Alexa POV
The food was AMAZING! It made my mouth water.
"Nice food isn't it?" Cammie nudged me. I nodded and swallowed a mouth full of the duck wrap I had.
"Our chef is amazing." Liz stated. Like I didn't know that.
"So," Macey turned to me. "What are you going to do?" Macey asked. What?
"What do you mean?" I replied, puzzled.
"Are you going to work in the field or not?" She said again. I honestly hadn't thought about it.
"Field I guess." I answered after a minute of silence. Bex grinned.
"Good. You're going to have to talk to Mrs Morgan about it though." She said.
"Don't worry," Cammie smiled. "Mum'll let you stay. Probably." I gulped. They laughed and I relaxed, this place was nice.
That's when I saw him. He was sat there talking to Professor Buckingham, unaware I was even in the room. I dropped my fork, it clattered to the plate. "Whose that?" I didn't take my eyes off him for a second. Like at any minute he was going to disappear, again.
"Oh that's Mr Solomon, why?" Bex said. I felt the world spinning.
"Dad?" I whispered and ran out the hall, tears streaming down my face.
###
I knew everyone saw me run out, but I could hardly care. That was me Dad! My Dad, who I hadn't seen for years, here, teaching at the school I'd just joined.
"Alexa!" Zach screamed. I could hear other foot steps as well. Bex, Cammie, Liz and Macey.
"Miss Rivers!" Oh my god! That was my dad calling me. Did he not know who I was?
I crammed myself into the library and curled up in the corner. Hoping I was invisible. But I wasn't.
"There you are." Bex said and helped me up. "What was all that about?" I glared at Zach.
"How could you not tell me?!" I growled at him. Mr Solomon came around the corner and froze. I avoided his eye.
"Alexandra?" He gasped and came towards me. I shoved him away, hard.
"Alexa." I told him in a whisper.
"What is the meaning of this?" I guessed that was Mrs Morgan. She was the spitting image of Cammie. She took Dad's hand. "Joe?"
"That's Alexa." He said without looking at her.
"Your daughter?" She breathed. He nodded numbly and tried to come closer to me. I hit him away again, but there was only so many times I could before in the end I gave in and hugged him.
"I hate you." I cried into his chest. He stroked my head and whispered. "I hate you."
"I know. I know." Dad shushed me quietly.
"Why did you leave?" Dad pushed me to arms length.
"You're so grown up." He avoided the question.
"Dad?" I tried again.
"Is your hair longer?" He fluffed up my hair and avoided my eye.
"Stop it." I whacked his hand away from my head. "Why did you go?" My voice cracked and my hands began to shake.
"I had to." Dad wiped some tears from my face. "I can't tell you." I screamed in frustration and shoved him backwards.
He tripped and I ran away. Not looking back at the man who abandoned me.
I didn't even look back when I heard foot steps following me.
I turned a corner into a hallway I'd never seen and then took a right into a dead end.
"Alexa?" Cammie had followed me? That was odd, I'd guessed Zach, or Dad. Heck, I'd have guessed any one other than Cammie.
"Thought you hated me." I sniffled and lent against the back wall. Cammie shook her head.
"I don't hate you Alexa, never did." I snorted and slid down to the floor.
"Then what?" I asked. She shrugged.
"You reminded me of somebody." She sighed and joined me against the wall. I looked at her.
"Who?" I said.
"Me." She shrugged and laughed a little. I joined in. Cammie seemed nice. But there was still something I had to clear up...
"Me and Zach," I started, Cammie looked at me, her laughter stopped short. "We aren't... You know." I hoped she understood.
"I know." Cammie admitted. "But you and him, you have something, that me and him don't have." I put my hand over hers.
"We're like siblings." I smiled. "That's what it is, we have a brother, sister bond. Not a boyfriend, girlfriend one, like you two." Cammie put her head against the wall and laughed.
"Oh." She laughed some more. "I am such an idiot." I shook my head and laughed again with her.
"No, you're not. You just really like him." I slowly stood up. "And I think you two are really cute together." She stood up with me and look around the corner, the others were looking for us, they'd probably heard the laughing.
"I can get you out of here if you want." Cammie offered. "There's a secret passage that leads..." But I was already heading for where Dad, Zach, Mrs Morgan and the girls were. More girls had joined in the search for me and Cammie. They'd probably heard that I was Mr Soloman's daughter.
"There they are!" Zach yelled and ran to us. Cammie gave me a small smile and stood in front of me. I ran the other way, away from them, away from everyone.
I ran past girls in all years, push a few out the way. Half the time forgetting to apologise, I hardly cared. As if by some miracle I found the front door, shoving it open I charged out into the sun set, the ground began to blur beneath my feet and my legs ached with the strain of running at my top speed for so long.
Not looking back at the people shouting and calling my name I headed into Roseville town.
