Summary: It been one year since Mikan left and everyone is now in Middle School. Natsume is still in a coma; no one knows what happened to Hotaru and Subaru, Mikan returns and is more powerful. Though the academy has changed there is still an Anti-Alice group out to destroy it. Will Mikan be able to save the Imai siblings and save everyone from this new threat or will this really be the end?

Chapter 3: Trouble Strikes

Ruka and Mikan had been visiting Natsume everyday sense he woke up. Ruka had filled Natsume in on everything that had happened at Alice Academy since the big fight with the old ESP and Mikan filled both boys in on every detail of the year she had been gone. Natsume had to do two hours of physical therapy to get his body back in shape after being in a coma for a year, but already after three days he could walk the distance of the hospital room without needing help, not that the nurses liked to offer to help him after he set ones dress on fire. The doctors said he'd be healthy enough to take on missions again if he wanted in a month.

It was currently Friday and the three were preparing for their friends weekly visit. Mikan was trying to sit as far from Natsume as possible seeing as none of their friends, other than Ruka, knew about their engagement and they wanted to keep it that way until everything was fixed the way it should be. Soon they heard voices out in the hallway, and then the door opened.

"Natsume-kun you're awake!" Sumire shouted as she entered the room. She ran and hugged Natsume who just laid there and ignored her. Next through the door were Nonoka, Anna, and Yü who was carrying Youichi; followed by Misaki and Tsubasa. Sumire was going on and on about how worried she was while he was comatose and how happy she was he was finally awake.

"Glad to see you're awake brat." Tsubasa said as he looked at Natsume.

"Why are you here?" Natsume asked with a glare, he saw Mikan let out a sigh from her seat by the door and Ruka shake his head.

"Yep you're all better." Tsubasa said with a chuckle.

"When do you get out of the hospital Natsume-san?" Yü asked,

"The end of next week." Natsume said uncaringly.

"That's great." Anna said.

"You'll be out in time to help with the festival." Nonoka said, "Do you know what your part is?"

"It's a secret." Youichi said as he was placed on Natsume's bed.

"That's not fair." Nonoko and Anna said.

"That's the rules." Misaki said smiling.

"What are you all talking about?" Natsume asked, "The Dangerous Abilities doesn't participate in school things."

"Didn't Chibi or Ruka-pyon tell you?" Tsubasa asked.

"I forgot." Ruka said blushing.

"Yeah we were talking about more important things." Mikan said, "It slipped our minds, and we forgot to tell him about the missions as well."

'Okay, so I'll give the quick explanation." Misaki said, "The Dangerous Class got combined with the Special Abilities class and students are no longer forced to do missions. There are now requirements which have to be met before students are allowed to do them."

"What?" Natsume asked clearly confused.

"What she means is that students now volunteer to do missions, Kuroneko." Persona said as he stepped into the room followed by Nobara, "However the student has to be a three-star or above and must also be a member of the special class unless there are special circumstances."

"Nii-san, Nobara-chan what are you doing here?" Mikan asked, "And what's with the bags?"

"This bag has a change of clothes for you." Rei said as he tossed her the bag, "A mission suddenly popped up you and Nobara are leaving in ten minutes go change and meet me in the lobby in five minutes."

"Okay." Mikan said.

"Wait." Natsume said as he tried to get up, "There is no way Mikan is going on missions." He almost fell to the ground but Ruka and Tsubasa caught him.

"Natsume." Mikan said in a panicked voiced, "You not strong enough to get out of bed yet."

"I don't care; you are not getting in harm's way." Natsume growled out, "I know what happens on missions and you are not getting put in that much danger." By now everyone in the room was watching the argument with curiosity and in most cases confusion.

"Natsume you cannot tell me what I can and can't do." Mikan said angrily and was getting silent cheers from the people in the know, "I decided a long time ago I was going to protect everybody and I am going to stand by my decision. I know what to expect on missions, I have talked thing over with my uncles and Rei-nii."

"Mikan, please." Natsume said in desperation, shocking everyone. "I just want you to stay safe."

"I'll be perfectly fine." Mikan said as she walked up to Natsume, "Rei-nii would never give me anything I couldn't handle and I promise to come back safely. Nobara will take care of me." Mikan gave Nobara a quick glance.

"I promise to protect Mikan-chan." Nobara said.

"Now I have to get ready to go." Mikan said, "We can talk more when I get back from my mission." With that Mikan disappeared into the bathroom to change, when she came out she was wearing tight fitting black pants, a black tank top, and black sneakers and her hair was up in a single ponytail instead of her usual pigtails. The room was silent.

