REWRITTEN 1/13/2019
Author's Notes: I hope the way I've been using the characters are believable and the way they talk and act aren't out of character. I also appreciate the feedback and ideas you may want to see in future chapters.
But enough about that. On with the story!
Enjoy.
The Next Day
Haruhi looked up from her desk to see Kagome walk into the classroom, brushing off mass amounts of fur from her uniform. "Kagome" Haruhi called to her. "I got the list of clubs you wanted."
'It's like it's glued to my body.' Kagome thought. She sat down and looked up to see Haruhi standing by her desk with a piece of paper in her hands. "Thanks. I'll look around for clubs later today." She took the paper from Haruhi. "Would you mind coming with me?"
The brunette shook her head. "I can't. Since I was late to my club yesterday they've been keeping a close eye on me." She looked back to see the twins' piercing gazes.
Kagome ignored the twins and continued to remove the clinging fur, obviously pissed.
"...Why do you have so much hair on you?" Haruhi hesitantly pointed out.
She glared. "I brought a dog home with me yesterday. I had him locked inside my room so I wouldn't lose him in the house, but it turns out that he's not as docile as I thought he was. He shed everywhere. I can't blame him for shedding but I can blame him for rolling around on my clothes and tackling me this morning. I didn't have enough time to wash it off so I had to come to school like" She gestured to her body. "this. Then-"
.`.`.`.`.`.`.`.`.`.`.`.`
Haruhi gave a simple "Oh." in an attempt to stop the girl's rampage. It didn't work. It was clear she'd unintentionally opened a whole can of worms and Kagome was just as happy to complain about it.
She thought she'd be able to talk to him about what he'd said yesterday…or would it be what she'd said? Either way, she wasn't going to get her/him to talk about it right now. 'If "he" is a "she" then why are they wearing that uniform?'
It could just be that she identifies as a male but…don't transgendered people usually use pronouns that correspond with their desired gender? Did she just slip up?
'I guess it doesn't really matter either way.' She thought.
"Alright everybody. Get in your seats. It's time for class." The teacher announced to the classroom.
Haruhi silently praised the teacher's timing and sat down in her seat. Her glee was short lived, however, when she heard Kagome still muttering all of her problems to herself.
Haruhi sighed. 'It's going to be a long day.'
Moments Later
The teacher scribbled more information on the board. "This will be on the test so make note of it."
'Why is she going so fast through the material? I can barely keep up.' Kagome thought.
Ever since class began, her hand had been going nonstop in her notebook just to keep up with the teacher's pace. She looked around and noticed that all her other classmates seemed to be having the same struggle as her.
'It feels like my hand is going to snap off.'
*Snap*
Kagome stiffened and looked down at her hand. She relaxed when she saw her now broken pencil drop onto the desk. 'Great. I think I have another one.' She bent down to her bag and started to dig in it but stopped when it landed on something soft. 'Huh? Kagome looked inside and found a white ball of fluff staring back up at her.
"Fluffy?!" She whispered. (That's what she'd decided to name the animal because of it's keen resemblance to a certain dog demon.)
At the sound of his name he looked up at her with innocent eyes.
'How did he get in my bag?' Her bag had felt heavier this morning but how did she not notice a dog in her bag!? She glanced around the classroom to make sure no one had seen her discovery. "Okay Fluffy. Don't make a sound." She said sternly. "For me?" She gave the dog a pleading look.
In return it gave her an honest stare.
Kagome almost slapped her forehead. 'What am I thinking? I can't negotiate with a dog.' She began to panic. 'What am I going to do? I can't let him stay in my bag the whole day. He could make noise. And even if I excused myself right now and somehow got him out of the school without anyone knowing, he's bound to run off if I'm not watching him.'
Then Kagome suddenly remembered, she keeps a bunch of chocolate in her bag. (A.N.: If you didn't know, dogs + chocolate = bad. And thus concludes Educational Factoids with TrueDarkHorse.)
Kagome took in a deep breath. 'I'll have to take the chance.'
She closed the lid on her bag and raised her hand.
"And that class." The teacher turned around. "Is how you…what is it Kagome?"
"I need to use the restroom sensei." She told her.
"Do you really need to go right now? Can't you wait a bit longer? I'm in the middle of a very important-"
Kagome's eyebrow twitched. "I'm afraid that I can't wait any longer." She said, trying to sound as kind as possible in her stressful situation.
The teacher pondered over it for a little bit before giving Kagome permission.
"Thank you." Kagome said, picking up her bag carefully and hurriedly walking out of the classroom.
'I wonder what that was about?' Haruhi thought.
.`.`.`.`.`.`.`.`.`.`.`.`
She set Fluffy on the ground outside the school's front entrance. "Ok Fluffy. I need you to listen to me very carefully." She told him.
