Chapter 4
Opposite to Nohr, the Hoshidan Capital was more of a traditional city. Which reminded Dante of cities in East Asia. Corrin and Dante could see a tall structure that they only could assume as Castle Shirasagi. It was seemingly the same size of Castle Krakenburg back in Nohr. The Hoshidan Capital was spread out around a large, separated mountain and Shirasagi was located atop of it.
To Corrin's surprise it was flooded with life, merchants were selling food and tools while children were playing on the streets. The atmosphere was full of joy. As most of the people she saw had a smile on their face. But of course, Dante and Corrin drew a lot of attention that caused the Hoshidans to give them odd stares.
Dante noticed the looks he was receiving from the people around. Glances of curiosity and malice. He decided to ignore them, but unfortunately, they got to Corrin. She was hesitant as she approached Castle Shirasagi, looking up to the massive building.
Where Krakenburg was safely situated beneath the earth, Shirasagi was protected by nature in its own way, since there was almost no way how Corrin could see for any army to approach the castle except for the long pathway.
"It's quite the view." Dante whistled.
Kaze grinned, during the journey Corrin found that she quite liked the green-haired ninja. They were close to the same age and Kaze was very kind to her, despite being Nohrian. Rinkah who had tagged along, frowning a majority of the trip and answering any questions with annoyed tone. And Dante who kept to asking questions about certain things they came across, that drew Rinkah nuts.
"Wait until you see the view from the top." Kaze chuckled. "On a clear day you can observe all of Hoshido."
Corrin grinned looking up to the gigantic castle more thoroughly. She was torn between thinking what the scenery from the top would look like.
Kaze stepped forward, hinting Corrin, Dante and Rinkah to stay back. Around the gates of the castle were trees that were blossoming with bright pink petals. The four of them approached the massive gates to the castle's courtyard, Castle Shirasagi above them blocking out the sky with its massive size.
The Hoshidans gave them entrance and were, quickly escorted to the throne room by a squad of Hoshidans guards.
Corrin stepped through the throne room with her head held high, ignoring the looks she was getting from the nobles standing around the edges of the room. The throne room on its on was as big of that back in Nohr, perhaps even bigger. Great red arches held the roof, the ceiling painted to match the white sky.
Ahead of her on the throne sat the Queen. Beside her two men stood, one who seemingly was about the same height as Xander wearing red armor and the other in grey robes who pushed is glasses back up his nose when Corrin and Dante caught his interest.
The Queen frowned as she rose to her feet. Her white robes were dazzling. Never in her life had Corrin seen clothing like it. They were white, accented with a blue interior and though she looked old she aged far better than King Garon has.
"Leave us." She motioned with her hand.
Without any hesitation the gathered nobles and guards bowed before turning and exiting the spacious room except for Corrin's group. The Queen and the two men were standing on the dais. The Queen than turned and whispered something to the one in grey robes, who nodded. After a moment the man bowed and departed from the room, but not before giving Corrin one last glance.
The Queen gave Corrin a weird ambience, she got weird memory flashes whenever she looked at her.
The man in red armor stepped down from the dais, his hair was brown and spiky almost making look like a hedgehog. He kept a stern expression on his face, that had a strange shaped headgear that paired well with his armor. And lastly a kitana that hung around his waist.
"Welcome back, Kaze." The man said. "Good work and Lady Rinkah it's nice to see you again."
Kaze nodded and knelt, but Rinkah snorted while folding her arms looking at him.
"Thank you, Lord Ryoma." Kaze said.
Lord Ryoma? He's supposed to be the prince; this guy looks like real life hedgehog. Dante laughed in his head.
Corrin steeled her nerves and looked up to man the armored, the Hoshidan Queen carefully watching from behind.
"Prince Ryoma." She began. "I apologize for not visiting under better circumstances. I've come say my side for violating the peace treaty. I only ask of you to hear me out. Then you can do what you desire." Ryoma nodded.
"That won't be necessary, Corrin." He said his stern look turning into a grin.
Corrin's brow furrowed, but before she could respond the Queen left the dais to stand before her.
"I can't believe it is really you." The Queen said hesitate.
Corrin blinked, smiling awkwardly.
"I'm sorry I don't think we've me-"
She trailed off when she saw tears running down the Queen's face. She stepped forward and embraced Corrin.
