Chapter 4

It's been about a week since Kagome had the argument with her mother. She had stayed in her room most of the time and only left to eat or to walk around the shrine. She was still upset but no longer angry at her mother. Whatever happened to her, it clearly had upset her mother. Could she really blame her for worrying? The best she could do was figure it out for herself. At the moment, the young girl was sitting outside under the Goshinboku. It really was the most peaceful place she could be.

Sighing she closed her eyes and tried to remember something that would give her an idea of what happened to her. The only memory she could play out in her head was the day of her fifteenth birthday. She repeated the event over and over until her head started to hurt. It always ended the same. Her brother asked her to get Buyo out of the well house. Then somehow she fell... or at least she thought so.

"Ugh..." the young girl groan as she placed her hands at the sides of her head. "Why can't I remember? Maybe..." She looked to the well house and stood up. Maybe the secret to her memory loss laid inside. Cautiously she looked around to make sure no one would see her and headed for the old tiny structure. Resting her hand on the door, she took a deep breath and opened it. Nothing happened. Kagome sighed. What did she expect would happen? That all her memories would rush in at once?

She stepped into the dark room and down the few steps that led to the well. Her hands trailed the rim of the well as she tried to feel something, anything that'll help her. "Hmm. Maybe inside?" She said to herself as she looked over into the well. It was dark but she could see the bottom. Her eyes roamed around until they landed on a ladder inside the well. "Now why would that be in there?"

"What are you doing in here?"

Kagome gasped and spun round to see her brother in the doorway. She placed a hand over her beating heart and let out the breath she was holding. "Damn it Souta. Don't sneak up on me like that."

"You're lucky it was just me and not grandpa." He said walking inside and closing the door. "Or worse, mom."

"I was curious."

"Yeah, I figured that was the case. But still, you have to be more careful."

"Right."

"So...why are you in here?" Souta questioned standing next to her by the well.

"I, ah, thought I could remember something if I came in here." Kagome replied.

"Did you?"

Kagome shook her head, a sad smile on her face. Seeing his sister this way made Souta feel slightly guilty. He wanted to tell her what happened to her. About everything she had done and gone through in the Feudal Era but he couldn't. His mother didn't want her to know.

He ran a hand through his hair and sighed. "We should get out of here. Before mom catches us."

"You're right." Kagome responded moving away from the well. With one last glance at it, she left the well house with Souta. As they walked back to their house a strange thought occurred to her. "Hey Souta."

"Yeah?"

"The well... wasn't it closed? By doors, maybe?"

"Uh, yeah. Why?" The young teen glance at his sister. "Did you remember something?"

