I didn't sleep a single minute that night, my mind reeling from the events of the day. Edward didn't want us – he didn't want me, didn't want our baby. He didn't even believe the baby was his. That fact stung as I relived the moment he shouted that after telling me, not so nicely, to leave his house. I was alone in this.

I knew I had Charlie, and Angela – possibly even Esme on a more personal level know she knew who the father of my baby was – but I couldn't help but cry when I thought of my baby. They would only have one parent, they would never have their Daddy there to help them with things that Mommy couldn't do. They would never be a Daddy's Little Girl or a mini-me of their father. I would have to be both the mother and the father to this innocent child.

That hurt. It was so unfair.

The next morning as I made my way into the Clinic, my stomach became infested with butterflies. I was so nervous. I knew at this stage it wasn't my baby kicking and so the nerves took over my body and I finally acknowledged that something might be seriously wrong.

"Bella, come on through," Esme called, shaking me from my thoughts. I made my way into the room and took my seat, holding my shaking hands in my lap. It was then that I realised we weren't alone. In the corner, hunched over, was Edward. He looked angry and annoyed, obviously not here on his own accord.

"Now, before you ask me why he's here, I will explain. He has as much responsibility to this child as you do and I want him to see the baby for himself. I know I am your doctor and, in that sense, I shouldn't interfere. But I am also your baby's grandmother and I do not want to see my son make a mistake that he regrets later in life. So, with that out of the way, I'd like to perform another ultrasound, Bella, so please hop on up and lift up your shirt," she spoke with a professional tone, but I could see the motherly side to her in her eyes as she kept a close watch on Edward, obviously making sure he didn't run from the room.

"Why did you want me to come in straight away, Esme?", I asked as I lifted my shirt. I heard Edward take a sharp intake of breath, probably from seeing my stomach now swollen with his child. I didn't care to look at his expression, which was bound to be one of disgust, so I kept my eyes trained on Esme as she moved the ultrasound machine.

"There's just something I want to check. I think that baby in there might have been hiding something from us," she spoke light-heartedly as I saw her reach for the ice-cold gel. I braced myself for the cold and I flinched when the gel was squirted onto my stomach – I heard Edward snicker from the corner of the room.

"You find it funny, do you, Edward? Esme, please squirt some on his stomach to see how he likes it," I growled, looking at Esme, telling her that I was being completely serious.

"I will, in due course, Bella. But right now, I want to check that your baby is OK," she said, making me forget all about seeking revenge on Edward.

"OK, so what I'm doing this for is because last time you had an ultrasound, there was your baby, of course, but there was also something else that came up on the screen, that I didn't notice until after you had left. So, let's get to it," she said, starting the ultrasound.

The baby's heartbeat flooded the room and I smiled. I still wasn't quite used to it, but I loved to hear the proof that my baby was real. I made myself look over to Edward, to see whether this was affecting him; it looked as if it was.

He sat, still curled into himself, in the corner, but, unlike before, he looked straight ahead now, alerted by the noise of the baby's heartbeat. He seemed to be trying not to convey his emotions but I could see the unfamiliar trait of happiness seeping through his eyes and trying to burst out.

"Here they are, Bella. I'm sure you're still picturing the last ultrasound, so this one's probably not any different to you," Esme said as she pushed more buttons, similarly to how she had done for the previous ultrasound. "Edward, how does it make you feel now you've seen your baby?", Esme asked, turning directly to her son.

"I don't care about it," he said, but it was obvious to both myself and Esme that he didn't believe what he was saying.

"OK, let me just see if we can get a clearer shot than last time".

"Yes, like I suspected, there's something else in there as well as your baby, Bella," Esme concluded, looking across at me.

"What? Are they OK?", I started to panic.

"Yes, they are. It seems in the previous ultrasound I didn't pick up on the second fetus. It looks as if you're expecting twins".

I froze, refusing to look at Esme, or Edward, as I processed what she had said. Two babies. Two mouths to feed, two babies to hold, to rock to sleep. Two babies who wouldn't know their father, unless he decided he wanted them.

I still wasn't paying attention until I heard Edward swear loudly and punch what I assumed was the wall, before rushing out of the room. Esme ran after him and I could hear the muffled tones of their conversation taking place outside the room.

