So this is the end of my TrueBlood story! It's very short, but I feel like Godric and Kaie's story is better short and bubbly than long, serious, and drawn out!
Read and review! (:
I fell asleep very late, unable to calm my running mind. Usually, I could turn on a boring documentary and I'd be out like a light, but tonight was different. My stomach didn't feel right, not cramps, but just unease. I popped some Tums and snuggled into bed.
My sleep was restless, until around 5:00 in the morning. Someone was banging on my hotel door so hard that the wood was quaking. As I stumbled towards the door, one of the knocks was so powerful that the wood splintered straight down the middle. Nervous that the door would fall apart and crush me, I cautiously unlocked and opened the door, ready to unleash hellfire upon whoever decided to wake me.
There was no one at my door, once again, but the sound of banging made me stick my head out into the hallway. Facing away from me was Eric, Godric's son, dressed in a pair of black sweatpants and a black undershirt. My mind was still fogged by sleep, and it took me a moment to realize that the banging noise was coming from Eric.
Who was banging his head against the wall.
"Eric…" I said, stepping out into the hall. "Uhh...what are you doing? Is this a new fad?"
Eric froze when he heard my voice and slowly turned to face me. I blinked and my brow rose when I took a good look at the gigantic man's face. Blood was dripping from his nose, and his eyes were dripping blood, as if he was crying.
"It's Godric." Eric said stoically, as if he hadn't just been slamming his head against the wall like a toddler having a meltdown.
"Godric started the head-banging fad?" I asked, leaning against my doorframe. "And I thought I was strange."
"No!" Eric shouted, looking so furious that I took a timid step back into my hotel room. "It's Godric! He's gone to meet the sun!"
"He has another son?" I asked, not comprehending why this was making Eric act so strangely. Then again, I don't know Eric that well. Maybe ever early Monday morning was his 'bang my skull into the wall' days.
"No!" Eric roared again. "He's gone to die! To meet the sun!"
I felt shock spiral in my chest. Meet the sun? As in the giant ball of gas in the sky? I quickly exited my room and approached Eric, who was still silently crying. I placed my hand on his icy shoulder, surprised when he didn't immediately jerk away.
"Where is he? On the roof?" I asked quickly. Based on my watch, it was close to sunrise. Eric nodded, his head bowing so low that his chin touched his well-toned chest.
"We've got to stop him." I said obviously, earning a scowl from the Vampire.
"I've tried. He's sent me away." Eric said, as another volley of bloody tears cascaded down his cheeks.
"I've got to try then." I whispered, pulling away from the distraught Vampire and gunning it down the hall. My bare toes seemed to smack into every table leg, food cart, and corner that I passed, as if to mock me. I made it to the stairs and raced up the seemingly never-ending flights. By the time I reached the roof, I was out of breath and gasping for air.
Godric stood at the precipice of the roof with his white shirt open; revealing pale, tattooed perfection. I put my hands on my knees and bent over, trying to catch my breath. The dark haired Vampire looked at me with a raised brow and a small smirk on his face.
"What…what's up?" I gasped, standing up and taking a few more deep breaths.
"The sun, soon to be in the sky." Godric answered solemnly.
"Then you should be inside." I said, feeling confident enough to step closer to the ancient being. Godric shook his head, glancing up at the lightening sky.
"I can't," Godric whispered. "I have to leave."
"Then let's go somewhere else." I said, standing beside him at the edge of the colossal building. "I hear that Costa Rica is nice this time of year."
Godric chuckled; a deep tinkling sound that warmed by insides and made me smile. I couldn't imagine that someone like him would want to end his life. He was so magnificent and there was still so much that he hasn't done!
"Godric, you can't die." I sighed. "You still have a lot to do! Like…travel the world!"
"I have been around the globe many times, Kaie."
"What about learning a few languages?"
"I have learned more languages than one can imagine possible." Godric answered, gazing out into the cityscape.
"Fallen in love?" I managed to squeak out, feeling myself blush. Godric turned his head to assess me, a small smile on his face.
"Maybe I could…in another life." He answered.
"Why not in this life?" I asked, making the Vampire fall silent.
"Come with me." I whispered, grabbing tightly onto Godric's hand. "Papa can teach you. He's been alive since forever! He can show you how he adapted. You can grow!"
Godric was quiet, and he seemed to be complementing my words. I could see the hints of the sun's first rays in the horizon, and I knew I didn't have much time left. I knew that I wasn't in love with Godric, but I felt that we had a connection. Something that could easily become love if it was nurtured and given the proper time.
"I am afraid." Godric admitted.
"Of changing?" I asked, not understanding.
"Of living." Godric said with a shaky breath. "Of…trying to love."
We stared at each other, our eyes gazing deeply into each other's. I took the first step towards him and wrapped my arms around his waist in a gentle hug. Godric's arms slowly snaked around my shoulders and pressed me against his chest.
"I am too." I said, feeling his cold chest against my hot cheek. I felt something hot roll down my skin, and I was surprised to find that I was crying.
"Will you…stay with me?" Godric asked, holding me tighter. "I feel, dare I say, happy in your company. No one has made me smile such as you."
"I'm glad I can make you feel that way." I whispered, leaning up. Godric smiled at me and craned his neck downwards. Before I could close my eyes, Godric had pressed his chilly pink lips against mine. I mentally grimaced when I realized that I hadn't brushed my teeth before bed, or before I rushed up here.
Poor Godric.
As our kiss ended and we slowly separated, I felt Godric pick me up and cradle me to his chest. Wind whipped through my hair as we entered the safety of the hotel. The door to the roof locked shut behind us just as the first deadly ray of sun pierced the sky.
"That was a close call." I murmured, smiling up at Godric. "We're lucky we got inside."
"I wouldn't worry about it." Godric answered with a smile. "I don't see ourselves having to worry about too much anymore."
"Oh, really? Why?" I asked cheekily as Godric began to descend the multiple flights of stairs to our floor.
"Because I've got a well-trained body guard." Godric answered, mimicking my words from a few weeks ago. "And she's the most beautiful guard I've ever have been lucky enough to know."
Smiling, I slugged Godric on the shoulder. I knew that our friendship was new, only a few weeks old, and our love was just sprouting, but I have a feeling that we can make it. Godric is strong enough to push past his depression and I'm strong enough to help him.
I'm more worried about how to explain this to Papa…
