Enter Demon Sword Crona – Stein's New Experiment?
Part 2
Annnnd Continue….
"Why are we sharing a hotel room with Spirit? If he spies on me taking a shower, I'm going to maim him."
Usagi complained as she unpacked her suitcase on a large bed in the middle of her temporary home. She pouted between yawns. Opening the large armoire, the elder meister rolled his eyes at his princess's whining. He was tired and ready for the night to be over with. Maka and Soul seemed to be fine so far. Neither Usagi nor Stein felt anything out of the ordinary, but they knew better than to assume.
The mad scientist was worried about the one star meister and her weapon, but the blonde in front of him was still occupying the lion's share of his mind. He needed to mask her soul as quickly as possible. If she were to be sensed by a powerful witch, everyone around her would be put in danger. Her soul wavelength was unmistakable. Of course, he had other motives beyond protecting her, but he had his priorities in order.
"Stop whining demon. It's only temporary, and I'm sure he isn't stupid enough to spy while I'm here. Now, are you ready? We need to get this done, so we can find Maka and Soul."
"I guess I'm ready, but can we make it quick? I'm hungry!"
Stein sighed. She was too much like her father. The blonde Goku had literally just eaten, and was ready for another round of stuffing her face. The scientist sat on the edge of the king-sized bed, and beckoned the princess to him with his finger.
"Just come here demon. Like I said, it works like chain resonance, but with a deeper bond. We can't afford not to do it."
The princess simply yawned and nodded as she was gently pulled into his lap. She wrapped her arms around his neck and rested her head on his shoulder.
"I don't know how long we will be linked, but be nice to me please? I take enough abuse in saiyan fight club."
"Saiyan fight club? Did you really name training?"
"Yeah, and just answer my question! Be nice OK?"
"No promises."
"Ugh…you're impossible. Why can't humans do this?"
"Like I said, it resembles a bond between Saiyans and Lunarians. Humans wouldn't be affected by it the way we are."
"Soul Protect seems easier."
"No Usa. You'll use too much energy and what if you need the crystal? I would be able to keep it from overwhelming you."
The princess sighed. She couldn't deny her curiosity, even if being bonded to the meister seemed daunting. She had wanted to learn to use some of his techniques better, especially Soul purge. The blonde could never get Twin Spears down without using too much of her wavelength at once. The last time she used it, Goten was out for a few hours and she got an ear full from Luna about restraint.
Stein thought it was funny and gave her a pat on the head. Maybe he could help her control it while they were linked. Usagi didn't want her guardian invading her thoughts, but she still wanted to trust him. It had been a long time since she had to really use the crystal. Purifying Hotaru had been the last time, and it drained all of her energy. The Demon Sword must have been strong for everyone to be worried about her soul wavelength and the crystal. Defeated once again, Usagi looked up at her guardian who was patiently waiting for her cooperation.
"Fine, you win again. What are we supposed to do about the full moon?"
Pulling the princess close, the meister rested his chin on her shoulder.
"We'll have to cross that bridge when we get to it. We're both going to be a little high for a moment initially. There will be enough time to adjust to each other while we are looking for Maka and Soul. There could be side effects, so we will have to be careful."
"What kind of side effects? Chain resonance doesn't have side effects."
The princess shifted in Stein's lap and looked up at him.
"Well, remember, this is more like a bond than anything. I may affect your mood and vice versa. Don't be surprised if you or I become territorial for a while. The only other thing I can think of would be separation anxiety. You never like being far from me as it is demon. You'll have to at least attempt to control your jealousy."
The elder half-blood smiled, obviously trying to lighten the mood by teasing. The princess blushed and nodded. She hated that he was right, again. Usagi was usually most comfortable if she knew her guardian was close by. It wasn't that she was afraid of being alone, but he was the only one who could really comfort her if something went wrong. The only other person who had that power was Black Star, and he didn't remember who she really was. The princess knew she could be clingy and suddenly felt a little bad for not allowing him to have time to himself. Being bound to his soul would be her punishment.
The more she thought about it, the more she felt comfortable with the idea of being bound to her beloved guardian. She could just bug him through their link and he could comfort her from further away. Usagi hoped she wouldn't become territorial over him because she was already protective. He had always been the same with her and she smiled, happy that he loved her so much.
Part of her wanted to probe his thoughts just for reassurance that he didn't resent her for taking over his life. She absentmindedly wrapped her arms around his neck again, and smiled when he silently held her closer. As always, he must have sensed her apprehension and knew what she needed. Her only real worry now was the full moon. The sexual tension between them had grown thicker with each passing day, and she wasn't sure how her body would handle any added intensity. She had almost given herself to him earlier that day, and didn't know how much fight she had left.
"Fine. Let's just do this before I lose my nerve. Is this going to hurt?"
"Not really. Normal resonance releases a mix of adrenalin and dopamine. With a deeper bond, we may feel a brief euphoria and become a little disoriented. I could explain it scientifically, but that would take a minute."
The princess rolled her eyes.
"What? No dirty talk before you metaphorically screw my brain? Some mate you are."
Stein returned her eye roll, while laughing.
"Just listen, demon. Both our brains are about to be in temporary overload. In other words, enjoy the trip and don't blow anything up."
"Maybe I should be happy that I'm not marrying a Saiyan. I feel sorry for your future wife."
The scientist chuckled.
"You're my wife for the next week. Try not to beat yourself up too much brat."
"Fine, but I'm not murdering anyone for you. Control your inner Spirit Albarn. I won't cheat if you won't."
The princess playfully stuck her tongue out. She was trying to take as much tension off of the moment as possible. While she trusted the elder meister, Usagi still had her reservations about spending a week bound to her beloved guardian. She knew he would never put her in any physical danger, but neither could deny the recent rise in sexual attraction. The blonde wasn't sure how she would react to anyone of the opposite sex being around her temporary mate.
He had been right about her already being incredibly protective. He never spent time with any other women unless it was a colleague. He loved her and she knew her jealously was unwarranted. They weren't in a relationship, but she always felt odd when he interacted with the opposite sex. She even became jealous when Stein spent time in Bulma's lab regardless of the circumstances. The fact that they had a sexual relationship at any point in time somehow made the princess uncomfortable. The princess needed the mad scientist's attention more so than she'd like to admit.
It was hard to believe that he ever seemed heartless to anyone. Sure, he was cold at times, but so was Vegeta, and she knew the Saiyan prince cared about her. He wouldn't bother training her if he didn't. She had been told all of her life how cold her guardian had been before she physically re-entered the universe. Apparently, her existence kept him grounded and attached to this world. The truth was, she felt like she needed him far more than the reverse. At this point, she needed him more than she needed her beloved Shinigami. In some twisted way, she knew she belonged to him, and vice versa. Part of her had known it for a while and had been rather content with the realization.
