Monday came faster than Dan thought it would. Dan had spent the whole weekend with Phil, which was a blast for both.
Dan and Phil were already in their first period class. They had a few more minutes to spare before class actually started. Chris and PJ were just now walking into the classroom. Chris looked up and rolled his eyes when he saw that Dan and Phil were sitting together and were whispering to each other. PJ looked over at Chris and frowned.
"Will you just please talk to him?" PJ asked quietly.
Chris sighed and shook his head. "Forget about it, PJ," PJ took a deep breath. Chris usually called him 'Peej', never 'PJ'. Chris walked over to his usual seat. PJ groaned and walked over to him and sat down next to him. Dan glanced over at Chris and PJ for a quick second but then he continued talking to Phil. Dan was well aware that he hadn't spoken to Chris since their last little argument. Dan wanted to talk to them but he was still upset about how things went down.
It wasn't until after school when PJ saw Dan again. PJ quickly ran up to him and grabbed him by the arm. Dan gasped.
"Jesus Christ, PJ! Don't do that to me," Dan hissed.
"Sorry…" PJ mumbled. He took a deep breath, "I wanted to catch you before you left."
Dan raised his eyebrows as he stared at him. "I thought that you'd be with Chris or something?" He asked.
"Can we talk?" PJ asked, completely ignoring what he said about Chris.
"I can't. I'm hanging out with Phil today," Dan said, smiling.
PJ rolled his eyes. "You've been hanging out with Phil every day for the past couple of weeks," he snapped.
Dan frowned. "Peej, we have plans. I promised Phil I'd hang out with him today. I'm sorry," he said apologetically.
PJ sighed. "I'm sure he won't mind if you didn't hang out with him for one day. Please. This is important," he begged.
"Fine. Just let me text Phil first at least." PJ nodded. Dan pulled out his phone. PJ stood there for a few seconds and watched as Dan text Phil. Dan finally put his phone away. Dan and PJ started to walk towards PJ's car. "What's so important that you need to talk to me about then?" Dan asked as once they got into PJ's car. PJ turned and then he looked up at Dan. Dan then realized that Chris was nowhere to be seen which wasn't usual because Chris and PJ were always together. They were almost attached to the hip. "Where's Chris, by the way?" PJ immediately looked away from Dan and didn't say anything. Dan frowned when he saw the look on PJ's face and he knew that something was wrong. "PJ? Hey, what's wrong?"
PJ shook his head, trying to fight back the tears. "We got into an argument earlier and he-he broke up with me," he mumbled.
"What the fuck? Why would he do that? Where is he? Because I'm gonna kill him," Dan warned.
"Dan, don't. Don't do anything." PJ said. He looked up at him as his eyes began to water up. "Just don't even try to help your friends. That's what I've learned from all of this."
"Well, what happened between you and Chris? What did you argue about?" Dan asked.
"Can we talk about this at my house?" PJ asked.
Dan nodded. "Of course we can. I'm glad you stopped me today."
"Well thanks for ditching Phil to talk to me," PJ mumbled.
"Hey, come on. Phil may be my friend now but I'm always here if you need someone to talk to," Dan assured him.
"Uh, let's just… let's just get going," PJ said. He took a deep breath.
Dan frowned as he watched him. He did feel bad for PJ and he hated seeing his best friend so upset.
Dan and PJ finally made it to PJ's house. They were now sitting upstairs in PJ's bedroom on his bed. PJ had just explained everything to Dan. He told him about what happened with Chris today and why Chris had broken up with him.
"Are you saying he broke up with you because of me?" Dan asked with shock.
"No. It's not because of you. Please don't think that. I just… Chris was getting annoyed that you were spending so much time with Phil. I don't know why. I mean… you're allowed to have other friends. I… I understand why he would feel annoyed but anyways… I told him that maybe he should talk to you about everything and he completely lashed out on me. He started yelling at me which he never does and just broke down and then he broke up with me. Said he was done." PJ whispered.
"Do you think he really broke up with you? Or maybe he just did it because he was the heat of the moment?" Dan asked.
"I don't know," PJ mumbled. He shrugged his shoulders. "I'm really hurt by some of the things he said to me. I want to talk to him but I'm afraid. I don't know what to say to him. I don't want to make things worse," he said.