The dog looked up at her and went into a sitting position.
"You can't leave this spot AT All. You may only move when the school day is over. Got it?"
He simply blinked at her.
Kagome put her hand to her face in irritation. She would have called someone like Milo to come and pick Fluffy up but she found out after taking him in that Fluffy tends to run away from everyone that approaches him aside from her.
'Lady luck, please be in my favor today.' She prayed.
For the rest of the school day she attempted to feign interest during the lectures but all she was doing inside of her head was panicking. She looked at the clock for the millionth time. 'Is that bell ever going to ring?' If Kagome strained her neck to look over through the window, she could see Fluffy sitting by the door which helped calm her nerves a little. But not fully.
Kagome groaned.
The teacher stopped writing on the board momentarily but started back up again a few seconds later.
"This sucks." Kagome mumbled, loudly.
The teacher stopped again and turned around to look at Kagome. The rest of the class followed suit.
"I'm sorry. Is my foreign language class to rudimentary for you?" The man asked.
The class looked at him then back to Kagome for her response.
"I wish I could just leave." Kagome sighed, closing her eyes and continued to not notice what the teacher was saying.
His face turned flustered at her comment.
Haruhi tapped her finger on Kagome's desk.
She looked at her. "What is it?"
Haruhi put her finger to her lips and pointed at the teacher who was currently staring daggers into Kagome's soul.
She raised an eyebrow. "What'd I do?"
"Say you apologize." Haruhi whispered to her.
"But...why?"
She rolled her eyes. "Just say it."
Kagome shrugged and stood up from her chair. "I'm very sorry sir." She bowed her head at him.
The teacher turned back around to the board, not pleased with her apology at all, but continued on with the lesson.
The other girls in the class gazed lovingly at Kagome.
"He's so...bad"
"And yet oddly polite."
The twins exchanged similar side glances with one another.
Kagome sat back down in her chair, still completely clueless on what had just happened. "Maybe I should try to pay attention again." Kagome said in a low tone. She picked up her pencil but stopped before it could make contact with the paper. 'What subject am I in right now?'
The school's bell rang, signaling the beginning of lunch. People all got out of their chairs and shuffled out of the door.
Haruhi got up and looked back at Kagome who was also about to leave. "Could we talk Kagome?" She asked. She felt bad about wanting to know. It wasn't her business but she was still curious about what happened yesterday and a tiny part of her still wanted closure.
Kagome looked at her with a surprised expression. "Uh. Ok, but do you mind if we talk outside?"
Haruhi shrugged. "That's fine." She told her. 'I wonder why Kagome wants to talk outside.' She thought.
They both walked out of the classroom and school in silence. When they made it out of the school's door, Kagome began to look around her, as if trying to find something.
"Kagome?" Haruhi asked.
Kagome didn't seem to hear her and looked over to something to the right of them. Haruhi looked over in the same direction as Kagome walked towards a nearby bush. She watched as she picked up something very white. And very furry. "Is that a dog?"
Kagome hugged the dog to her. "Yeah." She shamefully admitted. "Don't ask. It's a long story." She told her as she sat down on the ground and patted the ground beside her, signaling for Haruhi to sit as well.
She nonchalantly walked and sat beside her.
"You wanted to talk about something?" Kagome said.
"Yeah…" She trailed off a bit. "You are…biologically…a girl, right?" Haruhi asked, awkwardly.
Kagome stopped petting Fluffy and looked at her.
She began to slightly sweat. 'I didn't offend her, did I?' She thought worriedly.
Kagome's glance strayed away from Haruhi's face, as if she was trying to avoid her eyes, and nervously smiled. "I'm…yes." She said defeated. "I'm a girl."
"Oh." Haruhi said.
.`.`.`.`.`.`.`.`.`.`.`.`
Kagome glanced at her from the side. "Oh?" She repeated. "You mean, you don't care?"
"No." She answered.
"You don't think it's weird?" Kagome asked.
"I think it's weird, yes." She bluntly said.
Kagome had to take a second to recover from the shock from Haruhi's frank response.
Haruhi smiled. "But I won't judge the type of lifestyle you want to live, so you don't have to worry about me telling anyone."
'Huh. She's really understanding.' Kagome pleasantly thought, but then she did a double take. "Wait! I don't…I'm not…dressed like this because of that. I'm being forced to do this! This isn't my choice." She tried to forcefully explain to her.
"How are you being forced to do this?" Haruhi calmly asked.
"Uh." She stuttered. "It's a long story."
Haruhi gave a small chuckle. "You seem to have a lot of long stories." She told her.
Kagome scratched the back of her head and started laughing along with her. "Yeah. I guess I do."