"Oh, I've missed you so much!" She said between sobs. "Corrin, my sweet child!"
"Wow!" Corrin said, stepping away. "I think you're confused with someone else. My name is Corrin one of the Princesses of Nohr-"
"Is that what they told you?" Ryoma, cut her off. "Is that the lie they told."
"What? No, of course not!" She snapped.
"They held you as their prisoner." Ryoma said. "You were abducted as a child. You're a Princess of Hoshido, you're my sister."
Corrin blinked a couple of times, looking back and forth between The Queen and Ryoma.
"I don't even know your name." She said turning to the Queen.
The Queen stepped forward, shushing Corrin and smiled.
"My name is Mikoto." She said. "Corrin, I'm… Your mother-"
"Lies" Corrin shouted, taking a few steps back. "Stop trying to deceive me! I came to apologize for breaking the treaty and I've done that! Execute if you must, but just… stop-"
Corrin doubled over, holding her head.
"Stop it with your lies!" She snarled, dropping on her knees.
A wave of pain struck her head, blurring her vision and making it seem that she was about to faint at any second. What were they saying it made no sense…They had to be lies right? There would be no other logical explanation. King Garon was her father and Xander, Leo, Camilla and Elise were her siblings. These had to be lying to her for some reason…
A cool, sensation spread through her head, easing the pain. Corrin realized that Mikoto placed her hand on her head and kneeled in front of Corrin. The sensation emanated from Mikoto's hand she resisted the urge to slap her hand away, which would likely be causing her to pass out.
Mikoto's presence was confusing, yet she calmed her, but she couldn't bring herself to trust her. Yet, something deep within, Corrin shrugged it off.
"Calm down" Mikoto said gently. "Please ease yourself."
Corrin let out a sigh, when Mikoto leaned away the pain was gone from her head. She glanced at the Queen curiously, none of the frustration and anger remained.
"What did you do to me?" Corrin asked.
"I dispelled a curse." Mikoto smiled softly. "Or rather a small part."
"You don't have to believe us immediately." Ryoma who had joined Mikoto and Corrin. "But… gives us a chance, there's something here that may help yo-"
Before Mikoto could finish she was interrupted by somebody's voice.
"Hey, I don't really what to fuck up your family reunion. But, Kaze here said something you guys could help me with." Dante said, making all focus their attention on him.
"I had been meaning to ask who you are, but I suppose now is as good time as any." Ryoma said, looking at Dante intently.
Dante was about to reply, but Kaze beat him to the punch.
"Lord Ryoma, this is Dante." He motioned towards Dante. "He helped us escape Nohr when we were taken prisoner."
This raised Both Ryoma- and Queen Mikoto's eyebrows. "Really, now?" Ryoma replied.
"Yes, if it weren't for him I'm afraid me and Rinkah wouldn't be standing here in front of you." Kaze gave Dante a glance.
He hesitated to say the last part, signaling him to continue.
"So, I know this is hard to believe, but I'm not from around here." The Devil Hunter said. "I'm from another world, a place called Earth."
The Hoshidan royalty gave bewildered looks along with Corrin.
"What madness is this? Ryoma retorted. His expression displaying doubt.
"I sort of jumped through a portal woke up in a cell where Kaze and Rinkah were held in and poof! Here we are." Dante said nonchalantly.
Ryoma's eyes narrowed and took a few steps closer to Dante. "You say were captured by the Nohrians, but what if you're some Nohrian spy send to infiltrate our lands."
Silence filled the room all eyes focused on the Devil Hunter.
"Look man." Dante gave a deadpanned look. "I look different. I use weapons you guys never seen. Use mannerisms that you never heard of and I did just appear outta nowhere."
"While that may be so, it could also mean that you are just from another advanced nation. Do you have something more… tangible?" Mikoto asked.
As soon Mikoto finished her sentence Dante reached for his holster, Ryoma remained cautious keeping a hand on his sword while Mikoto waited patiently. He pulled out Ivory and held it visible to see. Immediately Corrin reminiscent the object she saw before.
That's the same thing he used a few days ago. Corrin thought inspecting Ivory.
"What is tha-" Ryoma pointed to the strange object. It was a nicely curved silver object.
