Remus arrived at Grimmauld Place twenty minutes before the Order's meeting was to start. He entered the old house, wandered down the dusty hallway, and was nearly knocked over by Molly, running around the house, making sure everything was "perfect" when the rest of the Order arrived. He noticed the familiar voice of his childhood friend recanting old school stories that undoubtedly included him in some capacity.

Remus came into the kitchen to see that most of the Order was seated around the large table in the center, chatting and drinking. He took a seat near the vacant end of the table and took a glass, filling it halfway with firewhiskey. Sirius sat down next to him and took the bottle from his hand and refilled his own cup. "Remus, how are you doing?"

"I'm just peachy," Remus replied as he took a long swig of his firewhiskey.

"Remus, I've known you a long time. And I know when something, apart from that little furry friend that visits every month," Sirius said with a wink, which Remus returned with an eye roll, " is on you're mind. Come on and tell your oldest mate what's troubling you." Sirius ended with an 'oh-so-charming' grin, to which Remus again merely rolled his eyes and took another drink.

"And Sirius, I've known you for a very long time. Not once have I ever come to you with problems of a serious matter, especially those of the heart." Remus froze when he realized what he had admitted to. He glanced down at his drink and wondered if it was the firewhiskey doing the talking for him.

"Oh my, a matter of the heart you say? Intrigue. Who might this lucky lady be? Or man, I suppose, I don't discriminate." Sirius flashed a cheeky grin once again. Remus couldn't believe he was actually considering having this conversation with Sirius, but who else was he going to discuss it with?

"There's this young woman at work who just started, nothing more nothing less." Remus confessed, taking a swig of firewhiskey. "Just a mild fascination is all." He hoped their conversation would end there, but he knew better.

"Well please do tell more about this woman with whom you have a 'mild fascination' with, Mooney." Sirius was grinning, taking far too much delight in Remus' clear discomfort over the discussion.

"It's nothing really, she's just—" Remus was interrupted by a small commotion by the kitchen doorway. Molly was helping a woman with brown hair up after tripping on her way in. "A new member to the Order?" Remus inquired, shooting a raised eyebrow in Sirius' direction. A grin appeared on Sirius' face as he stood up from the table.

"There's someone I want you to meet," he said wistfully. His smile grew as he headed toward the door. Remus still couldn't see the woman's face and wondered how Sirius might know her. He finished his drink and put his head in his hands, massaging his temples. After rubbing his eyes, he returned his attention to the reunion by the kitchen entrance.

"Sirius!" the woman had exclaimed before embracing Sirius, who had outstretched arms.

"Ah my favorite cousin."

Cousin? Remus began to think of what he knew of Sirius' family; he was under the impression he had been estranged from everyone in his immediate family. His thoughts caused his gaze to wander to the opposite side of the room, taking his view away from the approaching duo.

"Mooney, I would like to introduce you to my favorite cousin, Nymphadora Tonks." At the mention of a familiar name, Remus' attention was called back to his longtime friend.

"Honestly Sirius, I've told you never to call me tha-" She stopped midsentence noticing Remus' gaze, her cheeks flushing as the tips of her hair changed to match. Remus looked in disbelief at Tonks, a million thoughts running through his head. "Oh Remus, hi. I, uh, didn't know you would be here." Sirius glanced from Tonks to Remus and back again, a look of confusion on his face.

"You two know each other?" Sirius questioned.

"Yes, we've met. I just started working with Remus' auror team a couple of weeks ago," she said, tucking a strand of her scarlet tipped hair behind her ear. Sirius again looked between the two of them, putting the pieces together and grinning directly at Remus.

"Well, Tonks, why don't you come sit with us? I have to go ask Kingsley something, I'll be right back." Sirius chuckled quietly to himself as he left the two alone. Tonks was still standing, a mere look between herself and Remus.

"Please have a seat," Remus offered hastily, breaking out of his momentary shock, motioning towards the bench to his right. Tonks nodded and sat down, her hands in her lap, her hair returning fully to brown. She was clearly nervous, her whole body rather tense. Remus noted the deviation from the usual bright red hue she sported. "What's with the brown?" he asked rather pointedly, clearly on edge.

Tonks seemed taken aback by the direct question. "What do you mea—Oh the hair," she said gesturing to her locks. "Just trying out something new I guess."

"Well, if you don't mind me saying, I don't think this color suits you," Remus said sheepishly, running his fingers around the rim of his empty glass.

Tonks let out a small laugh and her body seemed to relax slightly. "Yeah, well, you're not wrong. " She glanced over her shoulder at the rest of the Order beginning to gather at the entryway. "I was worried I wasn't going to be taken seriously with bright crazy hair. I thought this looked more… professional."

Remus returned her laugh with a cheerful scoff. "Well, as you can see by my attire, I'm not too concerned with what others think of my appearance," he said gesturing to his tattered and worn suit, weathered from years of wear and plenty of full moon cycles. Tonks laughed, a little heartier this time, and smiled at Remus.

"I'd keep it just the way you like it," Remus mentioned. "No use in worrying what others think, you should be comfortable with who you are." Remus couldn't help but think that he should apply this own logic to his personal situation, but he let the thought drift from his head.

Tonks straightened up a bit and shook out her hair. It began to change from the roots, slowly and then all at once. The dark brown began to transform, until suddenly her whole head was a deep, but vibrant purple. Remus grinned.

"Oh, so we're going with purple now, are we?"

"This is the color I'm most comfortable in," she mused, looking at her hair out of the corner of her eye. She seemed to have a newfound confidence with the change in color. "My hair tends to have a mind of its own though, sometimes."

"Oh? How so?"

"Well, it will change with my mood," Tonks explained. "Sometimes, without me even knowing." She propped her head up on her hand and leaned in a little closer to Remus, almost as a reflex to the amiable conversation. "Like when I'm sad, it'll get dark and ashen."

"And the red?'' Remus asked, referring to her choice of work appropriate hair.

"Determined," she answered matter-of-factly. "It tends to lean that end of the spectrum when I'm angry as well." She laughed. Remus couldn't help but notice the glimmer in her eyes when she laughed. He quite liked that about her.

"I was quite a fan of the shade of pink I saw last week," Remus recollected, thinking back to their encounter in the elevator. This slipped out before he could think twice about it, the firewhiskey clearly calling some of the shots now. Tonks raised an eyebrow, giving him a puzzling look.

"When was my hair pink?" she questioned, seeming to grow more confused by the second. Remus smiled, wondering if her hair had told him something she had not yet come to comprehend.

"Oh, my mistake," Remus chuckled, turning his attention to the Order, who seemed to all be gathering at the table to begin the meeting. Tonks just stared at Remus, her interest piqued, racking her brain for answers.
