Chapter 4 – The Ties That Bind

"But daddy we have to!"

"Lily, I already told we can't." Brian argued with his 6 year old daughter.

"Daddy, I want them to sign my cast!" Lily replied.

After leaving the Torreto's house the two O'Conner's went straight to the hospital to get Lily's arms checked. After almost five hours the two walked out of the ER with a brand new white cast one her left wrist and seven stiches on her right arm. After stopping in the pharmacy to get the pain meds, the two went straight home. It took a while to get Lily to sleep, the memories still fresh in her mind.

There the oldest got a call from his boss, it was quite simple message, he knew, knew that the Toretto team had rescued Lily and that Brian had gotten rid of all the evidence. After that call, the blonde father didn't think twice before starting to pack what was necessary. In other words, what would feet in the trunk of the supra.

After having finally finished packing, Brian started to prepare breakfast, doing everything that was his daughter's favorite. When she woke up, the two had a wonderful breakfast, however as soon as Lily pronounced she was done, Brian packed the rest of the food for the road, while she went to the bathroom to clean herself.

Once inside the car, Lily tried her best to get her dad to agree. But Brian had listened to Dom when he had said he wanted O'Conner gone, so he tried to argue with his daughter. After 15 minutes, Lily finally convinced her father, after all, nobody can resist her puppy look.

"Fine, but after they have signed your cast we are leaving." Brian dictated. He knew that Dom didn't want him anywhere near, but after everything, Brian believed they would spare a few minutes just to sign Lily's cast.

Once outside the Torreto's house the driver honked once, he wasn't sure he was welcomed inside, and he preferred not to find out while he had Lily in his arms. He waited leaned against the car. Lily was still inside, setting on her booster seat.

Dom was the only one to come outside, before he had the chance to kick Buster's ass, the blond one stated "Lily got a cast in the hospital, and she was hoping that her saviors would do the honor of signing them." Dom didn't say anything before turning around and going back inside. "I tried baby girl, sorry. It's time for us to go." Brian tried to reassure his daughter from the open window of the car.

The little girl's face was quite devastating, she was really hoping that her heroes would sign her cast.

Brian started to go around the car when he was called. "Hey, O'Conner, I thought we were going to sign a cast." When the blonde turned around he saw everyone, except Lance, in the porch, and each had a pen in their hands.

"Yaaay!" Most likely everyone in the street had heard Lily's cheer. The father carefully got his daughter out of the car while everyone came down the stairs. Being careful her injuries, Brian positioned her in his arms so that they could sign the cast without putting too much pressure on her arm.

The first to sign was Jesse, the second was Letty, and after she was done she gave Lily a kiss and then went back to the house. Mia didn't just sign her name on the cast, she drew hearts and bunnies and smiling faces. The little girl gave the youngest Torreto a warm hug as a thank you. Back in her father's arms, Vince signed, and then Dom. The oldest Torreto didn't draw hearts and bunnies like his sister, but not wanting to be just another name, he decided to color the 'D' and the 'O' and color the background of where he had written.

"Okay, well, it's time to go Lily, say bye and thank you to them all." Brian ordered. Lily said thank you to everyone, before she started to wave her hand towards them. Brian put her back inside the Supra and closed the door, the window was still opened so Mia took the opportunity to give Lily one last hug and kiss, while Brian went talk to Dom. "My boss called, they know, they have footage of you and the team at the warehouse. They can't arrest you for the truck robbery but then can for what happened in the warehouse, you need to go. I'm sorry, I didn't know they had cameras. I'm going too, they know that I was the one that got rid of the evidence, don't worry they don't know about Mia." Brian wasn't expecting a reply from Dom, Vince or Jesse, who were standing behind the Torreto, he also wasn't expecting the hand offered by the eldest.

O'Conner took the offering hand and with the small shake also gave them a nod, a smile and a 'thank you'. They didn't need Brian to say he what he was thankful for, because they knew. They knew he was grateful to them for saving his baby girl, for looking out for her when he couldn't, for signing her cast even though they owed him nothing. Brian went to talk to Mia, but before he could all five of them heard the motorcycles.

Everything seemed to go in slow motion, as the bikes got closer Brian and Dom saw the guns in their hands. But Jesse and Vince weren't so lucky. Brian screamed for his daughter to put her head down before he dived on top of Mia, dropping them both to the ground. It was the second that they hit the ground that the shooting started. Dom, from the ground, saw two of his brothers fall.

When the bikes rode off, Dom, Brian and Mia got up, while the sibling went to check on their fallen team mates, the father checked on his daughter. There seemed to be no new scratches on her, which allowed the oldest O'Conner to breathe in relief. He tried to calm his daughter cries, but it seemed not possible. When he looked around he realized the seen, Jesse was all bloody in Mia's arms, dead, judging by her cries, and Vince seemed to be trying to say something to Dom, who was applying pressure on a gun shoot wound in the abdomen, letty was by his side, holding the wounded's hand. Brian fished his cellphone from his pocket to call for the ambulance.

"5 minutes!" Brian shouted to Dom, the oldest Torreto gave him a calculating look before instructing Letty to put pressure on Vince's wound. With one last glance towards Jesse, Dom took off to his Dodge Charger. Brian, hesitated a bit because of the little girl in his arms, before handing Lily over to Mia, getting inside the Supra and following Dom.

"I owe you a ten second car." Brian stated. The oldest Torreto nodded at him, before turning his back on the blond cop. O'Conner saw him getting in the car and driving off, before turning around towards the sound of the sirens.