"It's an advanced bow and arrow from my world, it's a gun really, but bow and arrow makes it easier to understand." Dante massaged his temples. "Fuck sake, my weapons are getting even more introductions than myself."
Ryoma turned back to the supposed outworlder. "And what if you're story is a lie? If you can't prove it-"
"Lord Ryoma." Kaze bowed before Ryoma. "I put my trust in Dante he has helped a great deal. He's trustworthy and he's not a bad fighter." Both Mikoto and Ryoma were deep in thought about Kaze told about the foreign man in front of them.
"Very well." Queen Mikoto nodded in approval. "I will agree with you Kaze. He has helped you on your journey back to Hoshido so it is only fitting that we express our gratitude. She said smiling.
"Well thanks… Your majesty? Am I saying, that right?" Dante scratched the back of his head. "Because we don't really have royalty back where I'm from."
A country without royalty? Very interesting… Queen Mikoto thought.
"If mother is in favor, suppose I must agree as well. Dante was it?" Ryoma asked, getting a nod from Dante. "Please accept the welcome hospitality of Castle Shirasagi and Hoshido, Dante."
Well, I didn't expect it to go this smooth guess lucks on my side this time around. Dante thought.
Just then the doors of the Throne room opened, a soldier hurried in.
"Not now!" Ryoma shouted.
The soldier ignored Ryoma, immediately kneeling in front of the Queen.
"Queen Mikoto, I bring urgent news! The Northern Villages are under attack!"
"Curses, Hinoka and Sakura are still up there." Ryoma growled, as he curled his hands into fists. "Fine timing as always…"
"Y-yes milord." The soldier stuttered. "They've been helping to evacuate the villagers."
"Very well. We'll need to provide support." The Queen said. "Ryoma." She turned to her son.
"Of course." The prince nodded. "I'll leave immediately. Kaze, Rinkah, Corrin join me. You too Dante if what Kaze said is true you know how to swing that sword of yours and we'll need all the help right now."
Seriously, we just got here and were already going back out. Dante sighed
Corrin just stood there for a few seconds. It was a lot for here to take in.
"Okay, stop!" She shouted. "All of a sudden I'm lunged into battle alongside you!? Who's attacking, why does it concern me!?
"Isn't it obvious?" Ryoma said. "It's Nohr, they are attacking us. Come and see the truth with your own eyes if you don't believe us.
As they approached the northern village, Corrin looked at the burning mountain village. The village itself was similar like the Flame tribe village, but smaller and a little bit more rustic. Or at least what remained of the village.
"Where are the people?" She asked over the blowing wind.
"Probably hiding in the mountains." Kaze shouted over his shoulder.
Corrin nodded, looking for Ryoma in the front of the group. The others following behind him. Ryoma peeked over his shoulder.
"I've spotted the villagers to the east!" Ryoma shouted, his voice carrying through the wind. "Hinoka and Sakura shouldn't be far! Follow me!
With that they all increased their pace, forcing themselves through the strong wind. As they drew closer to the village Corrin could see the damage that was wreaked upon the village and it made her nauseous. Homes where trampled and set on fire, smoke flooding through the Hoshidan buildings.
"Kaze!" Ryoma called through the wind. "That village over there, I want you go there and evacuate as many people as you can and return as soon as possible"
"Yes, milord." Kaze replied, breaking into a run.
"Be wary Corrin this a treacherous region for battle. It's important to avoid troublesome areas." Ryoma said.
"Right." She replied drawing Ganglari. In the distance Corrin spotted a gray creature, it had a strange steel mask concealing its face, it's chest and arms were covered in shackles and wore a little piece of cloth.
So, these things came back. Dante thought.
"Hold strong sisters I'm coming you!" Ryoma cried out, Drawing his sword
Charging head first into battle. He leaped toward a one of the lone creatures slicing into its middle, before it could react, he was already on its other side and followed it up with another slash. The creature was finished, and it dissolved into black mist.
"Well, I guess he can take care of himself." Dante eyed both Rinkah and Corrin. "I'm gonna take care of the other Hulk rejects you guys help Ryoma." He said, as he ran at the gathered creatures.
"Hulk… Rejects?" Corrin looked at Rinkah, hoping she knew what he meant. Rinkah simply shook her head.
"Don't bother with him probably an outworlder's slang."