Despite the recent sexual tension, her view of the meister hadn't changed. The princess would do anything for him and nothing made her feel better than a hug and a smile from the elder half-blood. Arguments however, were of course always far more entertaining. If she were being completely honest, she craved his approval more than anyone in her life. While she thought the world of her actual father, her universe revolved around the man holding her. She wondered how it would be seeking that same attention from her pseudo big brother and Shinigami as she had on the moon.
Not wanting to dwell, the princess looked up into the eyes of the man she was about to share a soul with for the next week. He had pulled them to the head of the bed, and was resting against the headboard. He had an arm firmly wrapped around her waist, and his free hand turning the screw in his head. Stein looked down smiling before wrapping his other arm around her shoulders, pulling her close. He silently rested his chin on her head.
The princess wiggled into a momentary freedom only to turn around and sit straddling his lap. A light blush spread across her cheeks when he smiled and cupped her chin. Before she knew It, she had been caught in what seemed like the millionth kiss with him that day. She felt his satisfaction when her lips immediately responded to him. The princess sat up on her knees bringing herself to eye level with the elder meister. She wrapped her arms around his neck and pressed herself against him earning a quiet moan from the scientist.
Stein allowed his hands to travel to her hips and realized that she was still wearing his pants and her black sports bra. He didn't have to tug hard for the already loose garment to fall below her hips. The princess tilted her head back moaning breathlessly when his lips began a gentle assault on her neck and shoulder. She cradled his head to her and giggled when she felt his tail curling around her own.
Usagi suddenly found herself under her beloved guardian blushing as his eyes scanned her body. She slid her hands up his shirt and blushed deeper when he quickly removed it. He raised a brow, and smirked when he caught her admiring his body as she traced the stitched scars on his stomach. She bit her lip and arched her back as his fingertips trailed down the middle of her chest and circled around her belly button. He teased her with his silver tail squeezing and caressing her blonde one. Capturing her lips again he was surprised when he felt her nails gently dig into his back. He reluctantly broke the kiss to look into her hazy blue eyes before speaking.
"Usa, Bond Resonance…" The princess swallowed, not breaking eye contact before obediently repeating his words.
"Bond Resonance."
Usagi cried out immediately feeling her entire body seize up. She closed her eyes and held her head in her hands. Stein quickly kissed her trying to muffle her cries from Spirit's ears. The scientist had been correct about what would happen, but underestimated the intensity. He moaned feeling overwhelmingly euphoric as the princess beneath him dug her nails into his back keeping him close. Even though he knew that it would happen, the scientist wasn't fully prepared for the sudden surge of mental and physical chaos. He thought he would lose his mind when he heard the princess calling him loudly in his head.
The pain of her sharp nails quickly turned into pleasure as he attempted to center his thoughts. He broke the kiss and closed his eyes tightly in a futile attempt to ground himself. Both parties were breathing heavily and his vision was blurry. The scientist was barely able to pin her arms to the bed as she wrapped her legs around his waist. He knew the princess felt as though she was losing her mind in a sea of blind lust and adrenaline just as he was. As his line of vision finally cleared he looked down to see the princess's pupils heavily dilated. He finally caught his own breath, but struggled to keep his composure while again hearing Usagi's voice.
"Stein! I can't take it. Please, just make it stop!"
The princess begged breathlessly for release from the storm surging through her. Stein managed to gain enough control over himself to think of a way to ebb the princess's mental torment. He could barely discern her vocal pleading from the swarm of her thoughts invading his mind. While he captured her lips in a passionate kiss, he tried to soothe her with his now calmer heartbeat. He felt as though his arms were physically wrapped around the princess's soul. Though her thoughts were chaotic, her soul wavelength still managed to soothe him. Not breaking the kiss, Stein projected his heartbeat into the space of her mind. He separated their lips when he heard her moans become quiet and her writhing began to slow down. Looking into her foggy eyes, he attempted to test their new connection.
"Usa, can you hear me? Calm down demon. It's starting to pass. I feel it too."
Usagi wrapped her arms around his neck and buried her head in his shoulder, trembling. The scientist could feel her thoughts beginning to slow down and her mind become more clear. He lay on his side and wrapped his tail around her waist making sure to keep her as close as possible. His body was still aching and he just needed to feel her next to him. He gently rubbed her back hearing her whimper occasionally until he finally got an answer.
"Yes, I can hear you perfectly. I'm still aching, but it's better. So, this is bond resonance? It's kind of intense."
"Yeah, I guess it was a little hard to handle."
"Your mind. It sounds like static noise. It's faint, but it's there. Is this normal?"
"Yes. It's been that way for a long time. It's usually louder, but I can ignore it. The screw in my head usually helps, but it seems quieter now that you are here."
Usagi smiled at the fact that she was helping him in any way, but was a little sad that he dealt with the mental noise. Suddenly, she was able to see him in her mind's eye. He was sitting with his legs crossed in the darkness under a large tree. It looked a lot like the tree that resided in her father's back yard. She quickly developed a theory and decided to test it. She envisioned brighter surroundings in her mind causing them to appear before her.
Looking around briefly, Usagi was satisfied with the scene and sat down beside the scientist who seemed to be content in the new surroundings. The princess studied his features and began to wonder if she could help quiet his mind more. The scientist frowned when he felt the princess begin to search his thoughts only to stop immediately. He looked down and smiled as they made eye contact and the princess blushed. She smiled and tilted her head as he reached out to cup her cheek in his hand.
"Usa, it's alright. We're stuck together for a while, so feel free to roam around. We need to be as in sync as possible for this to work. You'll get used to the noise."
"I don't want to pry. It's rude."
"Fine, but I'm not letting you up until you do."
"What if it's uncomfortable?"
"Do I have to play with you again to make you feel better about it?"
The scientist smirked. He didn't have to do much probing to know that she had just briefly entertained the idea. She was blushing and it only spread when she involuntarily saw an image of him between her thighs.
"What did I say about being nice, Stein?"
"I said no promises. Besides, you're cute when you're frustrated."
His smile quickly faded when he felt her attempt to push him out of her thoughts. He let out a low growl and positioned himself on top of her. Quickly leaning down, he was satisfied when she moaned as he began nibbling neck. He did the same to her earlobe before whispering to her.
"Don't block me, Usa. I need you right now."
The princess nodded and blushed, but remain quiet. Her heart began to race when they once again, made eye contact. She couldn't hide her pleasure at the look he in his eyes. A shiver ran down her spine when she felt him pressing his arousal into her. She gasped, and obeyed his silent command for her body to relax. The second shiver seemed to radiate through her lower half causing her to whimper loudly. Unable to hide her own arousal, Usagi began rhythmically raising her hips into him and moaned at the bass in his voice as he called her name. She bit her lip, but responded as he beckoned her to look him in the eye. He relayed his next command in her thoughts and her blush grew deeper as she answered.
"I need you too…more than anything."
It was the scientist's turn to blush as he wasn't expecting the last part. He smiled and reluctantly separated himself from the princess.
"I'm glad. We should stop, demon. I don't want to go too far right now, and we need to find Maka and Soul. I'm sure Spirit is worried."
