Greetings!
Recently I've been debating on the pairing for this story. Since I have already started, I have decided to let you vote on the pairing. Personally I have been thinking Haruhi x Kyoya or Haruhi x Hikaru. In any case the pairing with the most votes will be the pairing for the story. It can be Haruhi x Anyone from the Host Club. I'd love to hear from you guys.
Once again thanks for reviewing, favouriting, following and even just reading.
Haruhi woke as she did most mornings, groggy and thoroughly unsatisfied. With a brief sigh she heaved herself up, head in hands. It took almost all her strength to pull herself sloppily out of bed and to the bathroom. Her brown eyes widened when she glanced in the mirror and she desperately began making herself look at least presentable. Kyoya would add ten percent to her debt if she looked like she had been mauled by a bear. Actually she would much rather be mauled by a bear than face the wrath of the Shadow King. With one last critical glance in the mirror, it was decided that it was the best she could do. Haruhi threw on her boy's uniform and grabbed her tattered school bag from her room.
Haruhi crept down the dim-lit hall. Ranka was still fast asleep and she didn't want to wake him after a long nights work. Instead she reached into her bag and pulled out a notebook and pen. She tore a page out of the notebook and wrote a quick scrawly note to tell him that she had left for school and his lunch was in the fridge to be heated up. Haruhi placed it on the counter top for him to see, and continued to silently stumble through the cramped apartment, it was more cluttered than she thought. It seemed she would have to make time to tidy once she got back from school. Haruhi dug through the mess thankfully finding her cell phone beneath it. It was a gift from Hikaru and Kaoru. She hadn't really wanted it, but it was forced on her anyway. At least it came in handy. She checked the time only to find she was late ... Crap. Skipping breakfast was a must.
She all but jogged the whole way to school and by some miracle made it in time for morning registration. Haruhi gave herself a moment to catch her breath, before sliding into her seat between the two auburn-haired twins. The pair shot her curious glances, Haruhi was never late. When she met their matching gazes she merely shrugged them off and waited for her name to be called.
"Fujioka Haruhi?"
"Present."
Her concentration only dwindled throughout the day, instead of listening she had taken to drawing in her notebook. As Haruhi drew an extra heart onto her doodle, the teacher's voice droned in the background. She couldn't even bring herself to take any notes. After last night she simply could not focus at all, even if she tried. Her mind kept drifting to the figure she swore had been outside her window.
Kaoru looked nervously at Hikaru, he had never seen Haruhi slacking off in class before. It was unnerving and alarm bells began to ring in his head. Something had to be wrong with her. Hikaru who had been watching her add various flowers and stars to what she had already drawn, glanced up and returned his look of concern. This behaviour was highly unlike her, school was top of her list of priorities contrary to their own personal beliefs. Yet her intelligent brown eyes held a distracted fog in them. Unconsciously, she had begun to chew the top of her pen.
The bell rang for break and it propelled the twins into action, as soon as they left the stuffy classroom they cornered the helpless girl in the hallway. "Haruhi are you alright?" Kaoru asked. "You weren't even paying any attention in class," Hikaru stated afterward. Kaoru elbowed his brother in the ribs lightly, if he was that blunt about it she would surely say nothing. Haruhi bit her lip, she would have to think carefully before she answered. Getting it off her chest would be great, but it really wasn't that simple. Nothing was ever that simple. On one hand, she could tell them that she thought a man was stalking her last night, but that would result in several of their families' private investigators and police forces after something (or someone) that might not even exist, the silhouette had vanished so fast that it may as well have been a figment of her imagination.
Even if she decided to tell them anyway, there was a chance that it was 'him'. If she was right about who it was there would be no reason for them to know. It would put their family secret under threat. That was something she would avoid at all costs. "Earth to Haruhi!" they chorused and began waving their hands in front of her face. Haruhi opened her mouth to respond, but she was abruptly cut off.
"Haru-chan!" Honey giggled in delight, bounding toward her in an attempt to glomp her, instinctively she stepped to the side and he almost fell flat on his face. It was lucky that the blonde had sharp reflexes, he managed to catch himself at the last moment.
As usual Mori was just one step behind him, but in contrast to his cousin he silently joined the circle of Host Club members forming in the hallway. Immediately tears began to form in the corners of Honey's eyes and he looked up at her with the best puppy dog face he could muster. "Why don't you like my hugs?" It was a tactic truly hard to refuse, but nonetheless she had to. Even if it made her seem somewhat heartless. It was just another reason to hate her family curse. "Never mind that! We want to know why she's been acting weird all morning," the twins cut in.
"Weird, how so?"
Haruhi's stomach dropped, she knew that voice all too well. When she wasn't plagued by her reoccurring nightmare, this voice was there instead steadily raising her debt. Still, she could not help but look up just to confirm it. Of course her suspicions were correct, the Shadow King had arrived and if that wasn't bad enough it meant that behind him was none other than,
"Haruhi!" Tamaki's voice echoed in the ornate hallway. "Tell Daddy what it is that is troubling you and I promise you I will make it all better." She couldn't help but roll her eyes at his theatrics, how could he not see how creepy that entire sentence was.
"You are not my father Senpai," she replied sharply, ignoring the following tantrum and protests against the statement "-besides I was just distracted by recent things, that's all. Everything is fine."
"Recent things such as?" Kyoya pressed. She resisted the urge to glare at him, could he not just leave it at that.
Haruhi had a lightbulb moment. "My brother asked me to go to his house this weekend and I guess I'm just excited." Sadly the light bulb was cracked, she only realised her mistake the minute the sentence left her mouth. The twins' eyebrows rose in suspicion "You told us you were an only child."
She nervously scratched the back of her head "I did? Sorry, I guess it feels that way sometimes. He's in his late twenties now so I don't see much of him." Tamaki, who had finally calmed down chimed in "Not to worry Haruhi, besides we can visit with you! I can't wait to get to know more of your commoner family." Haruhi's eyes widened in sheer horror. Oh no, no, no, this was not good at all.
"Well, he is not really expecting the company so ..." she trailed off with the realisation that no one was listening. All she could hear was the simultaneous chant of "We're going to Haruhi's brother's house! We're going to Haruhi's brother's house," over and over again.
She slumped her shoulders and hung her head in the hallway, those boys would be the death of her.
