I was surprised how quickly I finished this chapter, hooray!
Disclaimer: Diabolik Lovers, Ayato, and all associated characters belong to Rejet/Idea factory! I only own Hitomi and the plot, nothing else!
I hope you guys are enjoying the story so far! It's going to be a very long ride for sure! Feel free to tell me what you think so far of everything!
I know there hasn't been much M stuff yet, but it will come in due time just like it does in the game, yes there will be lemoness down the road, but that has some time before it shows its lemony head.
As always thanks to anyone and everyone who has taken an interest in my crappy story! You're amazing! It feels so awesome to know you have even just a few readers on your first story that you've published. So seriously, thank you guys
~ There were moments I could act like a child myself... Like right now as I hopped across the floor one foot at a time counting my steps aloud to myself, I had started my personal hop-scotch game as soon as I reached the bottom of the stairs.
"Fifty six... Fifty seven... Fifty eight... Fifty nine... Sixty..."
I suddenly stopped my hopping and gave a sigh, "Man, I'm so fucking bored!" I shouted, "How do they stand it? Man, I need my stuff, I need music or something!"
I walked normally the rest of the way to the kitchen...
I reached the kitchen and examined it a moment... Immediately I sank to my knees and could hear the loud burst of Hallelujah! Music ring out in my head, the kitchen. Was. Beautiful.
I jumped to my feet, "This organization..!" I rushed to one side of the kitchen, "The counters are flawless, no cracks, no lines, no spots..!" I went through the cabinets, "Fully stocked with even more rare and expensive spices! This is kitchen heaven! Oh man now I don't know where to start! Don't worry Mister Genius who designed this kitchen, I will leave it spotless and everything will go back in place without even a millimeter for error!"
I opened the fridge and examined the contents, "Hmm... All the fresh fish... Oh my... I will have to make fish sometime soon..." I sighed as I closed the fridge and browsed the pantry, "I'm kind of in the mood for something simple, and it's probably a good idea to make something that is high in iron, maybe improves circulation... I don't feel the effects now but I'm captive of a vampire now, and there's no way he'd just let me go... If I'm going to have my blood drained nightly..." I stopped, "Hmm... How often does he even drink blood..?" I shrugged away the thought, "I'll find out I guess." I continued examining everything in the pantry.
When something... Obscure caught my eye...
"Haha." I laughed to myself and smiled at the oddly shaped brown bag, "So many nice things, and you're the one who catches my attention." I kneeled down and stroked the bag before pulling it out, "I guess it's been a while since I had potatoes." I walked into the kitchen with the bag, "Now, what to make with you?" I put the bag on the counter, "What do you think?"
I had a tendency to talk to inanimate objects, sure they couldn't reply back, but I was used to being alone so it gave me a weird comfort talking to inanimate objects and animals. Even if they said nothing, at times to me it felt like they did, they often gave me ideas at least, even if it was just to spark a dormant idea.
I smiled at the bag, "Nikujaga, that sounds brilliant."
I went through the fridge to gather ingredients and named them aloud every time I grabbed one and put it on the counter, "Vegetable oil, one yellow onion, carrots, white wine." I turned to the bag, "Potatoes... Brown sugar, chicken broth, I'll get the water later, soy sauce, salt, and scallions."
I paused, "Hmm... What meat to use... Ah ground beef is good for Nikujaga, plus it's high in iron... Now for the ginger... Do they have it fresh..?" I looked around, "Ah ha! I'll peel and mince it myself, ah I love fresh ingredients." I smiled as I inhaled the smell of the fresh ginger.
I measured out all of my ingredients then put their source containers and bottles away.
I put the oil in a saucepan on the burner to heat it up, as it heated I peeled and minced the ginger, I had started humming Green Sleeves to myself, I had always loved the tune.
I examined the pan, seeing the oil had started shimmering, I added the beef, I stirred the beef to break it up with my left hand while I used my right to chop the onion, placebo effect or not, I had found leaving the root on the onion while I cut kept it from burning my eyes so it wasn't too bad.
After about two minutes I added the onion, the ginger, and quickly cut the carrots into large pieces to toss them into the pan as well.
I let all that sit, occasionally turning back to it to stir while I cleaned up everything I had used so far.