He chuckled at her frustration. She had cursed Spirit in her mind and blushed again realizing that he heard her loud and clear.
"You're right. I'm worried about them too."
"Good girl. I promise I'll make it better if you need me later."
Looking down, Stein rolled his eyes. He was suddenly annoyed.
"Spongebob panties? You do know you're an adult, right?"
"You suddenly care about what I'm wearing? Spongebob is for everyone!"
The meister finally spoke aloud causing the princess to giggle. They both shivered at the joint feeling of loneliness as their bodies fully separated. Stein sat up leaning against the headboard again, pulling the princess into his lap.
"He really isn't, Usa."
"Again. Why do you care? Didn't stop you earlier."
"I didn't notice earlier and I don't care, but you could at least try to dress like a woman."
"Gee, that show of affection was short lived."
The meister laughed loudly before turning his attention to the knock on the bedroom door.
"Are you two ready yet? We need to get going!"
Usagi stretched, finally standing and walked over to open the door. She stumbled and struggled to maintain balance. She was still slightly dizzy from the bond formation, but gave a bright smile to the Death Scythe.
"We're almost ready Spirit. I just need to get dressed. Stein's pants are too big for me."
The princess absentmindedly adjusted the waistline of the large grey pants. She raised a brow when she suddenly noticed that Spirit had hearts in his eyes. She immediately began backing away from the doorway. Looking back, the Usagi noticed that Stein had the same curious look on his face.
"Uhh Spirit? Is something wrong?"
The small blonde screamed as she was nearly tackled to the ground with a hug.
"Spirit what the hell is wrong with you?!"
Usagi struggled to loosen his grip.
"Oh Usagi! My Maka used to wear Spongebob panties just like those! She was so adorable! You two have so much in common!"
The princess continued to struggle annoyed that the Death Scythe couldn't control himself. His arms were wrapped around her leg and she growled at her failed attempt to pull up her pants. She froze when she heard a sniffle below her. Looking down she saw that the hearts in Spirits eyes were quickly replaced by tears. She prepared herself mentally for the sobbing fool's lamentations about his ex-wife and estranged daughter.
"It was her favorite show. We watched it together all of the time. She used to imitate Patrick when she wanted food you know? Oh princess, how can I make her love me again?! My ex-wife wouldn't even let me pay child support! Ever since my Maka turned 18, she doesn't speak to me at all!"
The princess groaned in frustration as she realized that she was more of a man that Spirit would ever be. She sighed and attempted to seem emotionally available to help. Still uncomfortable with his proximity, Usagi began gently patting the forlorn man's head.
"Spirit, you cheated. When you broke her mother's heart, you broke Maka's. You can't go through life not expecting consequences for your actions. That being said, you can probably redeem yourself with Maka if you really try."
She heard another sniffle and looked down.
"Do you really think I can make her love me again?"
Usagi rolled her eyes and froze feeling Stein in her head. She heard a low growl and looked back. The meister was standing up, looking angrily at the sobbing mess at her feet. Realizing that it was one of the side effects she was warned about, the princess used her soul wavelength to attempt calming the scientist. She tried to speed up her pep talk while effectively prying Spirit off of her. If Stein made his way over, it might not end well for the Death Scythe. They already had a sordid history, and Spirit was terrified of the mad scientist most of the time.
"Yes Spirit. If you can show her you've changed, she may at least respect you. You should probably get up now. We need to go just in case something bad happens."
Just when she thought she was free, the sobbing man quickly stood taking her hands into his own. The hearts in his eyes had returned, and the princess became convinced that the scythe was a very unstable human being. His next statement earned a louder growl from the meister behind her. She sighed coming to the conclusion that Spirit obviously had a death wish. She had to debate whether or not he was worth saving from Stein's wrath.
"Oh princess! You'd make a wonderful wife. Marry me and let me be your king!"
Usagi's heart almost stopped. She paused almost unable to look behind her. All she felt was the surge of fury radiating off of her beloved guardian.
"…Fuck. Spirit. You might want to run."
"Huh?"
Usagi was barely able to get the last part of the sentence out before the Death Scythe was thrown across the room. She feared for his life when she heard his high pitched scream as he scrambled to his feet. He was quickly forced against up the wall as the angry meister grabbed him by the throat. The princess ran over to the duo and placed her hand on the scientist's shoulder attempting to calm him.
"Stein stop it! Put him down!"
Her words fell on deaf ears as the scientist pulled a black marker out of his pocket and grinned. Removing the top with his teeth, Stein drew an X on both sides of Spirit's forehead.
"I suppose if I drill here, the lobotomy would be quick. That's no fun though."
The death scythe screamed again and Usagi sighed. She knew part of him was serious, but the other part was just enjoying the fear in Spirit's eyes.
"Stop screaming already. Or don't. I can just remove your vocal chords. It's an easy process really. If I cut too deep, you may bleed out. Hey! I can test my theory on how to stop the bleeding before you die!"
Spirit wiggled violently attempting to pry the scientist's hand from his throat. He struggled to scream again as Stein's grip tightened.
"You would be the first I tried it on, so you could die before the experiment is over. No worries though, Sid turned out well, even as a Zombie. Sex with anyone would be a no go though. So, you'd be useless to Usagi, now wouldn't you?"
The princess shook her head seeing the scythe reduced to a sobbing mess. He could at least try to hide his cowardice. She couldn't blame him too much for crying, however. Stein could intimidate the strongest of men. Even Vegeta was afraid of him sometimes.
"Stein! Just stop it! You're such an ass! Put him down right now!"
Feeling satisfied at the look on the demon weapon's face, Stein decided to obey his princess. Once released, Spirit dropped to his knees grasping his throat. Usagi felt bad for him when he looked up at her in pure terror. Stein started to walk away, but stopped and turned around.
"Watch what you say Spirit. Usagi just saved your ass."
The Death Scythe was silent as the blonde kneeled down beside him.
"Sorry Spirit. Stein is just overprotective. You know you aren't supposed to flirt with me. Dad would have been just as pissed. He wouldn't kill you, but you get the point."
"I'm sorry princess. I couldn't help it! I'm not going to wake up in his lab am I? I don't think I can bare seeing any new scars."
Despite the dark situation, Usagi giggled. He had the right to be afraid of her beloved guardian. It wouldn't be beyond him to seek revenge through experimenting on the death scythe again.
"Don't worry about it. Believe me, he has his sights set on another subject. As long as you watch your mouth, I think you're safe."
"Thanks princess. Again, I'm sorry. You're just so sweet. Kidd is a lucky man."
The princess simply shrugged and stood up.
"I'll be out in a moment. Like I said, these pants are too big. I can't fight if I'm worried about everyone seeing my panties. Apparently, they are distracting."
They both shared a light laugh before the princess turned walking towards the bedroom. Once back in the room, she closed the door and stared at the man lying on the couch near the bed. His arms were behind his head, and he was obviously angry. To any normal being, his scowl would be frightening, but the princess knew he was harmless.