He ran into the opposite direction Ryoma had gone. He reached for Rebellion as the group of creatures began to charge him. There were a total of eight each looked almost as if they were copies of the first and all just as big. Dante turned his head, stretching out his neck muscles as he took a few steps backwards. Just like before he was fighting them this would be a breeze.
He didn't wait to give the creatures chance to attack him, as he tossed himself at out with his sword at their legs. Six of the creatures stumbled to the side as Rebellion struck into their legs, but the remaining two managed to avoid his strike. He turned, lunging with the tip of his sword through the heart of one of the creatures before it could bring its shackled arms up in defense and as Demon hunter turned it was already dissolving into mist. He hacked downwards, cutting easily through the arm of the next creature in a spray of black sand before jamming her sword up beneath the thing's mask and through its throat.
Before Dante could turn something grabbed onto his leg in a tight grip and with wide eyes, he forgot about the ones he wounded. His field of view turned upside down as he flung through the air, sent crashing into to ground by one of the creatures.
"You, cheeky fuck." He cussed. "Wanna play it rough?!"
Taking the initiative back Dante darted forward again, surprising the slower creature and running it through with his sword, making quick work of the other wounded creatures in the same manner.
After finishing the last ones Dante simply sheathed rebellion. The same monsters he fought at the cave were also here, which could mean that person controlling them send them to earth. Just thinking of the possibility made him exhale out loud.
"Well, standing here ain't gonna do nothin'." He muttered.
He took a moment to check his surroundings, to his right was a hill that lead upward. He ascended the hill blocking out the ray of sunlight with his hand, reaching the peak got him a wide view of the snowy field. In the distance Dante spotted a girl being ganged up by the Hulk rejects.
The group of creatures surrounded the girl she had reddish hair and wore a white kimono, clutching a short staff. She was trembling out of fear as the creatures closed the gap with each step, all of them growling viscously.
The girl gulped. "I-I'm not scared of you… As long as big sister is near me." She said still shaking, deep down she knew this wasn't in her area of capabilities, but before she could react one of the creatures lunged at her punching the pour girl against a tree.
She struggled getting back on her feet she gazed up seeing the assembled creatures ready to tear her to shreds. Fear took hold of her as tears started to form.
No… The girl cried, she didn't want to die. She couldn't run away, she sprained her ankle earlier and her older sister Hinoka was nowhere close by. One of the creatures lifted its fist to bash her skull in.
"NO! Please help me big brother!" She exclaimed, closing her eyes as tight as she could. Expecting the creature to end it all, just as its fist came down a loud sound stopped it.
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
That was the only sound that echoed across the seemingly empty snow field a gun smoking at the barrel. The creature's corpses slowly turning itself into black mist.
"Yo kid! You okay'!" A voice called.
Sakura slowly opened her eyes until she looked up to see man, who offered his hand to help her up. She took it allowing herself to get pulled up. He was dressed in a red shirt with black lines, black trousers, and black combat boots. He also wore a black leather hooded coat.
"T-thank you for saving me saving me." She whispered quietly.
Dante smiled, even though he wasn't into cutesy stuff he had to admit that girl looked adorable but that was a secret he would tell no one.
"Yeah, No probs kiddo." There was an awkward silence the only thing that was heard was the wind that blew past them.
She isn't the talk type huh…?
So, What's your name kid." Dante asked, the timid looking girl.
"M-my name is S-Sakura." She replied, averting her eyes shyly. Sakura...! Wasn't that one of Ryoma's sisters' names he tried to recall not sure if had been. He simply eyed the girl up and down, she looked more like a priestess than a princess.
Though anyone could be fooled if they never saw or heard of the royal family themselves, still Dante needed to be sure otherwise he'd be going on a wild goose chase and that was something he didn't want, he tried asking something else.
"Hey…" Dante called out to Sakura. "Does the name Ryoma ring any bells?" Sakura's head immediately perked up.
"Y-yes he is my older brother." She said.
Dante was dumbfounded at the girls reply. Somebody Prince Ryoma was looking for came to him instead. Luck really seemed to be on his side today.
"Well, Sakura my name's Dante." He said pointing himself. "I came with your brother… sort of. I don't know it's kinda hard to explain." He tried to explain not sounding like an idiot in the process. She'd could at least understand what was trying to say.