The school's bell rung again, this time signaling the end of the day.
"Alright class. Have a good day." Their last teacher of the day told them.
Before any of the other kids could even begin to pick up their bag, Kagome was already out the door.
'Fluffy. You better still be there or so help me I'll…ok. I don't know what I'll do, but it won't be good.' She thought to herself. Kagome violently opened the school's front door, not sure what to expect. She slowly walked over to the bush that he'd been beside during lunch and felt like a million pounds had just been lifted off of her. He was still quietly sitting where'd she'd left him. "Thank goodness." She said in relief. "You're still here." She bent down and, to Fluffy's pleasure, scratched his head. "You can move now." She said giving him permission.
He stood back up, as if he understood her, and wagged his tail.
"All I have to do is call Milo and have him pick you up so I can go look at clubs." She pulled her phone out of her pocket and dialed his number.
"Kagome?" He answered.
"Milo, I want you to come by the school and-"
"Oh great! You've come to your senses and decided that you want me to pick you up from school from now on instead of walking back home like you'd insisted before! Don't worry. I'll be right-"
"No." Kagome said.
There was silence on the other line for a second. "No what?"
"I want you to pick up my dog. He stowed-away in my bag and I need you to take him home for me." She explained to him.
"Oh." He said, obviously discouraged but he still made an attempt to sound normal.
"I'm sorry." She apologized. "But I still want to walk to and from school." She told him.
Kagome knew he didn't understand why she wanted to keep walking but she trusted he knew that she had her reasons. To put it simply, walking was great exercise and she liked the fresh air here. Somehow the air here felt cleaner than in Tokyo. Not to mention, riding in that car just to go to school seemed like a waste. She could easily walk the distance from Ouran to the Taisho residence. She'd rather use the car to go into town or something…then again, she probably wouldn't even use it for that either.
They finally ended their conversation and Kagome hung up, pocketing her phone again.
"Alright you trouble-maker" She turned around to where Fluffy had been. "It's time…? Fluffy?" She looked around and there was no sign of him anywhere around her. She tried to not panic and checked where she had last left him. In that same spot, there was a trail of small silver strands of fur leading back into the school.
'I didn't think shedding would be good for anything.' She thought. Kagome took off into the school, and the chase was on.
.`.`.`.`.`.`.`.`.`.`.`.`
She followed the trail of fur around the school. "He travels quick for such a little guy." She said, almost impressed but her feeling of irritation outweighed that emotion.
Suddenly, she came to a stop in the middle of the hallway. She'd noticed that the trail of fur was becoming thinner but now there was…nothing. No sign of where he had run off too. Her heart sank.
"Did you just see that dog walk pass?"
Kagome's ears perked up and she looked over to two girls talking with one another by the side of the wall. Kagome quickly walked up to them, taking them by surprise.
"I don't mean to interrupt." She kindly said. "But did you just say that you saw a dog walk pass here a few moments ago?"
The girl blushed and nodded. "Yeah. It was a cute white one."
'That's definitely him.' Kagome thought to herself. "Could you tell me where you saw him go?"
She nodded again and pointed to the right. "He went that way and went down the right corridor."
Kagome bowed to her. "Thank you for your help." She thanked her and took off down the hallway again.
"He was kind of cute." Her friend commented.
The girl who'd blushed turned to her. "Very."
.`.`.`.`.`.`.`.`.`.`.`.`
'As soon as I get my hands on you, I'm going to-' Kagome's thought was cut short when she saw a pair of familiar gold eyes staring at her all the way at the end of the hallway.
Her brisk sprint turned into a straight up run as she tried to capture him before he could run away again. But a pair of hands scooped him up before she could get him. She could tell it was a small blonde boy. She could also tell that she was running too fast to stop herself from smashing into him.
He looked up at her as she unwillingly ran to him and the next thing that happened was her forehead smashing into the wall in front of her.
She fell on her butt and held her forehead in pain. 'Ah. I guess it didn't hurt as much as I thought.' She thought.
She slowly stood back up again, using the wall to brace herself and looked to where the boy had been previously standing. He was 3 paces back from where'd she thought she'd seen him. But more importantly, she saw her Sesshomaru puppy being strangled to death in the boy's deadly hold in his arms.
She fought the urge to snicker. 'That's what you get.' She thought.
Now that she knew the whereabouts of her no-good dog, she was able to scan the area and the two people there.
First was the boy that she'd almost ran into. He was wearing the Ouran uniform despite the fact that he looked like a young grade schooler. What stuck out the most though was the strong aura he gave off. 'He's definitely a fighter. A strong one at that.' His strength rivaled that of Inuyasha's but she felt comfort knowing that it at least wasn't as strong as Sesshomaru's.