"What the hell was that?!"
"He had it coming."
"You didn't have to try to kill Spirit. You know he's an idiot! Why let him make you lose your shit?"
Stein rolled his eyes and crossed his ankles on the couch. He adjusted his glasses and looked up at the princess. He smirked and begin slowly turning the screw embedded in his skull.
"You can sit on your pedestal when the roles are reversed, brat."
"Normally I would beast mode sexy on you, but you can go around tormenting anyone who talks to me."
"And why the hell not?"
The scientist raised an interested brow while the princess rested her face in her palm.
"Stein. Laws exist for a reason. We've had this talk. I'm going to tell you what you tell me when I want to blow up a city. Find an outlet for all of that rage or you'll get us both in trouble!"
The princess stood in front of her guardian with her arms crossed. She let out a sigh and decided to let it go for the moment. She was curious about the demon sword, so she walked away to finally change clothing. Leaving the sulking half-blood behind her, Usagi made her way to the closet where she had put her clothing. She settled for a pink pleated skirt, white button up blouse, and a pair of white and pink sneakers to match her outfit. Slipping on a light blue jean jacket, the princess walked back over to her guardian. He was staring into space still turning his screw. He lazily glanced over at the princess in front of him, but remained quiet.
"Get up. I'm ready to meet this stupid kishin egg."
Usagi didn't bother waiting for a response before she left the room. There was a large living room connecting the two bedrooms and Spirit was patiently sitting on the couch. He was flipping through channels, but stopped when the princess walked past him.
"Hey Spirit, we're all ready. Sorry for the wait. I had a talk with Stein. I hope he didn't hurt you."
The death scythe smiled and chuckled.
"Just my pride. He's done worse, so I'm not worried. Thanks again for calling him off princess."
"Hey Spirit? What do you know about this demon sword? Who is its meister?"
Usagi sat on the couch beside the death scythe as they both waited for her guardian to emerge. The princess heard the sound of water running and figured he had decided to shower before they left.
"Not much is known about the meister controlling the demon sword. We've been told that the sword was melted down and fused with the body of its meister. There have been an increasing amount of rumors involving the sword and a string of murders. It is considered a very powerful kishin egg right now, and we need to stop it as soon as possible. Supposedly, a witch is controlling them both. She is assumed to have been the one to fuse them together."
"You're kidding. This witch must be pretty sick to even think of that. What if it's in pain? No one in their right mind would willingly agree to something like that!"
Spirit gave the princess a sad smile. Even after hearing about the demon sword's crimes, she was still concerned about its wellbeing.
"You really are Goku's kid, aren't you?"
The princess shrugged and placed a curious finger on her lips.
"Still, I wonder how she did it. I can't lie, I'm curious and wouldn't mind studying it."
Spirit sighed and rested his face in the palm of his hand.
"And just like that you turn into Stein. You should spend more time with Goku before Stein ruins your innocence."
"Too late Spirit. She's more demonic than I'll ever be."
Both the princess and death scythe turned around to see the mad scientist finally emerging from the room. He was roughly drying his hair with a towel before grabbing a shirt. The princess looked, but quickly turned her head blushing. She didn't have to turn back to know he was smirking. She hated being caught.
"I'm not evil!"
"Are too."
"Spirit doesn't think so, and neither does daddy!"
"Goku's dense, and Spirit wants to fuck you. Both warrant a positive opinion. I know better."
"Asshole."
"Brat."
Spirit had practically fallen off of the couch from surprise at the meister's words. Usagi stomped her foot and angrily walked up to her, now fully dressed, guardian. She punched him in the arm before crossing her arms and looking over at the death scythe cowering on the couch.
"He misses his wife! He doesn't want to screw me! Do you Spirit? Be honest."
Stein smirked looking over at his former weapon partner daring him to speak.
"Yes Spirit. Please. Be honest."
The death scythe looked like Goku laughing nervously with his hand behind his head. He began to back away when Stein's smirk grew. He was enjoying the moment. Spirit knew the meister could sense his fear and was looking for a reason to add more scars to his body.
"Haha Well…you see…Usagi. It's best that I not get in between the two of you. You're supposed to be saving yourself for Lord Death's son, not a guy like me."
The scythe felt embarrassment followed by a twinge of relief when he saw Stein's smirk turn to an amused grin as he shook his head.
"Good choice of words Spirit. Your cowardice just extended your lifespan."
The meister's chuckle quickly turned to a fit of laughter when the princess punched him again and stormed out of the hotel room. The death scythe attempted to join in on the laughter until Stein walked past him patting him on the back. He jumped ten feet before holding his chest and stumbling out of the room behind his life-long tormentor.
Exiting the hotel, the trio began walking down the cobblestone street towards the middle of the city. The princess skipped happily in front of the two men causing them both to smile. Stein thought it was amazing how quickly she recovered. Spirit laughed when she stretched her arms out beside her, and ran in circles around them. He enjoyed being around the princess. Her attitude was infectious and she managed to make even Stein smile genuinely. It was definitely something the weapon thought she had inherited from her father. The Saiyan could put a smile on almost anyone's face.
"Hey Usagi, Lord Death said you met my Maka yesterday. I hope she made a good impression."
The princess stopped looking into the window of a small jewelry shop as she spoke.
"Of course! I'm the one who made the terrible impression. I almost hurt Black Star."
"That's because you have no restraint demon."
"Shut up Stein! I haven't killed you yet. I'd say that's a damned good display of restraint."
Spirit laughed loudly before being quickly silenced by Stein's death glare.
"Oh, come on Stein. You have to admit she has a point. She's a blonde Chi Chi, and you two torture each other relentlessly. How you've managed to survive this long is astounding."
The scientist rolled his eyes. He looked over at the small blonde still in front of the shop window. She was mesmerized by something. He and Spirit stood beside her trying to see what had caught her attention. Stein looked in to see a golden heart-shaped cameo locket. The face etched on the front looked quite a bit like the princess. It was admittedly beautiful, but most likely expensive. Someone had put a lot of work into making it. Spirit smiled thinking of getting it for his daughter. He sighed looking at the price tag. Even if he could afford it, would his Maka even accept it from him?
"This locket is so beautiful. It's perfect! Hey Stein?"
"Let me guess. You want it?"
Spirit laughed when the princess clasped her hands together, smiling sweetly at her guardian.
"Geez Stein. How can you say no to that face? She's so cute!"
"Trust me. You either become immune to the cute, or you lose your manhood. Do you really need it demon?"
Usagi shrugged.
"Oh C'mon! You love me, don't you?"
Spirit flinched and laughed again.
"Ouch. She's good. You're heartless if you don't buy it."
Stein smiled and leaned down to eye level with the princess.
"I guess I'm heartless. You're not getting it."
Usagi pouted and stuck her tongue out.
"Whatever. Asshole."
"See, Spirit? The cute dissipates when the demon doesn't get what she wants."
