered the casket into the ground.
"You have some nerve showing up today after you were the one who gave his heart away to his killer," Blair spat out as the guests were beginning to leave.
"Mom, she has every right to be here. She's Cole's mom and he would have wanted her here," Starr said.
"I'm really sorry Starr. I didn't want to let him go, but it wouldn't have been right to keep him trapped here, letting machines breathe for him."
"I know...and I want you to know that I understand why you gave his heart to Hannah. She's your daughter and my sister...I guess that we'll both have to find a way to forgive her."
"Yeah..."
"I'm sorry about your loss," Starr said as she hugged Marty. The two of them stood there, comforting one another as they said their final goodbyes to Cole.
"I want to see Hannah, will you two go with me?" Starr asked as we walked to our cars.
"Starr, I don't think that's wise," Blair began.
"Of course, we need to see her as well," I said cutting Blair off.
XOXOXO
Starr, Marty and I walked into Hanna's hospital room and found her staring out the window.
"Hello Hannah," Starr said.
"What are you doing here?" Hannah asked as she turned around and faced us.
"We needed to see you Hannah. I ran the DNA test and you're our daughter," I explained to her as I wrapped my arm around Marty.
"Is that why you gave me Cole's heart after I killed him?" Hannah asked.
"Yeah, I couldn't lose another child," Marty said.
"Why do you even care? Especially after you left me in a garbage can?" Hannah asked.
"What? I didn't leave you in a garbage can. My aunt Kiki lied to me and told me that you were dead, please tell me that you believe me," Marty pleaded with her.
"I guess that I believe you. I don't really think that you would have given me Cole's heart if you had been the one to throw me away. I'm sorry that I shot him. I'm sorry that I tried to kill you Starr. I'll never forgive myself," Hannah said as she looked down. "I'm surprised that you even came to see me. You must hate me."
"We don't hate you Hannah, we hate what you did, but we're not going to abandon you," I told her.
"Do you think that you'll ever be able to forgive me?" She asked.
"I don't know, but I'm going to try," Starr said.
"Me too," Marty whispered as she pulled Hannah into a hug. I wrapped my arms around all three of my girls and I knew that somehow we could get beyond all the pain of the past.
The End
