The name rung memory bells, per say, in the boy's head as Jade stated the mission that she was trying to do in the first place. He didn't mean to tune her out, but since he didn't know much about his past, he did so anyways. Davesprite would apologize later, but right now, his top priority was figuring out who he was, and not just the Guy Named Davesprite.
"serket!" That same boy he saw in his past vision, or whatever you'd call it appeared, who seemed so similar to himself, runs into a room with only one person as the occupant before he charged into the room, holding a small sword in his frail hands.
"My, my..." A silky, devil-like voice sung out in reply to the new comer in the room. "If it isn't the little Strider hero...Trying to save your sister, hm?" The pearly voice chuckled, making the boy snarl in response. "No need to 8e hostile to your loving queen, Strider."
"loving queen my ass you just want to off us and rule the world like every fairytale villian that Bro told me every night." The boy cursed and raised his weapon, level with the queen's facial features, which were unnaturally calm yet suspicious. "you are a prick sharper than a thorn in my sides and colder than antarctica in winter so nice try bad woman."
The Queen stood with a straight look, looking directly at the boy. "If you harm me with even a scratch, my 8est swordsman will hunt down your family and skin you all alive." The threat was empty and scared, meaningless, and the boy had noticed, so he took a step forward.
"you dont scare me you little spider bitch." Dave cursed again, his blade hovering above the navy blue carpet with a menacing look threatening to engulf his whole being as he sauntered nearer to the woman who killed his friends, and had threatened to kill him and his family. This was it, no delays, no complications, just him and Queen Serket. Either he was going down or she was.
Dave was mere feet from the Queen when he spoke. "you struck us down when fell before that ring you lost that right to wear that crown so when i rule ill douse the flames that you began to fan." He told the Queen as he took short steps nearer.
Then, he saw her smirk before his whole being went lifeless. Dave struggled to look down and see the double edged blade protruding through his chest, and a familiar voice came from behind him. "Welcome to the living fucking dead, Strider."
The blade was ripped from his chest and he fell forward after seeing blood red eyes, and a devil's grin.
Davesprite shivered in the present and tuned Jade back in at right moment.
"so, basically, we have to kill the queen, got it?"
You will die Serket. No matter what happens you will fall. Be ready.
Dave-sprite helped Jade kill most of the soldiers in their path, but Jade allowed a messenger to alert the queen of their presence, and it was very intentional by the looks of it. The messenger even walked up to them and asked where they were going with guns, well, asked Jade but, and she said,
"There's gonna be some hell to pay, that's the only thing I'm gonna say." And, the messenger took off ahead of them.
When they reached the throne room, the Queen had called out, "I'm in here darlings~"
Jade confidently trudged in, looking in pain, but not showing her evident, and only, weakness. "Queen Serket, I'm here to vanquish you." Dave-sprite was taken back by the vocabulary. Where did she learn her words?
Queen Serket stood with a grueling smile and put out her arms. "Dear chi~ld, why must you re8el against me with your invisi8le friends? That's cheating you know." Her smile told it all.
"what?" The two rebels momentarily lost their minds for a moment, not knowing what she was talking about. Then it was clear as day.
"you!" Dave-sprite took a hovering, quaking, shaking step forward towards the person who had sent him to that archive in the sky, and trapped him in this state of being. "you little motherfucking shithead devil of a queen! You're the one that killed me!"
Jade cast a bewildered glance towards the angered, sorrowful, fallen angel, and felt her whole being light up with the fire that wars flowing through Dave-sprite's nonexistent veins. Anger, hatred, war, death. That was all she felt. All she heard. All she helped create.
"Yes, I know..." The now horned queen chuckled demonically, but didn't faze the angel with a fire in his orange eyes, yet covered by the shades that he could never take off. "I apologize ahead of time, 8efore this 8attle takes place, 8ut I would like to st8 that you alone can't do anything. *You* don't have the power to defeat me, my dear little child."
He froze, and the fire turned to ice. He couldn't call vengeance on his killer, even though she's right in front of him? Why? Why couldn't he be like everyone else who saw their loved ones die, and swear vengeance on those who helped to kill them?! "Why..." Dave-sprite stopped and fell to the ground, the ice feeling like a dozen tons of weight in his nonexistent, yet flowing somehow, veins.
"Dave..." Jade called, reaching out to him. Though, just as soon as she did that, his figure began to flicker. She, though saddening, was beginning to doubt his existence. The ravenette wanted to believe so bad that he was real, that they would be able to get him back alive if HE killed her. This new information was wrecking everything. At that point, she felt confidence surge through her, as well as anger and some other emotion she doesn't know too well, and she flicked her lime green gaze to the offender in question. "you. you said that HE can't kill you. what if HE didn't. what if..." His figure stabilized, and his head shot up. The angel didn't have to turn his head, or read his master's mind to know what she was going to say next. "i killed you."
A booming, echoing laugh surged trough the foyer of this castle, and abruptly stopped just as quickly as it came. "What a question! Ha ha! What a question indeed. If you killed me, he would return to his former state, regained all his memories, Rose dearest would 8e alive, and you..." She pitiably frowned at Jade, as if holding back something. "He wouldn't remem8er you at all. You'd have to do something like this all over again to have him regain his feelings for you." The demon Queen chuckled low and sweet, to those who knew of her soft side that is. "Such. A. SHAME."