Spirit shook his head smiling. He knew the scientist would probably get her something better when they weren't on a mission. The weapon had watched the princess grow with her guardian, and it was a rare occasion when he denied her anything. He never excepted Stein to become so attached to anyone.
It took the weapon regaining his own memories of the past to finally understand. Spirit knew the great meister wouldn't admit it, but the princess was the center of his universe. It was mind-blowing that he had been able to raise her so well. Spirit wished that the princess had been raised with his own daughter. Both girls would have benefited from the other. Maka was a good fighter, but she was nowhere near Usagi. Maka was only human, but Goku had been trained by one. Was it so far-fetched for her to evolve as a fighter the way Goku's human friends had?
The demon weapon slowly began to worry for his little girl. Even though they weren't close, he was still her father. He knew Goku felt the same way for the princess. Raising a child from afar was no easy task. He knew they both provided as much support as they could for their girls. Goku had gotten lucky raising sons. Girls needed much more attention growing up and all of the warrior's children were surprisingly well-rounded. He hoped the two blondes would become friends as they had been on the moon. Maka's heart was as big as the princess's and she made friends easily.
After the weapon gained his own memories of the tragic fairytale, he felt badly for all involved, himself included. He felt inadequate as a father unable to protect his daughter. None of them deserved to have the weight of the universe on their shoulders. The pressure would be hard to bear for even the strongest warrior. The princess was too sweet to be forced to endure the pain of loss. The father in him wanted to protect her by slaughtering Asura. As he watched her argue with her guardian, he thought that she was rather good at hiding her pain. She was as strong-willed as her father had always been. Maybe Goku and Lord Death could think of a solution before things got too rough.
"Usagi, do you think she will love me if I saved her? You know, swoop in and show her how strong her papa is?"
The princess laughed inwardly, but smiled. He wasn't going to stop until Maka loved him again. She admired his persistence. Usagi giggled looking over at Stein. He was completely uninterested in the conversation. Not feeling like probing his mind, she silently wondered what he was thinking. What could be more interesting than Spirit's continued failed attempts to earn his daughter's affection?
"You may want to rethink that strategy Spirit. Our purpose here is to avoid trouble, not invite it."
The weapon sighed and hung his head in defeat.
"You're right princess. But wouldn't it be great if I could save her?"
"Maka doesn't seem like she is easily impressed. I'm sure she would be grateful in the moment, but that won't keep her attention long. Why not just stop screwing every woman you meet? Seems easy enough, doesn't it?"
Stein spat out his cigarette and began to cackle loudly. He held his stomach and bent over while Usagi and Spirit looked on in curiosity.
"What the hell is your problem? What's so funny?"
"That would be literally the worst Hell imaginable for him. Spirit couldn't stop being a pervert if it killed him! Stop asking people for the moon Usa."
The princess looked over to the weapon. He looked like he was on the verge of a breakdown. Tears were forming in his eyes and the princess felt bad. She sent a punch to her right sending the cackling scientist to the ground. He quickly picked himself back up, glaring at the princess.
"You have no idea what I'm going to do to you later if you keep hitting me."
"Yeah yeah."
The princess sighed and gave Spirit a pat on the back.
"Baby steps big guy. Let's just focus on the moment, shall we? All seems quiet for now, so I'll take that as a good sign."
The princess and weapon smiled at one another and continued to walk down the cobblestone street. Spirit's smile quickly faded when both Usagi and Stein stopped in their tracks and looked off in to the distance. Spirit looked up in terror when he heard a high-pitched scream.
"You feel that Usa?"
"Yeah. Looks like you're going to be able to save Maka after all Spirit. That has to be the demon sword. Let's go! They're in trouble!"
"We're going to have to fly. Spirit, weapon form!"
Stein grabbed his weapon partner as he and the princess took to the air with Usagi leading the way.
"Shit! Stein, Soul's ki just plummeted!"
Maka sat in Santa Mario cathedral crying softly as she held her fallen partner close. It wasn't like her to be so reckless. She was used to scolding Soul for engaging in useless fights. Now, her actions may have gotten them both killed. He had used his body as a shield to protect her from the demon sword's last attack. Now he lay unconscious and bleeding profusely in her arms. The small blonde leaned against the door, but was afraid to look up. Her attacker had been silent since his last attack. She opened her eyes to see him standing several feet away murmuring to himself while his weapon beat him on the head.
The meister had been half correct. The teen named Crona was indeed murmuring to himself, but he and his weapon were not alone. He stood several feet from the sobbing blonde staring at the ceiling. He questioned his weapon aloud and his tone made him sound as though he was in pain.
"Ragnarok, stop hitting me! We hurt them, didn't we? Is that good enough?"
"No, stupid! She wants them dead, so hurry up and finish it! Their souls look tasty."
"She's a girl! You know I don't know how to deal with girls."
*Crona, it's alright. You're doing very well tonight. Now, kill them and take their souls.*
Listening to the disembodied voice seemed to give the meister new resolve. Having been given the permission he needed, a maniacal smile appeared on the face of the lilac-haired meister. He was never sure of how to deal with women, but killing her would keep her from making him uncomfortable again. He looked down at the blonde by the door as he slowly moved closer.
"You should listen when someone speaks to you. I told you these doors open inward. You won't get out by pushing. No matter. You'll be dead soon. Then I won't have to deal with you anymore."
A sullen Maka sat motionless in the floor, still holding her fallen friend. He was going to bleed out soon, but it didn't matter. The Demon Sword was moving closer to finish what he had started. She looked up in horror and closed her eyes, bracing herself for impact.
"Soul, I'm sorry. It's all my fault."
The cathedral known as Santa Mario Novella Basilica came into view as the princess landed at the door. Her guardian and his weapon partner were close behind. Usagi powered up a ki blast as she heard Maka scream a second time. Before she could send it out, Stein had thrown Spirit, penetrating the thick wood of the door. The princess took the chance to open the door to find Maka curled up with Soul bleeding profusely in her lap. The Demon Sword was thrown several feet backward by a swift kick from Stein. Spirit switched to human form standing in front of his daughter as Stein appeared beside him. The weapon hoped his daughter would see how brave he was standing up to the demon sword.
Maka looked up when she heard silence followed by a loud crash. She saw her father standing in front of her.
"Papa…?"
"That's right. Papa's here now Maka. Take a good look at your father's brave figure standing before you. Don't you love me now?"
He began to sulk when she ignored him screaming to the princess. That entrance had been perfect. How could she still not notice?
"Maka, are you alright?! Shit. Soul looks bad."
"Usagi! You have to help! He's going to die!"
The princess kneeled beside the fallen duo as Stein handed her his lab coat. The princess pulled Soul's shirt up to examine the wound. She cursed herself for not having brought a first aid kit. Spirit looked back at the teen slowly beginning to stand after being kicked into the pews.
"That was over quickly. Isn't he supposed to be a kishin? He can barely hold his sword."
Crona whined as his weapon began to beat him again.