"Peej, you need to talk to him. You and Chris are really good with each other. You're best friends and you have been for so damn long," Dan sighed and shook his head, "I'm so sorry I've been ignoring you guys. That was wrong of me to do. I love being with Phil and hanging out with him but you guys are my friends too. I shouldn't have just ignored you guys like that."
PJ smiled. "It's okay. I guess now I understand what you mean when you said you felt left out when you were hanging out with me and Chris. It's just that… we hid for so long and now we don't have to hide and we're just trying to enjoy it while we can."
Dan nodded. "Do you want to call Chris? Maybe invite him over and we can all talk?" He asked.
"Oh… okay," PJ said nervously. He pulled out his phone. He tried to call Chris a couple of times and sent him a few texts but of course, Chris never answered. PJ sighed and sat his phone down. "Nothing," he mumbled.
Dan frowned. "PJ… I'm so sorry," he reached over and pulled PJ into a hug. PJ immediately hugged him back.
"Thanks Dan," PJ whispered as they continued to hug.
"No problem!" Dan said, smiling as he continued to hug PJ.
"I just hate not talking to Chris," PJ mumbled as he pulled away from Dan.
"He'll come around eventually. There's just a lot going on right now. Don't worry too much about it," Dan assured him.
At least PJ could count on Dan when Chris wasn't there for him. PJ had missed hanging out with Dan the past couple of days.
The next day. PJ was walking into school. He still hadn't spoken to Chris since their argument yesterday. He was missing him a lot but thankfully Dan stayed the night with PJ to keep him company and make him feel better which he did. He was glad that he and Dan had talked about everything last night. He just hoped that he would be able to talk to Chris soon because he didn't want to lose Chris as a boyfriend or a friend. He needed Chris in his life.
Dan and Phil were already inside and were waiting in the lobby in the school. They were waiting for the bell to ring. Dan looked over and blinked a few times when he saw PJ. PJ looked lost without Chris. Dan felt bad for him and he wanted to try and make him feel better. Dan glanced over at Phil before he looked back at PJ and bit his lip.
Phil nudged him. "Dan, talk to me," he whispered. Phil already knew what was happening between Dan and Chris and PJ. Dan had told him everything, of course. Plus, Phil knew when something was bothering Dan.
"Peej!" Dan yelled. PJ immediately looked over at him. Dan motioned for him to come over. PJ bit his lip before he finally walked over to him. "Hey. Still haven't talked to Chris?" Dan asked.
PJ shook his head. "No. He's not answering my texts now," he said.
Dan frowned. "I'm sure he'll come around. Just give him a couple days to collect himself and calm down. I think it's what he needs," Dan said. He smiled and gave him a friendly hug. Phil smiled as he watched them.
Dan, Phil and PJ were walking into their first period class. PJ looked around and frowned when he didn't see Chris. Dan looked over at PJ and bit his lip nervously. PJ ignored him though and walked over to his seat. Dan sighed and looked over at Phil. Phil nudged him and then they both walked over to their seats as well. Dan just wished that there was something he could do to help PJ, especially after how he treated him before. PJ didn't deserve any of this.
PJ was thankful when it was finally time to leave school. He was ready to go home.
PJ started to walk away from the school but he stopped when he heard someone call his name. He turned and saw Dan walking towards him; Phil wasn't that far behind him. PJ stopped walking as Dan ran up to him.
"Hey. You left the school pretty fast," Dan said as he walked up to PJ.
PJ shrugged his shoulders. "Sorry, I just really want to get home," he said.
"I was thinking… maybe you could hang out with me and Phil today?" He suggested. Phil walked next to Dan. PJ looked at Phil and then he looked back at Dan. "It might take your mind off of Chris for a while."
"Thanks but no thanks. I wouldn't want to ruin your fun with my problems," PJ mumbled.
"Peej, you shouldn't…" Dan tried to say. PJ shook his head.
"I'll be fine, Dan. Stop worrying about me." PJ warned. He took a deep breath, "now, if you excuse me… I'm going to go home and crawl under the covers and cry myself to sleep." PJ turned around and started walking away.
"Peej!" Dan yelled with shock. He went to run after him but Phil quickly grabbed Dan's arm, stopping him. Dan blinked a few times and looked over at Phil, slightly confused. "Phil, what are you doing?" Dan asked.
