Chapter 3:

UNEXPECTED FLOW

Kallen sighed softly.

'this will be a little hard.' She thought as she clenched her chest. After that short conversation, the day ended with Kallen and Lelouch not talking with each other, to be precise, she avoided him.

'I'm not prepared for this' She cried out to herself.

As the bell rang signaling the end of the day, she hurriedly went to the school's rooftop. Exhaling loudly, she stares at the sky. 'You're right CC… it's hard'

'Matters of the heart is something I don't like to talk to anyone about"

Surprised by CC's sudden answer, Kallen turn around, expecting to see the witch.

"Right, you're talking through my mind." Kallen said as CC chuckled lightly.

"precisely, so don't bother anticipating a sudden attack."

Kallen sighed. "So, why are you talking to me now CC?"

"Do you meet him?" Silenced answered her and thus concluded the only answer as to why her new contractor became silent. "How is it?"

"Its good…"

"and?" another minutes of silence answered her. "Oh! Why bother! You didn't have the chance to talk to him?"

"Shut up! I talked to him alright!..." Kallen bowed her head. "I introduced myself…"

"and?"

…

"OH!KALLEN!" Laughter suddenly resounded in her head.

"Shut up witch! Its not like I have anything to talk to him about!"

"Its not like you can't talk to him about something not related to rebellion… Just answer me honestly… Why avoid him?"

"I didn't avoid him!" Kallen stiffened as CC just laughed.

"Why?" CC asked again.

"I don't know" Kallen answered.

CC sighed loudly. "I'll talk to you later… I lost interest talking to you. Lying doesn't do you any good.."

Silenced follows as the witch leave Kallen's mind.

Minutes later,Kallen mumbled silently as she gazed at the sky. "I avoided him because… It hurts. Seeing him again hurts"

That night, the resistance group have a mission, to infiltrate the armory of a britannian noble and get some weapons. Kallen decided to join operation. This is one of the previous mission she is not allowed to join in the previous timeline.

She is appointed as the command unit for the decoys to make way for the group who will break into the warehouse.

"Ohgi didn't let me join this operation before… he may acknowledge my piloting skills much earlier than the previous timeline.." Kallen thought as she prepares her glasgow unit they acquire during one of their previous operations.

Kallen led as she maneuvered her Glasgow towards the front gate of the said warehouse, making it visible by the knightmare frames that guarding the area. She quickly counted the number of the guards as she readied her machine to start the operation.

"Just eight guards… I can handle all of them myself really…" She sighed then started her machine and went forward. 'I miss my GUren'

As the guards spotted Kallen, they quickly tailed her Glasgow as she purposely make them follow her away from the warehouse, and into the trap set by her comrades. giving time for Ohgi and the others to accomplished their mission. She led them towards a small open area surrounded by some trees where the rest of the decoy units hide as they wait for Kallen's signal to commence the attack.

Thinknig that they successfully cornered Kallen's glasgow, the guards readied their guns to assault her unit, Kallen went on action as she quickly stabbed the knightmare frame infront of her. She dodged the attack of the second knightmare and kicked its feet and stabbed the pilot's cockpit. She fires the signal, indicating the start of their counterattack giving the remaining units the chance to fight the guards.

Kallen brought her knightmare back to the warehouse. Her eyes widen as she saw her comrades, the infiltration unit, trying to escape a Sutherland which is attacking them.

She then quickly shielded the incoming barrage of bullets as the Sutherland fires straight at her comrades.

"Oh no you're not gonna kill anyone of us!"

Ohgi never tell her the story why many members of the resistance group died during this operation.

'Its like they're expecting us …'

Kallen do her best to engage the remaining enemy units as she shielded her comrades. Luckily for her, the decoy units decided to follow her track and helped save their remaining allies. Fearing that they will soon be outnumbered, Kallen call the signal for retreat.

Back in their hideout, an uncomfortable silence surrounded the surviving members.

Still shocked, Ohgi cleared his throat trying to disperse the tense atmosphere.

"So… they plan it all along…" Ohgi started as he scan his members. As their leader, Ohgi felt that he is responsible to what happened to their operation.

"Now what?" Tamaki asked glaring at Ohgi. "You said this will be an easy operation!" the man shouted.

"Yes… I know Tamaki… Its my fault. I became hasty… I led all of you in a trap.." Ohgi bowed his head "I'm sorry"

"YOUR SORRY WILL NOT BRING THOSE WHO DIED BACK!" Sugiyama shouted, clenching his hands.

"ITS NOT LIKE YOU'RE NOT TO BLAME TAMAKI! You scouted the area!" Inoue added.

"They're not there when I scouted the area!" Tamaki defended himself.

Soon, everyone started voicing their own opinion putting someone as responsible to what happened.

Kallen just listened to the group in a corner. Irritated by their behaviour, she sighed and walked towards the group.