"That hurt! I stopped you from bleeding. Thank me like you're supposed to!"
"Ouch! Alright, alright! Thank you Ragnarok. Now stop hitting me!"
Maka stood running behind Stein as Usagi began tending to Soul's wounded chest.
"Dr. Stein, what the hell is he?"
Stein briefly lost his fighting stance to adjust his glasses. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small box of cigarettes. Pulling one out, he put it between his lips and held it long enough to light it. Inhaling deeply, he looked back at the horrified meister answering her question.
"A kishin egg. The reason Shibusen was created."
Maka looked up at her professor.
"The reason Shibusen was created?"
"Yes. Lord Death created Shibusen to make sure that a kishin would never be born into this world. This kid is powerful, but still not powerful enough to be a real threat. This was the reason I was called back to the academy. Call Usagi an added bonus for our side."
*Oh my. Shibusen's greatest meister and Death Scythe. And who is little blonde with them? She looks familiar. This should be interesting. I wonder how long my Crona will last.*
"What the hell Crona! You're going to get us killed! If we survive, I'm lecturing you for an hour this time!"
Crona winced in pain as the large black weapon pulled his hair and stretched his nostrils.
"No, please! I have dark circles under my my eyes! I don't know how to deal with them getting any darker!"
Usagi looked up from her place on the floor in wonder. How the hell had a witch managed to fuse two beings together? She had to be around somewhere. How powerful was she to be able to pull the strings from afar? The pair seemed horrible for each other. It was scary and the princess felt bad for the lilac-haired male. He obviously had very little self-esteem. His weapon was a bully, and she wanted to punch him. If Stein was right, he was a kishin egg. That meant he may be beyond saving. The princess turned her attention back to the fallen weapon in her arms when he coughed up blood.
"Damn it! I forgot my senzu beans! I'm calling Goku!"
Maka screamed as the blonde began to get up.
"No, wait! He needs help now! You can't let him die!"
All she could do was apply pressure to the wound to slow the bleeding. She looked up and felt bad seeing the tears in her new friend's eyes. She smiled briefly seeing that the demon sword looked to be an easy win. He had been thrown several times across the room by her guardian, who had just hit him with his soul wavelength. Stein was efficient when he wanted to be, and was handling Spirit with ease.
"Wow, he's really is weak, isn't he?"
Stein smirked before responding.
"No kidding. Hey demon! How is Soul?"
Usagi smiled sadly, looking up at her guardian.
"He'll be fine. I can do a temporary fix until we can get him to a hospital. A senzu would help, but I forgot to bring them."
Stein chuckled.
"Figures. You're useless demon."
"Shut up! I'm helping him, aren't I?"
"Here, take these. I knew you would forget."
The scientist tossed a small white box to the princess. She opened it to find three capsules inside; one labeled first aid. The princess pressed the top and out of the smoke was another box with everything she needed, including senzu beans. Usagi pulled one out of a small bag and placed it on Soul's lips. She giggled noticing Maka's confused expression.
"A bean? What's that supposed to do?"
"It's a senzu bean. We use them in battle a lot. They heal the body rapidly and just one will keep you full for a long time! It won't heal Soul's wound completely, but it will get us out of the woods so to speak."
Usagi smiled again when she saw Maka's eyes light up in wonder. Soul chewed the small bean and opened his eyes. He sat up and looked around in surprise. Maka kneeled down hugging her partner tightly.
"Whoa! You weren't kidding! Thanks, Usagi!"
"Yeah, thanks Usagi. I feel a lot better."
"No problem guys! He still needs to get to a hospital, but it can wait until the fight is done. Speaking of the fight, your dad and Stein are doing pretty well."
Maka looked to her new friend in confusion.
"Stein? You call your dad by his name?"
Usagi laughed nervously.
"Uhm…well haha... We have a pretty complicated relationship."
Watching Stein kick the Demon Sword out of the cathedral doors, Usagi looked on in sadness. She couldn't believe that the rumors were true. Someone had actually fused a weapon and meister together. It wasn't a surprise that they both seemed mentally unstable. The meister seemed fearful of everything, especially his weapon. Usagi wanted to know more about him. Maybe she could help. She had purified people with the crystal before, but this would be a challenge since they were fused. She flinched when Stein hit him with his soul wavelength again.
"Soul purge!"
Crona screamed in pain and fell to the ground coughing up blood. He slowly stood back up, weapon in hand. Usagi walked out of the cathedral to see the drops of Crona's black blood rising from the ground. She tilted her head to the side in confusion until she saw each drop turn into a spike.
"Bloody needle!"
"Stein, watch out!"
The Demon Sword launched his attack as Stein struggled to dodge. The attack managed to hit the great meister in several places before he used Spirit to deflect the rest. While the princess was intrigued, she was not happy that Stein may have been hurt.
"Oh, you are dead asshole! Moon crystal power, make up!"
Usagi transformed into Sailor Moon and took a fighting stance in front of her guardian. Stein looked down as his broken glasses and then back to the princess. She was surprised when Crona started to backpedal. He suddenly looked terrified and Usagi was again confused.
"S-sailor Moon?!"
The terrified meister's weapon screamed trying to get him to take a fighting stance.
"Crona! Why are you just standing there? We have to kill her before she kills us!"
While the super heroine was still fuming from Crona attacking Stein, she once again began to feel bad. It was obvious that the meister was being forced to fight. He wanted nothing more than to run as far away as possible. Who could be so cruel as to forcing him to fight for them? Stein spoke aloud having read the princess's mind. He could sense that she was using her Soul Perception to examine her opponent.
"Right now, Crona is still in control or Ragnarok, so he is fine. It will become dangerous when the sword consumes him completely. But, what is that snake coiling around his soul?"
Usagi turned around temporarily ignoring her opponent.
"Stein, he's terrified. You have let me at least try to help him."
"Usa, have you forgotten already? He has devoured too many innocent souls. We have to kill him!"
"Usagi, watch out!"
"Bloody needle!"
Before the princess could turn to face her opponent, she was knocked to the ground. The black spikes ripped through her skirt slicing her thighs along with her face and arms. Stein cursed and ran to the princess's side. Usagi looked around, suddenly felt a strange presence. She looked up at her guardian who was now furious. He stood with Spirit in hand.
"I think I'll dissect you now!"
Crona's black blood once again began to levitate. Pulling the princess behind him, Stein began to spin Death Scythe with one hand while powering an attack in the other. It was time for him to test one of his theories about the bond with his princess. Would Spirit be able to hear his thoughts too?
"Hey Spirit, you ready?"
"Yeah, let's do it."
"Soul resonance!"
The weapon and meister shouted in unison. Stein looked over to the princess, examining her from afar. He had to keep his mind from drifting to dirty thoughts seeing her skirt ripped. The scientist wasn't sure if he was protecting her or, if he was pissed for not ripping her skirt himself. She seemed fine, but either way, the Demon Sword had to die. He decided to test their connection as he fought. Usagi looked at him as she heard him speaking.