"Anyways, we should get back to the village I'm sure- "
"Sakura!" Both heard somebody shout her name out loud. Dante glanced in all directions. A bit away he could see a white horse flying in their direction. He could see the mount carrying a person on its back
They have Pegasus's here, well I'll be damned. Dante thought.
As she approached them her mount landed in front of them, immediately sliding of the winged horse running up to Sakura. The woman in question had short red hair, wearing a light red tunic, her only armor were the pauldrons on her shoulders, carrying a spear like weapon made from steel.
"Sakura, are you unhurt?" She asked.
"Yes." Sakura replied looking down. The woman held a hand on her chest and exhaled.
"Thank the heavens." The redhead said, she then turned to the Devil Hunter. Her expression turning into a scowl.
"You."
Dante blinked, did he do something wrong? Because he sure as hell didn't get the memo.
"Were you trying to hurt Sakura." She pointed her spear like weapon at Dante.
Excuse me?
"Hinoka, you c-can't say that!" Sakura interjected, standing in between the two. "Dante rescued me from the Faceless." She said. Hinoka took a step back, obviously surprised.
"Did he now?" Hinoka asked.
"Well, I shot those Hulk rejects before they could hit her. But if you call that a rescue your words not mine." He shrugged, both Hinoka and Sakura glanced at each other than back at Dante.
"Hulk…" Hinoka said. "R-rejects?" Sakura finished.
He forgot he wasn't back home so, saying shit like that would make no sense to them.
"Forget it, you guys wouldn't get it." He did a wave gesture. Walking in the direction of the village, he turned around both in a daze still. He snapped is fingers as loud as he could.
"Hey! You girls comin' or not."
Ryoma's small group excluding Dante walked through the inner residences of the village, as they walked Ryoma fell into step with Corrin, Rinkah and Kaze behind them.
"What were these creatures we fought earlier?" Corrin asked curiously.
"We call them Faceless." Ryoma answered soberly. "Nohr sends them regularly to harass villages in the mountains and near the border."
"No…" Corrin said, shaking her head. "That doesn't make sense. I've never heard of such creatures. Besides, infantry would be more effective…"
Corrin cleared her throat, looking away when Ryoma gave her a sideways glance.
"Never mind…" She mumbled.
"The Nohrians send them because they cannot pass through the magic field that our mother placed over the kingdom." Ryoma explained. "When enemy soldiers enter Hoshido with hatred or malice in their hearts they found themselves ripped off all their energy and will to fight. That's why Nohr sends them instead, they are soulless creatures that's why they are able to penetrate the barrier and create chaos."
Corrin couldn't believe what she was hearing, before she could continue to protest, they came around the villagers. Near the villagers were a few tried soldiers some that stood out, a woman with blue hair with heavy lidded eyes carrying a bow, some sort of priest using his staff to stay upright, a young woman in a pink kimono with an armor plate on the top, a crimson-haired man wearing a light blue combat tunic. The crimson-haired man jogged towards Ryoma as he caught sight of him.
"Lord Ryoma." He immediately kneeled in front of him. "Thank you for helping, you've without a doubt have saved many of the villagers."
"Yes, we arrived just in time before there could've been more casualties." He said. "Though I have to ask Tsubaki, are Hinoka and Sakura with you I don't see them anywhere?"
"No… Lord Ryoma." Tsubaki replied sadly. "They are still near the hills searching for other villagers. Expect them to return soon. Ryoma sighed, it seemed he had to go back to the snowy fields once. But if that's what he had to find any of his siblings, he would do it without a thought.
"Brother!" He heard someone call. Ryoma turned around and saw his two sisters Sakura and Hinoka along with Dante, making their way towards him.
"Thank you for helping defend the villagers." Sakura said, her voice quiet, she bowed slighty. "You no doubt saved many of them. I… have to ask though. W-who are you?"
The older of the two also turned her attention on Corrin. Her eyes widened and her jaw was left gape. The younger girl noticed her reaction too, glancing up at her.
"H-Hinoka?" she stuttered.
Hinoka switched back and forth between Corrin and Ryoma a few times and Ryoma nodded with a grin. She turned back to look at Corrin, tears welling in her eyes now.
"Corrin?" she almost whispered. "Is… is it really you?"
