Maka awoke early in the morning, still sitting on the couch, with her head resting on Soul's shoulder. She looked up at him. He was still asleep. So, ever-so-slightly, she rested her head on his shoulder again. But It woke him up, and for some reason she pretended to sleep. He lightly shook her shoulder. She rose her head, and looked at him. He forced a smile. But she could tell just in the way he looked at her, her pain was hurting him too. He looked exhausted. How long was he awake? She thought. Soul stretched his arms and stood up. She looked at him and grabbed his wrist. She didn't want him to go. She felt helpless.
"Can I take a quick shower?" Soul asked in the sweetest tone he could pull off. Maka let go of his wrist, and shook her head yes. He disappeared into the bathroom. She felt sick. How could her father do this to her? But suddenly, it dawned on her. Soul didn't mention how he found out Spirit raped her. But her mother said the exact thing, so it has to be true, right?
15 minutes later, Soul came out, smelling of soap.
"Soul?" She said finally. He looked at her, relieved yet nervous at the same time.
"Yes?" Maka could hear the fear in his voice.
"How did you find out Spirit raped me?" He opened his mouth to say something, but no words came out.
"Do you not believe me?" Soul questioned. Maka looked around the room. Her stomach was tied in knots.
"I believe you, because my mother said the same thing... at the same time."
"Oh. When I found him walking out of the complex, he was muttering something that I couldn't understand. When Lord Death was driving me home, I realized what he said and I had to tell you... Im sorry..." Soul answered. "I told Lord Death though. He said he would add that to the list of reasons to fire him. He didn't seem to surprised." Maka gasped. Had he done this to other girls? Did he do it to her mother? But wouldn't she tell her that, too? A million questions ran through her head. Finally, Soul got up and went to his room. She didn't even realize it.
But out of nowhere, the worst possible thing came to her head. Without thinking it through, She got up and went to the kitchen and walked up to the steak knife rack. She picked up the butcher knife, which lied under the rack. She pricked all ten of her fingers. She giggled as the madness took control of her. Then she laughed louder and ran the blade across her pal with extreme force. Soul came running out and plucked the knife out of her hands.
"What the hell, Maka?" She laughed some more.
"I need out, Soul! I can't take it anymore. I can't live with this burden!" She stepped on his foot hard enough to let go of the knife and drop it. She caught it and ran into the closet, locking the door.
"MAKA!" Soul exclaimed. He turned his arm into a scythe. He made a hole in the door and used his other arm to open it. What he found was unthinkable.