"Demon, are you alright?"
She looked back at him and nodded, remaining silent. She was afraid that Spirit could hear her thoughts, and didn't want him to hear anything revealing. Stein reassured her that they were alone in his mind.
"Relax, I don't think he can hear us. He would have responded by now."
Stein turned his attention back to the weapon and meister in front of him. It looked as though Crona was gearing up for another attack with his blood. The scientist would have to move quickly. He spun Spirit in front of him deflecting the attack. Leaping into the air, the scientist landed behind Crona and sent his soul wavelength into the meister again. Stein slammed the bottom of Spirit's handle to the ground as a large barrier began to form around him. Usagi giggled at its shape. It looked like a giant rag doll with a screw sticking out of its head, just like Stein's. She had only seen him use the attack once against Piccolo. The Namekian couldn't bare the high frequency radiating from Stein's soul and admitted defeat.
"Protective Spirit Body!"
Usagi looked at Stein and a light blush graced her features. He looked good without his glasses. She couldn't deny that she enjoyed him fighting for her. The princess sighed as she silently contemplated using her crystal. With Stein present, she was sure that she would be just fine, and she could save their opponent. She grasped the broach on her chest and closed her eyes. They reopened when she felt the same presence again.
It felt dark and mildly suffocating. Usagi looked up when she thought she heard a 'hissing' sound. The princess looked around again to see if anyone else may have been feeling it as well. Even with her bond with Stein, he didn't show and signs of awareness. Usagi cringed when Stein hit Crona with one of the attacks she needed to learn. It was soul purge, twin spears. He screamed loudly, and the princess cringed again at the sound of his body crashing to the pavement. He lay motionless as Maka cried out to her professor.
"Dr. Stein, he's just going to use the needles again!"
Stein shook his head and lowered Spirit, allowing him to convert to human form.
"No, the fight is over. It's pathetic, but I've stopped him. He's no longer a threat."
Usagi ran up and hugged her guardian before looking on in sadness. It looked like she wouldn't be able to save the meister this time. She looked over at Maka who seemed to be just as sad as she was. At least she wasn't the only one feeling sorry for the Demon Sword. Could a kishin even be purified? The princess looked on in surprise when Crona's body suddenly began to violently convulse. Maka asked the question before she could find the words. Soul quietly raised a brow intrigued.
"What the hell is happening to him? Is he alright?"
"No. My soul purge ripped the fragile bond holding him together apart. He's going through soul rejection."
As soon as the words left his mouth, Usagi looked into the sky. Her eyes widened having finally found the presence responsible for her senses.
"Well, this has been rather interesting. Soul protect…release."
"Stein, a witch!"
"Death really sent the cavalry, didn't he? I never expected Sailor Moon to make an appearance. Crona, you've done well, but you still have work to do."
Usagi looked around, happy that everyone else was finally catching on. Maka looked as though she was going to collapse as both Stein and Spirit looked into the sky. The scientist instinctively moved in front of the princess, his tail wrapping firmly around her waist. Maka once again questioned her professor.
"But how? How did I not feel such a powerful soul before now?"
"Soul Protect. It's an advanced level of magic that witches use. It masks the soul wavelength, making them appear to be a normal human soul. I didn't sense it either. Hey demon? Was this why you were feeling so apprehensive?"
"Yeah. I knew I felt something, but I couldn't put my finger on it. It was definitely her. She has to be the one who put that weapon in Crona's body."
The witch waved her hands in front of herself chanting. A large snake appeared behind her and slithered through the air down to the fallen meister. It coiled around his body pulling him into the air behind the witch.
"You've done well Crona, but I'll still have to punish you for losing this fight. Before that, I'll have to punish Death's soldiers! Vector Arrow!"
Snake-like arrows formed all around the witch and zig zagged through the air aiming for the princess and her guardian. Grabbing Spirit, the pair performed soul resonance once again. Spirit's blade grew exponentially, changing shape.
"Witch hunt!"
Usagi smiled, never having seen Stein use witch hunt. Despite fighting like a Saiyan, the princess was very interested in using witch hunt. She was sure she could do it without any issue, but had never gotten the chance. Everyone in the Son family was considered a meister, including her mother. Her eyes widened when she realized that the arrows weren't directed at her guardian, but at her. Even though she was behind the scientist, she couldn't help the sudden fearful feeling. With one motion, Stein threw her to the ground and blocked the arrows with Spirit. He snarled when he heard the witch giggle.
"My my. Dr. Stein, I had to idea you were related to this adorable vigilante. Your souls are almost identical. I suppose you won't let me play with her, will you?"
Maka and Soul both ran in front of the super heroine in an attempt to block any oncoming attack. Usagi looked up thinking how weak she must look being so passive. She hated letting others defend her. She stood and looked to her guardian whose hair was beginning to turn blonde. His eyes began to glow as he quickly turned super Saiyan and took a fighting stance.
"Just try it!"
The witch simply giggled again as she began to float further away.
"No, I believe I will take my leave now."
"No! Get back here and fight!"
Usagi stood, calling after the witch. She levitated and attempted to fly, but was unable. She looked down to see Stein grabbing her ankle, pulling her back to the ground. He wrapped his arms around her shoulders, pulling her close. She looked up and he smiled, shaking his head.
"No demon. Let her go. We need to get Soul back home as quickly as possible. Want to help me operate?"
The princess giggled, and nodded.
"Sure thing! Just don't critique my suture work, alright?"
"No promises."
Usagi ran over to Maka and her partner as she saw Soul fall to the ground. He was weak from blood loss and she quickly pulled her phone out to call Goku. She didn't have to look over to know that her fellow blonde was on the verge of tears once again. She jumped when Goku suddenly popped up grinning. Usagi made eye contact with Spirit, and used her glance to signal him to his sullen daughter. He placed a hand on her shoulder and gave a sad smile when she looked back.
"Papa?"
"It's alright Maka. Let's go home. Hey Goku, can you teleport us to Death City hospital. Soul really needs medical attention."
Goku simply nodded and kneeled down tossing Soul gently over his shoulder. The group made physical contact with the warrior being instantly transported to an operating room. Several nurses ran in and Everyone, but Usagi and Stein were directed to the waiting room. The princess felt bad for her new friends. Even though she knew that Soul would be fine, she was still worried for both him and Maka. Despite the successful operation, Stein was not happy. He hadn't said anything, but he sensed Usagi preparing to use her crystal for the Demon Sword. Had she decided to, the witch would immediately know who she was. They couldn't afford to mess up so early in the game.
Usagi and Stein exited into the hallway as Soul was transported to a private room. The princess looked down to see her new friend sitting by the door.
"Maka, you're still here? You should really try and get some sleep."
The meister stood and straightened her red skirt. Usagi smiled and bowed, while Stein simply smiled.
"Is he alright? Can I go in yet?"