After a few minutes I added the wine and let it simmer, then added the brown sugar, broth, water, and soy sauce, then picked up my bowl of cut potatoes. "Thanks for the idea." I smiled then dumped them into the pan.
I stirred it nicely and let it come to a boil while I cleaned the rest of the mess I had made besides the pan I was now using. Once it was boiling I turned it to a simmer and let it sit, occasionally giving it a stir.
"About thirty minutes..." I looked to my watch, "Alright."
I closed my eyes and went back to humming Green Sleeves, when I suddenly felt a presence in the room, I jumped in surprise, hoping he didn't hear me humming.
"Ayato." I greeted, "I'm surprised to see you up." No I'm not.
He looked at me, How the hell did he get so close without me feeling his presence first..? Can he hide it?
"Did I startle you?" He asked, almost laughing.
"No." I said with a stubborn tone, "How'd you do that anyway? I didn't hear any footsteps."
He simply grinned at me; his hair was messier than usual, he looked like he had just woken up.
He just wakes up and the first thing he does is come get me huh?
I turned back to the pan to stir it again, as soon as I turned around, Ayato was suddenly right next to me, so close my shoulder brushed his arm a bit as I shifted.
I jumped in surprise, "S-Stop doing that!" I retaliated.
"I can do what I want, stupid, this is my house." He snorted, he seemed to be trying not to laugh.
"It's not funny..." I pouted slightly, "What if I spilled it..." I said looking at the pan.
"Well you didn't." He smirked.
"Why are you down here anyway? I thought you were tired."
"I was." He gave a sniff, "But something interesting smelling got my attention."
I looked at him a moment, Did he mean me, or the food? Or wait, I'm the food, for him anyway so... The food or Mister Potato..? So food... I wonder if he'd throw me on the table and eat me... Or do I qualify as more of a finger food..? I couldn't help but snicker at my thoughts. I mentally snapped my fingers, Come on; stop it, Hitomi focus, focus! Argh this whole food versus me thing is too confusing! Whatever I'll just ask!
"Decided you were hungry after all?"
"No." He said flatly.
"So you were talking about the food... Erm, the Nikujaga I mean."
"Of course I was."
"Well you said interesting... Do you like the smell..? Or is interesting bad..?"
"Hmm, it doesn't stink..."
I began to sigh, "But it doesn't smell good either."
"Why did you come down here than?" Now it was my turn to smirk.
He simply gave me a blank stare, "Would you like to try some?"
He continued with his blank stare, "I made enough for two just in case." I continued.
"Well then it's decided. Ore-sama will eat it with you; after all it would be pain for just you then, yeah?"
I smiled and couldn't hide my laugh, He really is dishonest. It's kind of cute though, he was so determined to hold his pride he wouldn't just ask to have some.
"What are you laughing about?" His gaze lowered.
"Nothing, but, ah, where are the bowls kept?"
Ayato pointed to a cabinet, and I opened it and pulled out two shallow bowls, "It's almost ready." I smiled as I placed them on the counter.
Ayato slumped down in a chair at the table, "How did you pop in here like that anyway? I didn't hear your footsteps or even feel your presence that heavily until you were right there."
"You think a vampire can't muffle their steps?" He scoffed.
"No but your presence... Seeing as you were a bit confused when I talked about it last night I don't think you can hide it that way..."
"Isn't it obvious?" He huffed as I filled the two bowls and cleaned the remainder of the mess, "I can teleport."
I froze a second, "... Of course you can..." I shook my head at the thought as I placed a bowl in front of him, than the other at an empty seat and sat down, "Why didn't you just grab me and teleport off somewhere then?" I tilted my head.
"That's boring." He scoffed as if I should've known that, "It's more fun to see my prey struggle, and the look of fear on their face. Though you didn't have that look, it was a little disappointing at first." He sighed as he brought a spoonful of the Nikujaga up.
He took a bite of it and his eyes widened in surprise, I noted his expression, "How is it? Good?" I asked.
He immediately turned back to his uninterested expression, "It wasn't bad I guess." He replied before taking another bite.
I lifted a brow at him, "It's nothing compared to your blood." He quickly dismissed my face.
"Thanks I guess."
I took his remaining silence as a compliment, if he wasn't saying anything and was just focused on eating, it was a sign it was good, of course I was enjoying the Nikujaga myself.
Oh potatoes, how I love them~
