A/N: Its been a while since I last updated but I am back and I am updating, obviously XD Anywho, this chapter is a little different than the other's and focuses mainly on the smart guy of the trio, Eddward. This is just a short update so sorry if its short.

The Eds are about 5 in this one. So they are in Kindergarten.

Chapter 4: Letters in Lunchboxes.

Eddward 'Double Dee' stood in the silent kitchen that was his home. He was hard at work preparing a healthy lunch for his two companions and himself to take to lunch with them that school day. So far he had packed a thermos of milk, three cups, three apples, three granola bars (sugar free of course), a bag of stem-less grapes, three turkey sandwiches, and to top it off, three pieces of chocolate pudding pie for desert (It wasn't Edd's favorite but the rest of the Eds loved it).

"Now let me see." He muttered as he took inventory of the food and then thought. "Hmm... Now, why do I feel as though I am forgetting something?"

He stepped off of his stepstool and paced about the kitchen. Still, nothing came to mind. Figuring that he had only been imagining things, he went to get back up on the stool when something caught his eye. It was a little square sheet of yellow paper, stuck to the wall with a weak adhesive.

"Oh my! Must've missed one." Edd exclaimed as he quickly moved the stool over to the wall so that he could snatch the note and read it.

Dear Eddward,

On special request from Ed, I've made some fish-sticks for you to take to school for him.

It is on the kitchen table in the black lunch box.

-Love Mother.

P.S: There are notes for you and your friends in there as well. Have a good day.

"Fish-sticks?" Edd muttered outloud, and then smiled warmly. "Ed must have been doing his research on brain-food. Lovable oaf."

With that being said, he took a gander at the hanging clock and realized that he had about five minutes to finish up and get to the bus stop. Quickly hurrying to the counter, he closed the Science is Cool lunchbox he had and carefully placed it in his book bag, then he went to the kitchen table. Sure enough, there was a black lunch box just as his mother had said. He picked that up too, then adjusted his hat and rushed outside just in time for the bus to pull up.

"Good morning, Mrs. Howards." Edd greeted the bus driver, who in turn nodded her head at the little boy.

He found his friends at the back of the bus and carefully squeezed in between them and greeted them both with a smile and a 'good morning, gentlemen'. Eddy was leaning against the front of the seat in front of them and was seemingly sleeping, or at least trying to catch some more shut eye before classes. Ed on the other hand, was jumping on and down in his seat from what seemed to be either excitement or nervousness.

"Something the matter, Ed?" Double D asked in his gentle tone.

"Did she pack them, D?" Ed asked, not wasting a second in doing so.

"Yes she did, Ed." Double D said with a smile and then added, "And she has notes for us all as well."

Ed stopped bouncing and looked a little surprised. He wondered what Edd's smart mother had to say to him! She was probably going to tell him that he was stupid and even with all the fish sticks in the world would never be as smart as anyone. His heart sunk and so did his usual smile. He was still curious though, to know if he was right or not.

"C-Can I see the note, D?" Ed asked, poking his friend's tiny shoulder.

Meanwhile, Double D was already flipping through the three little notes in an attempt to find Ed's. All of the notes were written on different colored sheets. There was a green for Eddy, a blue one for Double D, and finally, a purple note was at the bottom of the pact for big Ed. Carefully, he removed the note and handed it to his friend and handed Eddy's to him. The notes read as followed:

Eddy,

Try to stay out of trouble young man.

I have an extra slice of pie waiting after school for you if you stay sweet.

-Mrs. Alexandria.

Eddy cringed and took a deep breath as he gulped. That woman knew him so well and knew just what to say to keep him in line. Edd giggled softly, covering his mouth to hide his gap toothed grin and then looked down at his own letter and began to read. Just like Eddy, his mother knew just what to say to keep them all in line.

Dear Eddward,

Try to keep Eddy out of trouble.

Also, I've spoken to Eddy and Ed's mother and a sleep over is just fine after school.

Be home at 4.

-Love mother.

Ed began to feel a little shaky and was unable to bring himself to look down at the letter just yet. Slowly, he took a deep breath and began to look down at the message. It was written in neatly printed lines that curled a little bit at the end. Carefully, he began to read.

Dear Ed,

You are such a sweet little boy. I packed the fish especially for you.

Good luck in your quest to become smarter and get all As this year,

though I feel that you are not to far away from achieving this.

I believe in you and we are all rooting for you, sweety :)

See you at the sleep over and have a good day at school.

-Aunt Alexandria.

Ed's smile was suddenly back in full swing as he hugged the note close to his chest and refused to let any of the other Ed's read it. This was his special note from an outside source who helped to renew his urge to succeed. Upon arriving at school, he made a special place in his jacket to place the note, which was on the inside of his left sleeve where he would always have quick access to it. He carefully read through it one more time before sitting down in his seat. The first lesson of the day was spelling and Ed was the first to raise his hand. He was also the first to spell the word correctly.