The princess didn't have the heart to tell her friend that she found black blood inside of her weapon partner. She didn't know how it would affect him, but she was sure it wouldn't be good. They would have to track down the witch as soon as possible. Usagi nodded giving Maka the go-ahead to see her fallen friend, and decided to follow her into the weapon's room. Before leaving, she stood on the tips of her toes to kiss her guardian. He smiled again, kissing her forehead.
Sitting up in bed was Maka's weapon partner, Soul. He had been looking down, but looked up smiling as his meister walked in waving. He looked at the princess briefly and began to laugh.
"Hey Maka. Hey Usagi. Wow, you look like professor Stein in that labcoat. Same stitching and everything!"
Usagi blinked and scratched her head as she looked down at her attire. Soul was right. She was wearing a blue pleated skirt with a pale pink blouse. Her lab coat, however, looked exactly like her guardian's. Stein had made it himself after she begged for it to mirror his. The princess giggled scratching the back of her head before sitting in a chair beside Soul's bed. Maka smiled and sad on the edge of the bed.
"I'm glad to see you awake Soul. I was worried."
Soul frowned.
"Maka, please, don't worry about me. We're both alive thanks to Usagi and Dr. Stein. Besides, it's all my fault."
The princess frowned looking quietly between weapon and meister. They were both blaming themselves for what happened, and weren't communicating well. Usagi froze and looked to the door.
'Shit. Black Star.'
Suddenly, the door burst open and in came the blue-haire assassin. He barreled past the two blondes, and jumped onto Soul's bed. He grabbed the weapon's shirt and began violently shaking him.
"Soul, wake up! It's okay, Black Star is here! You have to wake up and look at my handsome face!"
*Maka Chop*
Tsubaki came running behind the meister, and attempted to pry him off of his fallen friend. The princess jumped up, but before she could get to him, Maka had hit Black Star on the head sending him to the bed beside his friend. Usagi sighed and sat back down, smiling inwardly. She couldn't help laughing at her unconscious brother. She silently hoped he would come to love her again. They all looked to the door hearing a new set of footsteps.
"You kids are lively today. Why is this door broken?"
The teenagers greeted the new face in unison before Usagi answered her question.
"Good morning Dr. Medusa."
"Sorry Medusa. Black Star got a little excited coming to see Soul. I can fix it a little later if you'd like."
"No need Usagi, we have staff for that. I wanted to tell you how well you did with Soul's operation. Everyone is impressed!"
Usagi blushed and silently nodded.
"Maka, I have a favor to ask."
"Of course, what is it?"
The doctor didn't need to say anything else as Maka looked down and sighed in annoyance. Her father was shamelessly clinging to Medusa's leg, singing her praises.
"Oh Medusa, heal me with your loving embrace!"
Sighing a second time, Maka hit her father with the same book she had used on Black Star. Usagi shook her head as sadness once again took over her. Everyone already had established relationships, and she was unsure of how she would fit in. She suddenly wanted to pull out her crystal and restore everyone's memories. Scrapping the idea, the princess turned her attention back to the people in her presence. Medusa was once again speaking to her new friend Maka.
"Well, you and Soul seem to have gotten into pretty serious trouble. You're lucky that you weren't hurt as well."
Usagi suddenly felt strange. She was slightly angry at the doctor for making Maka feel sad again. There was a strange energy radiating from the new doctor and she couldn't figure out what it was. It wasn't evil, but it did make her uncomfortable. The princess looked back up to see Maka looking down with unshed tears in her eyes. She decided to try and give her encouragement while flashing her father's signature smile.
"Try not to blame yourself Maka. No one knew that would happen and we are all safe, right? You're an amazing meister and I'm sure Soul wouldn't trade you for anything. You'll get stronger I know!"
"Thanks, Usagi."
"No problem! Besides, some stupid witch is no match for Shibusen students. I guess that includes me now!"
The meister looked up wiping tears from her eyes. She smiled at her new classmate before she was brought into a light hug with Usagi. They separated and shared a giggle. Medusa turned to leave the room cursing to herself. Stein's brat was right. If she were caught in the school, she wouldn't survice. Adding Sailor Moon to the school roster could prove disastrous for the witch. She would have to perform her experiments quickly, so the great Shinigami wouldn't see what was coming.
'Stupid girl. I don't care whose kid you are. I will kill you.'
Back in the hallway, Stein turned to see Spirit and Goku slowly approaching. He was surprised to see Gohan trailing close behind.
"You two are cute. Admit it. You're the proud father of a princess. You should really make her get a degree."
Goku frowned inwardly, but faked a smile for the moment. Spirit's comment pulled a string in the warrior's heart. Stein frowned knowing the death scythe had just bruised Goku's pride. Even though Stein deserved the credit for raising the talented princess, it still hurt seeing another man credited for her upbringing. Gohan frowned and shook his head. His father was usually so happy, but the subject of Usagi always seemed to sadden him. He loved his little sister and could understand how his father felt about not having her with them. He wanted nothing more than to be raised with his princess in the same household. Goten had expressed similar feelings on more than one occasion.
"Stop trying to turn me into a father. Besides, Gohan needs his doctorate before Usagi starts, doesn't he?"
The group laughed as Goku pat his son on the back. He was proud that all of his children were succeeding in life beyond fighting.
"Too late bud. Usagi performed a miracle. Now, tell me what you won't tell Maka."
The scientist pulled a cigarette from his pocket, lighting it. He pulled a rolling chair from behind him, and sat backwards in it.
"Usagi found black blood. I have no doubt that it's a curse."
"I see."
Goku looked up, worried about his daughter.
"Stein…"
"Don't worry Goku. I masked her soul, remember? I refuse to put her in any danger. More than just her life depends on it. As for Soul, we'll just keep watch."
"I know you won't let her get hurt. I trust you. By the way, Death wants to speak to you."
The group grew quiet when they heard footsteps behind them.
"Well hello boys. Dr. Stein, your daughter did so well. She's a surgical super star. You must be proud."
Goku lowered his head, but lifted it again to smile at the woman behind him. Gohan sighed and faked the same smile. The men greeted the newcomer in unison before Stein responded.
"Hello Dr. Medusa."
"Thank you, Dr. Medusa. She has a long way to go. Her suture work needs improvement."
The doctor giggled tucking a stray piece of blonde hair behind her ear. She smiled up at the scientist, standing close.
"Oh, don't be such a perfectionist. Give the girl a break. If she is being trained by you, I'm sure she will do very well in the medical field."
Gohan suddenly felt uncomfortable. He had only spoken to the new doctor at Shibusen a handful of times, and each time was strange. His soul perception wasn't as good as his sister's, but the older blonde made him suspicious. As far as he knew, she was no threat. He attempted to put his apprehension aside for later. The professor worried for his little sister. If anyone was going to be around her, he wanted to know everything about them. For the moment, he would have to do as his father did, and take a back seat to Stein. He trusted the meister to keep her safe, as he always had. Gohan listened silently, uninterested in the conversation. He made a resolution to do some investigating of his own.