"what?" The two of them hoarsely whispered. One was frightened for his life of the reaction, and the other didn't know how to react. They were both frozen, literally, figuratively, and metaphorically. They couldn't think, act, or talk due to what she said. "jade i-" Dave-sprite began to talk, but was cut by Jade's smile. Just her smile completely froze him again. Why was he like this? He wasn't supposed to be acting like this.
"i guess that's the price to pay." Her tone suggested that she was willing to give up everything for Dave, and vice versa. A painful scream emitted from The Queen just as Jade disappeared, tapping into Dave-sprite's flash-step abilities to have a gunshot echo out just after the scream. "i'm sorry dave. maybe in the next life." Jade laughed once last time for him, but this time it wasn't out of adorable awkwardness, or even normal laughter.
It was out of sadness as the world turned white.
"Dave. Wake up." A voice ordered, shaking the unconscious boy underneath the peach tree in the backyard of an unfamiliar home. "Dave, wake up. I have someone here to meet you." The person was familiar, yet not. The voice was the same, yet not. Everything was...different in a sense. The crimson eyed, shaded blond groaned and put a hand to his head as he adjusted his shades.
"what rose? im trying to catch some sleep." That name... Why did he say it so smoothly, lie he knew it so well? So long, in fact. His memory was hazy and filled with blurred faces, but all he did was chuckle and push himself off the ground. "and who are you trying to get to like me this time?"
Rose chuckled and ran a hand through her short tuft of blond hair, similar looking to Dave's. "Just a friend, don't worry. She's actually really nice. You'll love her." Extending a hand to him, she bowed slightly.
He chuckled slightly and took it, spinning his sister around in a sister and dipping her with a smirk. "loves a powerful word yanno that?" With a bunch of laughter and snarky snapbacks, they finally realized a girl watching them with innocent, lime green, knowing eyes. "(oh shit rose who she?)" He found himself whispering, staring right back at the girl who was showing a smile of kindness and joy right at him, as if she knew him better than he knew himself.
"(Oh, her?)" Rose pointed to the unknown girl, chuckling. "Jade, come over here." Jade... Why did that sound so familiar... Why did it sound so perfect? Shaking his head, he continued staring through his opaque aviators, silently thanking the Gods that they were hiding the confusion in his eyes, shaded by the shade of the peach tree and his own 'shades'.
As the girl approached, there was a mysterious, yet understanding, glint of depressed satisfaction in her eyes, which obviously showed in her tone. "hey rose... dave, right?" She seemed to be uncomfortable asking what his name was, and if she got it right, like she had been through this already. Looking down at the necklace around her neck, it was a record symbol, and a little feather attached to it, and she smiled faintly as she looked directly at the confused blond boy.
And that was when she couldn't help but say to him, "i really hoped you would remember me dave." She turned around and walked away, feeling tears prick at her eyes. She knew she shouldn't have gotten attached to the boy. The dead Queen was right. He didn't remember...
"wait jade." Dave found himself stopping her with his mere two words as he walked up behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist. "i... i don't know why i'm saying this shit but... fuck i think i love you i feel like ive known you forever and a fortnight and goddammit jade i just met you!" He said a little louder, grip tightening only the slightest and she began to relax little by little.
Turning in his arms, she smiled as she pulled him into a long, breathless kiss. When she parted, there was a telltale blush on her cheeks and she giggled. "that's because you have coolkid." A large, dorky, yet strangely adorable grin spread across her face, just like she did when she was younger with her brother, and she let out a breath slowly. "i understand that you feel like that, but you don't remember me. she was right, and i was wrong, mentally i mean. maybe it was stupid of me to get attached to people like you- who always, always disappear when i need it most."
Dave went to go say something, but then she seemed to disappear for a moment, and reappear with her back to him and she was laughing. "have a good life dave. don't worry about me while i fight for what's not there anymore." At that moment, as she began walking away, the blond couldn't have felt more alone, hollow, and scared.
"jade please dont go." He heard himself whisper as instinct took over and he lurched forward, grabbing her wrist as she went to turn a corner. "please dont leave me again jade i love you i really do." Dave pleaded, shades slipping a bit and the world got brighter on one half, and darker on the other. Jade turned to him, eyes dark and light, and he could have sworn he saw tears in her eyes before she giggled.
"i... i could say the same, dave, but what does it matter. it's under false pretenses, isn't it? you 'don't believe what you're saying', do you?" Her voice was barely recognizable now, low and scared, as well as strong and confident at the same time. It scared him, to say for certain. Something was wrong with her, and she's changed, and he knew it although he didn't know how he did.
"no i dont but jade." His voice was proud and brave, as well as childish and whiny at the same time. He was acting the same way as Jade, in a way, and he... didn't care that he felt like that they could see right through each other because he just wanted her to see him for him, and seeing her so scared- so depressed- made him want to die right where he was. "jade you listen to me i don't care if its under shitty false pretenses. i. love. you. and nothings going to change that."
Rose, smiling from her room, looked outward, where the sun was just beginning to set and then to the castle behind her and chuckled. "Thank you." She heard herself whisper to nothing in particular, feeling someone watching her in a sincere way. Someone she once lost.