"Hot." Natsume and Ruka said quietly.

"Damn Chibi you look all grown up." Tsubasa said earning a punch in the gut from Misaki and then Natsume set his hair on fire. Mikan just blushed as she looked around and notices that everyone was staring at her.

"Um… is there something wrong with my clothes?" Mikan asked as she checked herself out.

"N-no." Ruka stuttered.

"You look HOT!" Nonoko and Anna said together earning a smile from Mikan.

"Y-you look very n-nice, Yukihira-san." Yu said.

"Nee-chan is a super spy." Youichi said with a smile. "It's cool."

"Umm… thanks guys." Mikan said blushing. "Well, I have to go."

"Be careful." Misaki said as she gave Mikan a hug. "I'll make sure to hold down Nodacchi if he returns."

"Okay, well I'll see you guys when I get back." Mikan said as she headed for the door.

"Will you be back for the festival?" Anna asked.

"Of course, I wouldn't miss it for the world." Mikan said.

"Mikan we have to report back to Persona." Nobara said. "There is no way we could ever get into the morgue there are too many guards and we don't even know if any of them are Alices."

"I'm not turning back." Mikan said, "This is the third 'untimely' death of a well known Alice in two weeks. I'm going to get some answers before it hits the academy. I not letting something like 'Z' happen again."

"I agree with Hime." Tonöchi said as he joined the two girls.

"Where is Rui-san?" Nobara asked.

"We ran into a suspicious person that was casing the building." Tono said.

"Is that were you've been?" Mikan asked skeptically. "I noticed that the coroner's pretty female assistant disappeared."

"You are to innocent to be thinking like that." Tono said, "Anyway what's the plan?"

"Well, in the file Rei-nii gave us it said that Nagamura-san was known for using his pheromone Alice to get with his female costars and fans." Mikan said, "So I was thinking I could pose as one of his illegitimate kids and while the guards are distracted Nobara-chan could freeze them."

"I like it." Tono said.

"I think it's a good plan." Nobara said. Mikan walked around the corner with tears running down her face.

"Miss we have to ask you to leave." One guard said.

"I just want to see my papa one last time." Mikan cried, "Momma won't stop crying."

"We don't know who you are but we must ask you to leave." Another guard stated.

"DON'T KNOW ME." Mikan shouted turning hysterical, "BUT PAPA MADE SURE TO VISIT ME AND MOMMA VERY OFTEN. HOW CAN YOU NOT KNOW ME?" just then the guards went to grab Mikan but they were frozen in ice. "Good job, Nobara-chan." Mikan said with a smile all traces of her tears gone.

"The little princess can act." Tono said shocked, "I feel bad for who ever goes out with you. You'll be able to play them like a fiddle."

"Was that praise or an insult?" Mikan asked.

"A little of both." Tono said. 'Now let's finish this mission, don't you two have to get back for the festival in two days?"

"Yes, Mikan is particularly needed for the festival." Nobara said.

"Don't give anything away it's supposed to be a secret." Mikan said, "Now let's get thing over with dead bodies give me the creeps."

The three entered the room and headed over to the coroner's desk and grabbed the report on Nagamura's autopsy.

"It says here that the cause of death is a heart attack." Nobara said.

"Did he have a family history of heart problems?" Tono asked.

"No." Nobara said after flipping though the papers, "and there's a note here saying he was very health conscious."

"Well he was a famous actor." Mikan said, "It just doesn't make any since. The first victim was a 28 yr old TV psychic who died of brain failure and the second was a 25 yr old singer who was accidently electrocuted by her hair dryer."

"Well other than being untimely and odd I don't think there is really any problem. I think Principal Yukihira is just over thinking things." Tono said.

"Maybe he's right Mikan and these are just freak accidents." Nobara said.

"I have a gut-feeling there is so much more going on." Mikan said, "I want to check one more thing, which drawer is Mr. Nagamura in?"

"C8." Nobara said, "Why did you want to know?"

"You remember what the old ESP had my mother do, right?" Mikan asked, "He had her steal people's Alices as they died. Well your Alice is still in your body after you die.' Mikan opened the drawer and placed her hand on the body's head. "Nothing." She muttered, "Are you sure this is him?"

"Yes." Nobara replied.

"Mikan what's wrong?" Tono asked getting serious,

"It's gone. His Alice is gone there is nothing there not trace of it whatsoever." Mikan said, "We have to hurry back to the academy and report this."

"Alright let's get Rui and head back to the Academy then." Tono said.