"Edward, what is wrong with you?".

"Mom, when it was one baby, it wasn't mine. Now it's two babies, they're not mine. Why would you believe her" he spoke harshly at the mention of me, "over your own SON? I don't care about seeing them, they're not mine and I don't want anything to do with them! Making me come here was a stupid mistake". I heard him storm out and Esme sigh quietly before returning to me.

"Bella, I'm sorry about Edward. I want to be able to tell you he'll come to his senses sooner or later but I really am not sure about him anymore. He's changed so much over the past few months, I don't even recognize him anymore," Esme apologized as she once again took her seat. "Now, on a more positive note, congratulations about your twins. I apologise for not seeing baby B previously, but it can happen that one of the babies hides behind another. Obviously, now you're eating for three so I encourage you to eat wisely and healthily. Take your vitamins and avoid stress. I know that's easier said than done, especially with the Edward situation," Esme spoke softly as she printed off several copies of my most current ultrasound.

"Thank you, Esme. I think I'll be avoiding Edward if he's going to act like this. I don't want someone in my children's lives who doesn't want to be there. Thanks," I tried to smile as I picked up my belongings and left the room.

I quickly made my next appointment with the receptionist, who kindly waved at me as I left the clinic. Luckily, my truck wasn't very far from the entrance, but I realised as I stepped out into the cold air that I still had to pass several cars before reaching mine.

I walked apprehensively, due to the fresh rainfall that hadn't been there when I arrived, past a silver vehicle, glancing inside vacantly as I did so. I was met with a pair of amazing green eyes – green eyes that I would recognize from anywhere. Edward.

I didn't know why he was still here, but I presumed that he must have received a lift from his mother and so was waiting for her. It struck me as peculiar, as Esme had many hours left to work before she would finish for the day. Edward was also a popular young man, and so getting a ride with a friend wouldn't be a hard task. But instead of returning to his life of normalcy, he sat in his mother's car, staring back at me.

I broke off our eye contact as soon as it has started and rushed to my truck, as fast as was safe. As I went to open my door, I felt a hand push mine aside and turned around to see Edward standing extremely close to my body. I immediately tensed and stepped away from him, afraid to get too close.

"What do you want, Edward? Didn't you say enough in there?", I spat at him as I continued to move away from him.

"Whatever you want from me, Bella, you're not getting it. Is it money? Do you want me to pay for your bastard children for the next 18 years? I knew Daddy Swan didn't get that much from being Chief but is it really that bad that you need to lie and say I'm the father of your mistakes, just for a quick buck? Seriously, Bella, that's low," he spoke harshly as I stared back at him in shock.

"Of course these babies are yours, I was a virgin the night we had sex, and I haven't been with anyone but you. Ask your Mom about the estimated date of conception, I'm pretty sure it'll coincide with the day you invited yourself over to have sex with me". His words had hurt me more than I anticipated.

"They're not mine," he said simply as he made his way back to his mother's car, leaving me standing alone beside my truck.

I cried myself to sleep that night. I cried for my babies. I cried over the fact that I was have babies – plural. I cried over Edward's dismissal of them. I cried over him calling them my 'bastard children'. I cried over how my life had so easily deteriorated.

The next morning, I awoke at the crack of dawn to a new bout of morning sickness, causing me to charge to the bathroom and violently throw up. I hated that part of pregnancy.

After spending minimal time getting ready – who was I going to impress now, really? – I made my way downstairs to grab breakfast before starting the drive to school. When I made it down the stairs, however, I was met at the kitchen table by my best friend – Angela. I figured I was getting a lift to school today and a lecture on everything Edward related.

"Morning, Bella," she spoke in a chipper voice, obviously a morning person. I groaned in response. "I was just popping over to ask how to doctor's went yesterday? Also, I wondered if you wanted a lift to school today."

"The doctors went as well as expected. Edward was there, Esme made him," I mumbled, causing her to frown. "Oh, and the reason I was called in was because there are TWO babies in here," I gestured to my stomach, "because, as if my life wasn't hard enough before, now I have two mini-beings to look after."

