It had been a few days since he had agreed to be Cinderpelts apprentice and he still found himself wishing that he could be a warrior but he knew that it was never going to happen. He was busy sorting herbs when he heard the hesitate pawsteps of someone approaching him. He opened his mouth drawing in the scent of Lostface and he let out a sad sigh. Forcing a smile he turned to face the orange-and-white she-cat his smile fading when he saw the pain that he one eye held. He opened his mouth to ask her what was wrong but before he could she spoke.
"Swiftpaw, you never talk to me anymore. Do you hate me now or something?" the she-cat asked her friend looking sad.
"No, but you know my name is Shatteredheart now," the medicine cat apprentice meowed looking away.
"Then why won't you talk to me, Swiftpaw?" she asked ignoring what he had said about his name.
"Because you should blame me for what happened, and I totally deserve the name that Bluestar gave me, but you don't deserve the name she gave you," he meowed looking back over at her.
"Well, I don't blame you because you didn't force me to come with you and you're wrong you don't deserve the name Bluestar gave you and I refuse to call you such a cruel name," Brightpaw meowed her one green eye blazing.
"But I had the idea to go after the dogs," Shatteredheart pointed out.
"You had every reason to be mad at Bluestar though. You were made into an apprentice way before Cloudtail was and he was given his warrior name before you were," Lostface pointed out.
"It still doesn't excuse what I did, if it weren't for me you wouldn't have gotten hurt," he meowed letting his gaze drift over to the injured side of her face and his eyes filled with sadness. He still loved Lostface or Brightpaw as he still liked to call her, and it hurt him to think that it was his fault that she had ended up hurt.
"I made the decision to go with you, and I could've been the one who came up with the idea to go after the dogs. The point is that neither of us knew what we were getting into because neither of even knew of the dogs," Lostface meowed the tip of her tail twitching back and forth.
"Why don't you blame me? Even Cloudtail blame me and I bet all our old den mates blame me as well," Shatteredheart meowed sadly.
"That tom, he is the only one who blames me and he only blames me because he has a crush on you but I could never feel the same about someone so conceited," she hissed lashing her tail back and forth.
"Oh, he isn't causing trouble for you is he? Cinderpelt told me that you two were no longer talking," he meowed his gaze fixed on his friend.
"No, he isn't causing me trouble and he tries talking to me every day but I ignore him. Unless he apologize about all the bad things he has said about you then I'm not talking to him," she meowed looking annoyed.
"What has he been saying about me?" he asked curiously wondering what the younger tom could be saying about him.
"He says that you shouldn't have survived that the dogs should have killed you," she meowed looking down at the ground.
"Maybe he's right," Shatteredheart meowed looking away.
"No, he's wrong. I don't know if I would even want to go on living if you died," Lostface meowed jerking her head up and stared at him with horror in her eye.
He frowned but he didn't say anything else about how he agreed with Cloudtail. "Anyway how is Longtail?" he asked deciding to change the subject so that his friend wouldn't be so mad.
"Longtail is doing fine. He has wanted so bad to visit you to make sure you're okay but he has been to busy," she meowed giving her friend a smile.
"That's good, I hope he can get another apprentice soon," he meowed with a sigh.
"You miss training don't you?" Lostface asked.
"Becoming a medicine cat won't be so bad but it was always my dream to become a warrior," Shatteredheart meowed giving her a smile.
"Yeah, at least you'll be helping your clan," she meowed giving him a smile.
"Yeah, I heard Cinderpelt saying that the half moon was going to be here in a few days and that I'll be going to my first medicine cat meeting," he meowed flicking his ears back and forth.
"That's great," she told him letting out a purr.
He nodded smiling and he was about to answer her when he noticed Cloudtail come into camp with an unconscious cat that he didn't even know. He could see that the cat was injured pretty badly but probably wouldn't get any scars. He knew that the shock must show on his face because Lostface turned away from him to see what he was staring at.
Lostface frowned when she saw her friend looking shocked and she turned away to see Cloudtail entering camp with an unknown cat who was unconscious. She let out a sigh noticing that the cat was a pretty white she-cat with silver spots through out her fur but she knew someone had to go up to Cloudtail to ask him who the cat was but she didn't want to ask him herself because of all the things he had said about Shatteredheart.
Shatteredheart noticed that Lostface didn't seem to want to speak to Cloudtail so he went over to the tom. "Cloudtail who is this?" he asked the warrior with a sigh.
Cloudtail gave Shatteredheart a withering glare before speaking. "I don't know I just found her unconscious in the territory and knew that I couldn't leave her," he growled.