The second one on the other hand…. She slightly looked over at him. Where should she start?...The dude was fucking enormous!
'What type of food do you have to eat to get THAT tall?' She thought. He gave off a strong fighter's aura as well. Aside from his tallness, he seemed lean and had a very blank expression on his face. A face that rarely showed emotion. 'Heh. Wonder where I've seen that type of face before.' She thought, thinking about its similar characteristics to Sesshomaru's.
She looked back to the small boy. "Hey. I didn't hurt you at all, right?" She asked just to confirm.
"No. You missed me." He happily said.
She laughed. "Haha. That's good." Kagome said. 'Bullshit. You dodged me and you know it.' She thought, her mind saying the exact opposite of what her mouth was saying.
"Is this your dog? He's adorable!" He hugged the dog closer to him to the dismay of Fluffy as he furiously tried to escape.
Under normal circumstances, she'd feel sorry for the dog but she decided this would be his best punishment. If it came up to Kagome to do it herself she'd probably take pity on him with that cute face of his. 'I'll just let this boy do the work for me.' "Yeah. That's my dog." She answered him.
"Can I play with him?" He asked, smiling at her brightly.
"Uhh…" Although the boy was cute and Kagome usually gave into those types of faces, she didn't know what the boy's version of "play" meant.
Unexpectedly, the guy, who Kagome almost forgot was there, took Fluffy out of the boy's hands by the scruff of his neck and held him out to Kagome. She put both of her hands out and he plopped the dog into her hands.
Fluffy turned his head into Kagome's chest and got into a shivering ball.
'Maybe I overdid it with the punishment.' Kagome thought.
"Aww. But I wanted to play with the puppy." The boy whimpered.
"It's not your dog Mitsukuni." The tall guy said, that being the first sentence she'd heard from him the whole time.
She looked at the boy who seemed to be on the edge of tears. She really didn't want to see that cute face cry.
"It's just that, my dog is really nervous around other people and usually runs away from them. I'm just worried that if you play with him then he might try to run away again." She tried to explain to him.
He nodded to her as if he understood but he still looked like he was about to cry out.
"Uh…" She said aloud. "Do you like sweets by any chance?"
His face brightened up suddenly and a big smile formed on his face. His sunny aura had returned. "Uh-huh! Especially cake." He told her.
"Well, I don't have cake but I do have chocolate if that can suffice." She said.
"Really!? I can have some?" He looked at her as if she was the most amazing person in the world.
She gave a small smile. 'Poor boy. The girls must go crazy over his cuteness.' Kagome thought. She put her hand in her bag and pulled out a bar of chocolate. She squatted on the floor to hand it to him.
He excitedly took it and began unwrapping it but before he could stuff the thing in his mouth, he looked back up at Kagome again. "Are you new here?" He asked.
Kagome gave him a confused look. "How'd you know?"
He smiled. "All of us usually know all of the good-looking people in school." He told her.
While she was flattered by his "good-looking" statement, she had to wonder. 'What does he mean by "us"?'
"What's your name?" He asked, taking a bite of the chocolate.
"Kagome. Kagome Higurashi." She answered.
He smiled brighter. "My name's Mitsukuni but everyone calls me Honey. And this is Takashi." He gestured to the huge guy beside him. Mori gave her a blank look in return.
"Honey. That's a cute nickname." She told him and playfully ruffled his hair to which Mori gave a sliver of a smile to.
At that exact moment, two girls came walking around the corner and stopped when they saw the three boys socializing with one another. One of them, seeing the potential of the moment, quickly took a picture of them with her phone and hurried her friend to go back where'd they'd come from before they noticed. Heh. Man, the other girls were going to love this picture.
Kagome scooped up her bag with her hand and held Fluffy in the other. "It was nice meeting you but I've got to go." She waved back to them as she walked in the opposite direction.
The two guys looked at her as she left.
"He was nice." Honey stated.
Outside
"Don't worry. We'll keep a closer eye on him from now on." Milo apologized.
Kagome and Milo were outside by the limo. She was placing Fluffy in the back seat.
"It could have been worse." Kagome said, trying to make it sound like it wasn't that much trouble even though the dog had probably taken years off her life from worrying.
Milo nodded and got into the driver's seat. "If you need anything just call okay?"
Kagome gave a small sigh. "I will."
Milo nodded and she watched as he drove off. She turned back around to the school and took out the club sheet Haruhi had given her. 'I'm sure nothing can get worse than what's already happened today.' She told herself.
Author's Notes: I was going to have this chapter be part of the next chapter but then I realized how long this chapter was so I decided I would split it into two.
Important: I would also like to say that summer is ending and that I may not have a lot of free time but I've got a plan so I can still continue the story. There is no way I will forget about updating so don't worry about that.
See you next time.