"No, no. It was just a thought I had." She gave him a reassuring smile, which he accepted. When they were inside the house, Kagome immediately went to her room and closed the door. Alone she let the last scene of her memory play out. Something wasn't right. If the well was closed, then how could she have possibly fallen in it? Feeling another headache coming along, she went to her bed and laid down. She thought about the scene again and again until she took a guess. She definitely didn't "fall" into the well and she was pretty sure she wasn't pushed. Which meant... "Was I pulled in?" She sat up immediately. It was absurd. Impossible really. "If I was pulled in... then something must have come out of the well." The more she thought about it the more she knew she was right. The only thing she needed to know now was what pulled her in, and what happened after.

~~~Feudal Era~~~
"How many does that make?" Sango asked as she picked up the small shard from the ground.
"In all? Seven." Miroku replied. "Since we've been on our own? One."
"We were only lucky to find it." Shippo said on top the monks shoulder, causing the other two to sigh.
"Would you guys cut that out? You're not helping." Inuyasha stated walking past them.
"Can't help it. I miss her too much," the young kitsune said with another sigh.
Inuyasha just huffed and continued on. By sunset they stopped and made camp. Sango fetched clean water to drink while Miroku got firewood and Inuyasha hunted. There was a long silence as they ate. Not an awkward silence, but they felt empty.
"Do you think Kagome's thinking about us?" Shippo asked after some time.
"Of course she is." Sango replied.
"You think she misses us?"
"Shippo what's this all about?"
The kitsune shrugged.
"Kagome's always thinking about others." Inuyasha commented. "I bet you right now she's thinking about whether or not we've encountered Naraku yet."
"Or if you're wailing on poor Shippo." Miroku added.
"Or if you're still being a pervert," the hanyou countered.
"Or if we've been resting properly," Sango chimed in.
"She's definitely wondering if we missed her yet." Inuyasha said with a sad smile.
"I miss her cooking," Shippo said once everyone had gotten quiet again. This got everyone to smile and laugh. "Inuyasha misses those ramen no doubt."
"Those were the best."
"I miss her stories about the future." Sango said.
"I think she had us spoiled with all those items from the future as well." Miroku commented.
"You know what's weird?" Inuyasha asked with a smirk. "I'm starting to really miss those sit commands."
"Are you serious?" Miroku laughed.
"I know it's strange," he answered. They grew quiet again, each thinking about their friend from the future. They really didn't have much to say at that point, so they let it be. It felt like it could go on forever until they felt a spike in youki.
"What was that?" Sango asked.
"It felt close. Inuyasha?"
"It's Sesshomaru." He answered getting up. "Something's up."
"What makes you think so?"
"How many demons you know would make him use that much youki?"
"So, what do you want to do?"
"Let's check it out." Inuyasha took a head start and ran toward the increasing level of youki. It wasn't long before he came upon demolished trees and earth. In the center of the wreckage was Sesshomaru facing off with Naraku. The inuyoukai was dodging the attacks coming from the evil hanyou. Realizing they had not noticed him yet, he thought to kill two birds with one stone. When they were in his direct path he let loose the Wind Scar.
Sesshomaru turned in time to see the attack heading in his direction and just barely jumped out of the way. He sent a death glare toward his half-brother and growled.
"Oops," Inuyasha smirked walking into the open. "My hand slipped."
"Inuyasha, how unexpected." Naraku chuckled unscathed by the attack. "And very rude of you to interrupt."
"Yeah, yeah, yeah. Thing is we've been looking for you for a long while."
"Really?" Naraku questioned noticing the others coming their way. "Oh yes. Kagura did mentioned she had a little run in with you."
"I bet she did," the inu-hanyou mumbled as the rest of the group stood by him.
"Oh, someone seems to be missing. Did something happen to your little miko?"
"What's it to you?" Sango said readying her weapon.
"Must have been pretty bad."
Inuyasha growled at him. "Back off."
Naraku was going to replied when Sesshomaru got in between them. "As much as I love your little banter, we were in the middle of something." The taiyoukai stated, his full attention on Naraku.
"Well, why don't I just take you all on?"
"How about I go first!" Inuyasha yelled leaping towards him.
Naraku dodged the attack only to face Sesshomaru. The taiyoukai caught him off guard and slashed at him with Tokijin, hitting him in the arm. Naraku moved away quickly before unleashing a mist of miasma to cover his escape.
"Don't think about it!" Sango unleashed her Hiraikotsu tearing through the miasma.
Her attack missed but it gave Inuyasha an opening to release another Wind Scar. Naraku blocked the attack with his barrier and took to the sky. A growl was heard as Sesshomaru leaped after him and struck the barrier unleashing a large amount of youki. The barrier cracked under the pressure but didn't break. Smirking, Naraku pushed his energy back at him, forcing the inuyoukai back. He landed on his feet and prepared another attack but Inuyasha beat him to it. The hanyou jumped towards Naraku as Tetsusaiga turned red and struck down on the barrier. Just like with Sesshomaru, the attack didn't faze it, and he was driven back.
"Would you like to try again?" Naraku chuckled receiving glares from them all. "We might have to do this some other time." He said turning away from them.
"Get back here you coward!" Inuyasha ran after him.
Naraku released another burst of miasma, this time covering the whole area and giving him time to escape. Knowing well they couldn't pursue him, the others moved as far away from the growing mist as they could. As soon as they were clear of the miasma, Sesshomaru knocked Inuyasha to the ground.
"What the fuck was that for?!" Inuyasha yelled as he got up from the ground and marched up to the taiyoukai.
Sesshomaru grabbed him by the neck and threw him back down with a growl. "For getting in my way."
"Don't act as if you were dealing any damage to him." He replied getting up and dusting the dirt off his clothes.
"I would have if you had not interrupted."
"Right."
"If I may ask," Miroku intervened. "What happened with Naraku?"
Sesshomaru looked at him for a while before answering. "He has my ward."
"That little girl you traveled with?" Sango asked. "When did this happened?"
"Two days ago." The inu said turning away from the group. "If someone hadn't interfered I could have found out where she was. Now I have to track him down again."
"Maybe we can-"
"I do not require your help." He said glaring at them then took to the sky on his youki cloud.
"What do we do now?" Shippo asked as they watch the inu fly away.
"There's nothing to do." Inuyasha replied.
"Shouldn't we at least try to help him?" Sango suggested quietly.
"The guy doesn't want our help."
"Well, maybe we won't help him." Miroku commented, walking in the direction the youkai went with a smile. "We, ourselves are looking for Naraku, and if we so happen to come across the little girl we'll just help her. If Kagome was here she would surely suggest we find her...am I right?"
Inuyasha gave the monk a half-smile. "Yes. Well said Miroku."
Just gonna leave it here. I know you all must have been waiting for this. Especially since I hadn't placed Sesshomaru in yet. But your patience have been rewarded. :) Any way I hoped you liked this. Please review, it's always welcomed. P.S This was written while I was sleep deprived.