"SHUT UP!" Kallen's voiced resounded at their hideout. "Stop blaming someone! We fucked up! That's it!"

"Just keep your mouth shut missy! Just because Naoto's your brother doesn't mean you can talk like that with us!" Sugiyama said to her.

Kallen glared as the said man unable to handle her anger. "What's wrong with all of you? We all messed this operation!" she shouted. Glaring pointedly at Sugiyama who stared back at her wide eye.

Everyone remained quiet as some of the female members started crying. Kallen stared at the group sighing. "We must regroup…" she just tell quietly.

"What the…" she heard Sugiyama whispered as she looked at him.

Sugiyama stared at her and asked her alarmingly. "The hell's happening here?"

"What?" Kallen asked.

"Why are we back in our old hideout? Where's that demon emperor? Did he used that power on us again?" Confused, Sugiyama whispered hurriedly.

Kallen stared at him wide eyed. 'no way…'

"Sugiyama tell me… Who is Lelouch?" Kallen quietly asked.

"What kind of question is that Kallen? He's a demon! He deceived us. He used us!" Sugiyama said,.

"What the hell are you talking about Sugiyama?" Ohgi asked.

"Ohgi don't you remember-" Sugiyama is abut to answer when Kallen interrupted him.

"Sugiyama is just telling me about how those britannians act like demons." Kallen answered as she seized Sugiyama's arm.

"Don't tell them." She whispered.

"What?"

"I'll tell you later."

Kallen let go of his hand.

'"What's happening here? Will all the people remember? They will kill Lelouch if they remember!' Kallen clenched her hands as she walked out of their hideout.

"Kallen wait!" Sugiyama shouted, following her.

Kallen turned to him. "Sugiyama…"

"You also know didn't you? Sugiyama glared at her. "Why didn't you tell anything!"

"Just shut up! I am just as confused as you are!"

Sugiyama looked at her then grab her by the shoulder. "If its like this then we can stop that demon from appearing! We can kill him off right now! He's a student in your school right? Lets go and end that demon before he makes his appearance!"

"No. You will not do anything to him" Kallen answered.

Rain started falling as Sugiyama stared at Kallen. He let go of her shoulder and laugh silently "His power still affecting you? Or maybe you loved that demon that's why you can't kill him? Whatever! Then, I'll do it myself!"

Sugiyama run off leaving a shocked Kallen.

'No!' Snapping out of her thought,Kallen followed Sugiyama running towards Ashford Academy.

'CC this is the time I need you!' Kallen shouted inside her mind but no one answered her call. Cursing, Kallen continue running as she saw Sugiyama, hiding behind a tree, readying his pistol and looking towards the school's gate waiting for his prey.

"I will end you right now Lelouch vi Britannia…" Sugiyama silently said to himself.

Kallen rush towards him, readying her own gun.

"Drop your gun." She said pointing his pistol in his head.

Sugiyama turned to her pointing the gun at her face "You're delusional Kallen! We must end him now! Or are you really under his power?" Making his own conclusion, he nodded "I see… then Kallen… I must end your life as well. You're dangerous." Sugiyama said.

In a blink of an eye, a loud gunshot can be heard. Staring solemnly at Sugiyama's fallen body, Kallen hide her pistol. "I'm sorry…" and then run off as students started coming out of the school looking for the source of the sound.

Alone in her room, Kallen relentlessly tried contacting CC. Hours went by before a familiar voice of resounded in her mind.

"Hey"

"Don't hey me! I'm trying to contact you! Where the hell are you!?"

"Oh sorry, I'm asleep earlier."

"asleep? I thought you're sleeping this whole time…"

"Its different Kallen. You may find it out later. So why are you contacting me?"

"It's bad CC! Sugiyama just remembered everything… Is it only the beginning? How am I gonna save Lelouch if everyone will remember! They will kill him on the spot if they see him! They will not believe me if I explain everything! They will think I'm under his geass" Kallen said, panicking

"Will you calm down… What happened? Tell me"

Kallen tell CC all that happened. From their operation up to the point of killing Sugiyama.

"So you shoot him."

"I have no choice…"

"You're not saddened by it?"

"I'm used to it… losing a comrade that is… What now CC?"

CC sighed. "I planned on explaining it to you personally, I mean face to face, but as the situation requires I must explain it now. It's your geass Kallen. Just as you tell me earlier, you stare at him. You just unknowingly activated your geass and unluckily you used it on him."

"Wha…"

"listen, I'm not this giving towards my previous contractor… I love seeing them deducing what they're geass power is like. But I will make you an exception... You're wish is to save Lelouch so the collective consciousness allows you to travel back in time and give you a geass that can helped you attain you're wish. Your geass can revive the memories from the previous timeline. You can awaken their memories, they will remember everything up to the point when you first activated your geass."

"What…"

"Simple, you can bring someone back in time…"

"then… I can used it on Lelouch? "

"I'm against that idea. You know how he is."