"Uhm…"
Corrin didn't get the chance to finish as girl reached out, her hand shaking as she cupped the side of her face. Tears were running down her cheeks now as she looked disbelievingly at Corrin who fidgeted uncomfortably under the unwanted attention. Behind her the younger girl was looking at her wide-eyed now, too.
"I can't believe you're back," she whispered, her shoulders still trembling. "After all this time… after everything I did… you… you came back… I-I'm so… sorry…" She sniffed
"Hinoka was so attached to you when you were little," Ryoma explained. "When you were taken from us, she cried for months. Then one day she stopped crying and picked up a naginata. And I will say, if you ever find yourself facing the business end of her weapon you will be filled with serious regrets about your life choices. She vowed to bring you back to us one day."
"And this." Ryoma added, looking down to the younger girl. "Is our youngest sister. Sakura. She's a priestess in training and fast on her way to being just as strong as our mother."
The girl avoided eye contact, sneaking some glances at Corrin.
"Er… okay." Corrin said, taking Hinoka's hands off his shoulders. "This is awkward. I'm the third princess of Nohr. Not… Hoshido."
Hinoka's head snapped up, a frown on her teared face now. She flipped her hands, taking Corrin's own in hers and holding them tight.
"Is that what they told you!?" she snarled. "Is that the lie they fed you to make you stay!? We're your family, Corrin!"
"Enough!" Corrin snapped, yanking her hands away. "Even if what you say is true, I can't remember it anyway! I was injured as a child and now my memories of anything older than a week are vague at best! Even if I wanted to, I wouldn't remember you!"
Hinoka's face turned pale as Ryoma stepping forward.
"You didn't say anything earlier." he said.
"I haven't had a chance to," Corrin said exasperatedly. "I got to the palace, I had the Queen crying all over me, then I get shoved onto a battlefield and I haven't had a single moment to sort through my own thoughts on this matter! So, I'm sorry my gods-forsaken condition hasn't come up yet!"
Corrin didn't realize until she finished that she was shouting, but when she did she was already red in the face and breathed heavily.
"Calm yourself, Corrin," Ryoma said gently. "Corrin you're still our sister tt doesn't matter. We'll… find a way to work through this-"
"I don't want to work through this!" Corrin snapped. "Either kill me or let me go back to Nohr! I've had enough of you people trying to convince me something I'm not!"
Hinoka winced as if she'd been struck, looking away from her. Ryoma let out a sigh, frowning again. Sakura, took a step forward, squinting up at him.
"Y-you… don't know?" she asked.
"What?" Corrin hissed.
"You… you're under a curse," she stammered. "I… I can feel it, lingering about you. It's… centered on your head. I… I can't sense much more than that, but…"
"What, curse?" Ryoma asked.
"Could it be messing with her memories?" Hinoka asked.
"I-it's possible…" Sakura mumbled, looking at the ground.
Corrin sighed, shaking her head. "I bumped it when I fell earlier. What you're feeling is a concussion most likely."
"Like I said, Sakura is well on her way to be a very powerful priestess," Ryoma said thoughtfully. "She would know. If you were under the influence of a curse."
"I'm not." Corrin insisted.
"I have a proposal for you," Ryoma said. "Come back to Shirasagi with us. Let us try one thing to dispel this curse and return your lost memories. If that doesn't work then you have my word as the High Prince of Hoshido that I will return you to Nohr myself."
Corrin sighed.
"… Fine." She decided. "But, on one condition."
"Anything." Hinoka said excitedly.
Corrin stepped around her, standing in front of Sakura. The younger Princess looked up at him, trembling as she frowned down at her.
"Is that a healing staff?" The white-haired princess asked her.
She nodded silently.
"You heal me, and I'll go anywhere you want me to. I don't think I can ignore the pain anymore." Corrin said, wobbling on her feet as stars filled her vision, falling to the ground unconscious.
"What happened to her?" Hinoka asked clearly confused, looking at the now blacked out princess.
"She got hit by a Faceless earlier." Rinkah explained. "It's surprises me she could even move. For so long."
"Damn, I guess you could say she was really feeling it." Dante joked, everyone looked at him with a blank stare. "What just tryin' to lighten the mood."
So... First happy new years everybody I know I'm late AF posting another chapter, but better late than never am I right...