"Dan, just let him go. I know you're worried about him but maybe PJ needs to be alone right now," Phil suggested.
"But, he's hurting, Phil. I want to be there for him and make him feel better," Dan said.
"I know you do and I understand that completely, but he can take care of himself," Phil said.
"PJ is my friend. I can't just let him suffer like this," Dan whispered.
"Yes, PJ is hurting right now but maybe he needs to be alone for now. Give him a couple of days to get over everything. He probably doesn't want to be bothered with right now. PJ will be okay though," Phil said calmly.
Dan sighed in defeat. "Fine. Whatever you say," he mumbled.
"Dan…" Phil began to say, frowning as he watched Dan.
"Let's just go," Dan said. He sighed and then he started walking away.
Dan and Phil finally made it back to Phil's house. Dan was excited about filming with Phil for the first time but he was also nervous. He knew that Phil had a lot of subscribers and followers. Dan didn't want them to hate him. He wanted them to like him. He just hoped that he would be likable enough. Dan really did like Phil. Phil was one of his best friends now and Dan would never ever use him for his internet fame. That was the last thing he would do.
"Dan, are you ready? I've got the questions. And there are a lot of them," Phil said.
Dan looked at Phil and smiled. "Yeah, of course I'm ready. I was born ready!" Dan replied. Phil laughed, watching as Dan sit down next to him on the floor. The camera was already set up in front of them. Phil looked over at Dan and bit his lip nervously.
It's been a half an hour since Dan and Phil have been filming with each other and answering questions and there were still plenty of questions that needed to be answered. Dan and Phil were having so much answering the questions they didn't even want to stop. Phil knew that they should stop soon though or else he would have to edit a lot later. He just didn't think that filming with Dan would be so much fun. He was almost excited to edit everything and get it uploaded.
"May I stroke your glabella?" Dan asked, raising his eyebrows, as he read from off the laptop screen.
"What's a glabella?" Phil asked curiously as he looked at Dan.
"Let's find out what a glabella is," Dan said. He sat there a few seconds as he searched glabella on his laptop. "A glabella is the space between your eyebrows and above the nose," he explained.
"Right there?" Phil asked, pointing to where Dan had explained.
Dan looked over at him. "There?" He asked, raising his eyebrows.
"Show them the diagram," Phil said, nodding towards the camera.
Dan turned the laptop and faced it towards the camera. "That's so interesting Phil… I bet they're all so glad they can see the diagram. Okay then, let's move on… what was your first word?" He asked as he looked at Phil.
"Light," Phil answered. "Light!" He said in a squeakier voice.
"You're such a weirdo," Dan said, laughing as he watched Phil.
"Okay, let's end there. I'm going to have a butt load to edit later," Phil suggested.
Dan looked over at him again. "This was the most fun I've ever had…" He began to say. Phil turned and tackled Dan onto the floor. "Oh!" Dan laughed when he landed on the floor. "Phil!" Dan yelled between laughter. Phil smiled as he looked at him. He grabbed Dan's hands and pinned them against the floor. "How the hell did we end up like this?" Dan asked.
Phil laughed. "You weren't paying attention so I took the opportunity to scare you," he said.
"Of course you did," Dan said, rolling his eyes. Dan and Phil stared at each other for a few seconds. Phil bit his lip nervously. He quickly let go of Dan and slid off of him before he did something he would regret later.
Dan took a deep breath as he stared at the ceiling, a little shocked of what just happened.
Part of Dan really wanted Phil to kiss him but the other part of him didn't want Phil to kiss him. He had only been hanging out with Phil for a couple weeks now and even though he was starting to have feelings for Phil, but he knew that it would be better if he waited to say anything to Phil. He definitely didn't want to do anything that would jeopardize his and Phil's friendship. Phil was Dan's only friend, apart from Chris and PJ. Phil was important to Dan.
"Well, that was fun," Dan said as he slowly pushed himself up.
"Thanks for filming with me today," Phil said as he nervously looked over at Dan.
"No need to thank me. It really was fun," Dan said with a smile. "We should do it again."
Phil nodded. "Yeah. As much fun as it was… I'm not looking forward to editing."