"Oh, Bella, that's amazing news! Did you know my Mom had twins? Twin boys. Fraternal, though. Do you know if you're having fraternal or identical? Oh, I hope it's fraternal, if you had identical, wouldn't you be afraid of mixing them up all the time? And if you have fraternal, then there's the chance of getting one of each! Wouldn't that be the best?", she squealed, exhausting me.

"I don't know, Angela. I've known for one day. Give me some time to process," I replied as I quickly ate the piece of toast in my hand and went to fetch my school bag. "Let's go."

School seemed unusually busy this morning. Every car owned by the school pupils of Forks appeared to have been driven that day and, although it was insanely busy, it wasn't crowded enough to obscure my view when I noticed where the Cullens were located.

Edward rested against the side of his Volvo, mid-conversation with his sister's boyfriend, Jasper. Alice, Edward's sister, stood off to the side, her arms linked with those of her other brother's girlfriend, Rosalie. Bella realised now how stupidly naïve she had been to assume Edward was interested in her, when he was constantly surrounded by such beautiful women, Esme included.

"Bella, we're gonna have to hurry to trig. if we're gonna make it on time, parking's gonna take a while," Angela spoke as she looked around the parking lot for a vacant space. We both noticed the one free space at the same time – right next to Edward.

"I know what you're gonna say. Just take it, Ang. It's just a space."

"OK, let me pull up, kill the engine, jump out the car, then I'll run around to your side to help you out. All the books and the baby bump you've got on the go there don't help your klutziness," she smiled at me as we swung into the space, drawing attention to ourselves. "Ready, go!" Angela shouted to herself as she unbuckled us both in record time, and by the time I had turned my head towards the door, Angela's hand was already on the handle.

"I look so pregnant, I swear I've already got the waddle," I whispered to Angela as she passed me back my belongings. I walked past Edward's car and, as I came into direct contact with Edward himself, I attempted to squeeze between him and Angela's car to get passed. I realised after some trying that I could no longer fit through a gap that size.

"Excuse me, can I get through?" I half-whispered to Edward, who's head whipped around at the sound of my voice.

"Why, too fat now?" he sneered as he stood his ground, refusing to move.

"Seriously, Edward. Stop being an ass and let the girl through," I heard one of Edward's family call out to him from over by their own car.

He let me through after a while, which only delayed us further, meaning I had to run – or try to – to Trig. My teacher was forgiving though, obviously aware of the parking lot situation and so let it slide.

Lunch came around soon enough, and I took my usual seat between Angela, who was soon engrossed in a conversation with her now steady boyfriend, Ben, and Mike, who would do anything I said, which wasn't always a good thing.

The lunchroom was also extremely busy today and so meant that our tables, which were long and thin, fitting twenty on either side, were crammed full of strangers eating next to one another.

"This table's the only one that's free, guys," I heard the high-pitched voice of Edward's sister nearing where we were sat and I inwardly hoped they wouldn't choose to sit here.

"Great," I heard Edward mutter as I felt the table moving, obviously from their presence.

"Hi, little girl who Edward was an ass to earlier?" said a tall, broad boy.

"Yes?" I spoke back more harshly than I had anticipated.

"I just wanted to apologize for my stupid brother's here," he said, patting Edward on the shoulder, "behavior. He's not normally this mean to innocent young ladies."

"She's not innocent," I caught Edward say under his breath, but luckily it went undetected by his family.

We didn't speak to them again for the remainder of the lunch hour, but every so often when I glanced over to their group, I was met with a pair of green eyes penetrating into my skull. I didn't understand at that point what he wanted and why he was acting in the way he was.

"Hey, Edward?" I heard Mike say from next to me, although I wasn't completely paying attention. "How does it feel to pick on innocent girls? What's she ever done to you, hey?"

"Hey, Bella?" Edward replied loudly, turning directly to me, causing his family to stop their conversation and focus on ours.

"How does it feel to be pregnant with two babies that aren't even mine? Whore."

My mouth dropped open in shock. Then everything went black.

Author's Note: Here's chapter 4, guys! Sorry it took a while, but I had a law test that I only remembered about the night before and I had some other stuff to organize (it's my birthday this Friday!)

Please stick with me. I promise you everything will work out in the end. I can also promise that there will be a lot of bumps in the road and some of you may get upset as you read them, I'm sure I will writing them. But I hope you all stick with me till the end! ENJOY!