Kallen nodded.

"Hey CC, does that mean I can travel back again?"

"I'm sorry queen, It's a one time ticket. To accomplish your wish, the C's world have to bring you back in time. But that doesn't mean you can go back again."

"I can't understand CC… "

"I certainly expected you will not understand it"

"Hey!"

"What you just have to understand is that you must control your emotions. That is the trigger of your geass. Remember that once you revive the memories of someone, there's no turning back. Just like with what happened earlier."

"hmmm"

"Kallen, I'll helped you when I can okay…We will save your King.."

"Why? … why do this CC?"

"I owed him so much to abandon a chance to save him."

"CC…"

"If that's all I'll go back to my slumber…"

Kallen opened her eyes as she stared at the ceiling."Always leaving in the middle of our conversation... you're really a witch CC"

"Geass huh…" Kallen silently muttered.

Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

For the next few days, Kallen pretended going to school as to not worry her parents. She skipped school going instead to their base and acting like she mourn Sugiyama's death. They think it's a misunderstanding between him and a britannian who suddenly shot him in the head. After some days, they started 'rebuilding' their group.

Because Ohgi decided that they will lay low for a while, Kallen in turn was forced to go back to Ashford. She gave her false medical clearance to her adviser then went towards the classroom.

As she entered, some britannian girls surrounded her asking about her absence. She politely and meekly answered them using her façade of a frail sickly girl. The sympathy, which Kallen hated, was written in their faces as they asked about her condition. Kallen endured answering their question, and as she reach her limit, she act like she needs to have a breather, they leave her alone after that.

Looking around her, she noticed that Lelouch and Rivalz are talking just like how they are in the previous timeline. She then saw a girl with orange hair approached the two.

'Shirley' She bowed her head as she remembered what happened to the girl.

Rivalz smiled widely and Lelouch just smiled back at Shirley as she joined their conversation.

'They coming along nicely' She thought. A small smile crept on her face. 'I'm not belong there' Her smile turned into a sad one as she continue gazing at them longing to be a part of their circle again. She then turned in front. 'I must not get too emotional'

Hours passed, the chime signaling the school's end rang throughout the academy. Everyone hurriedly leave the classroom. Kallen smiled at that putting her head in her desk, as she closed her eyes.

Opening her eyes, she looked at her surroundings. "I must have slept." She silently muttered.

Sighing, she approached the nearest window, looking out at the sky. She smiled noting the setting sun. As she continue gazing at the sky, the door suddenly opened.

"Oh… I didn't know someone was still here" a boy said as the light illuminate the person.

"Lelouch right?" Kallen softly asked 'Yeah pretend that you didn't know him'

Kallen received a small smile and a nod as an answer. Lelouch silently strode towards his desk, getting a notebook inside it. "I forgot this." He said. Then he looked at her with a questioning eyes. "not to be rude but why are you still here Kallen?"

Slightly elated that at least he remembered her name, she gave him a small smile. "I must have fallen asleep. I just wake up a while ago."

"I see." Lelouch then walked towards the door. As he opened it wider he turns to Kallen. "Let's go."

Kallen simply nodded, she picked up her bag and followed Lelouch.

"You know, you must not sleep just anywhere especially with your health condition." Lelouch started as they walked in the corridor.

Kallen just bowed her head maintaining her sickly appearance. "I'm sorry. "

"nothing to apologize about." Lelouch answered. "Next time, be sure that someone's watching over you "

Kallen laughed lightly. "Then, you have to take care of that the next time" Kallen said looking at his violet eyes as they continue walking towards the gate of Ashford Academy.

"Why me?" confusion is written on Lelouch's face.

"You're the one who suggested it." Kallen said as they neared the school entrance. Kallen just answered him naturally as how she answered Lelouch in the past timeline.

Lelouch softly chuckled. He then stopped walking. "Bye"

Kallen tilted her head. Lelouch realizing the question before Kallen asked him, he answered. "I live here inside the academy."

"Oh I see" Kallen said as she turned towards him. 'I know Lelouch… but I must act like I didn't…"

"Thanks." Kallen bowed. "See you..." she mumbled softly as she hurriedly walked out of the academy.

Left standing in front of the school, Lelouch chuckled softly.

Unknown to the two, a figure was watching them from the rooftop. The said person grinned mischievously.

I appreciate all the feedback. First, you have a point about Lulu didn't have the strength to looked at everyone at his final moments… but I just had base the idea (well a friend just told me) that at deathbed you will experience the longest moments of your life.

As for CC, I didn't wrote the part where she is in the church because she is in the parade in this story, though not established. This part is already different form the anime because the story will not start if not for CC's intervention.

Oh and those line cut… well I just wrote how I imagine the scene.. sorry if you find it bothersome..

and for Milly's name thanks for mentioning it… I always mixed the name 'MILLY with how my friend's name was written 'MILLAY'
