Chapter 2

LANDON

I watched as the young girl wandered the compounds of this ruined home looking for something. She was looking for some type of hidden room that she could not seem to find. My hunger was sedated for now and she was more to me a curious creature than dinner. I scanned the area and noticed no other human in this hidden home. Why is this girl out here alone and who is she? Against my better judgment I left my spot in the trees and made my way through the dark towards these ruins to investigate what this girl was after.

"Don't bother Landon, it is just a human girl from a line of vampire hunters."

"So Miranda you decided to check on me after over 50 years." I turn around slowly and face the one that created me so long ago. Now what does she want…. "Come to kill me Miranda or is this just a social visit?"

"No my darling Landon I have come to finish where I left off by killing this girl. The Owens line of hunters must die with her!"

"So you want to kill some random human girl just because she 'might' be a hunter of vampires? Who says she believes we exist? You know as well as I that we have become myths in these humans' legends." I watched as Miranda floated over to me and placed a hand to my face.

"Precious pet, I have watched this girl grow. She is trained to kill our kind and letting her live will be the downfall of us. But if you wish I will task you with her death. Keep in mind my pet if you don't kill her by the next time I find you I will kill you alongside her. " Miranda's face turned from one of beauty to that of a cold and evil elder vampire. I knew I had to obey or my death would follow the girl's.

"Very well Mistress it shall be done by our next meeting." I bowed to my Mistress knowing there was no point of arguing. With that Miranda disappeared back into the night from where she appeared.

Now should I kill her now or wait and see what she is after. Miranda never did say when I needed to kill her just have to get it done before our next meeting, and that is at least 6 months away. I smile to myself and head towards where the girl sleeps to observe my new prey. I entered the barn slowly and looked the girl over. So this girl is from the Owens' clan of vampire hunters. There is now way. The men were the best and if her family is dead she is no way a challenge. Maybe I should just introduce myself and see if she realizes what I am and if so well then I could kill her. As I stand and look the girl over she shifts in her sleep and mumbles something about not being strong enough or quick enough to save her family and where is grandpa. So Miranda didn't get them all. The grandfather lives and this girl treasures him. Interesting. I may have to find out more about this man before I do end this girls life. I watch the girl and listen hoping she was say more but nothing else is said so I leave in search of the missing grandfather.

It wasn't long before I was able to pick up a faint sent of a human that had a similar blood smell to the girl in the woods. It was over a week old and he was moving a decent pace through the woods. Where were you going old man? Something must of spooked you for you to leave your family alone when Miranda showed up.

As I tried there was nothing that I could find that showed me exactly where the old man was heading and after about 10 miles I lost the scent of the man as he either disappeared or took a car. Either way the trail was lost. It seems I will have to stick near the girl and figure out what she is up too or kill her. Observing sounds more like fun right now and she is a very beautiful creature. As I wander back towards the ruins of the house my mind begins to wander to the times when I first became a vampire and how nice it was to have Miranda around. I thought I was in love with her but that was a silly notion on my part. As old as she is there was no way he would love me but still I thought she did. What is love to one who is been around for so long. I wonder if someone she loved so long ago was killed by this Owen's family and maybe that's why she wants them dead. There must be a reason she is so adamant this family dies for good. I need to find out more about this family and where they come from.

It was almost daylight when I made it back to the ruins and it seems the girl that is now the center of my life was starting to wake up. It seemed my very boring existence was about to become more fun and this girl will be the reason for it.

JESSIE

*~* Time and time again life throws a curve ball. You begin to think things are going good and then, BAM! Knocked back down to Earth and life sucks all over.*~*

The sun was starting to rise slowly into the sky and my stomach couldn't wait anymore for food. It grumbled in protest to my lack of food I have given it. Apples no longer interested me so I knew I had better find a way into the basement or I was going to starve. I sighed and ate another apple as I watched the sun rise. After I finished my simple breakfast the little hairs on the back of my neck started to stand up like someone was watching me. I decided to look around but I treated it as though I was deciding what I wanted to do. Even with my training that I have had I saw nothing out of the ordinary but that sinking feeling was still there. For the time being a decided to brush it off and get back to work.

"Now I'm getting paranoid. I just wish I knew where the basement entrance was. Well time to get moving or I won't eat again today!"

I rolled up my sleeves and started to move rubble. As the day went on the clouds moved in and made it was bit more bearable from the sun and the heat. I was sweating a lot and lack of real food was wearing on my strength. By late afternoon I managed to find what looked to be an entrance into the basement. I kept my excitement concealed until I knew for sure this is what I was looking for. As I moved the last of the rocks from the storm door I noticed it was locked.

"You have gotten to be kidding me! All this and its fucking locked!" I screamed in frustration then collapsed to my knees looking at the lock. There must be a way to get these doors off but at that point I could not think straight and my hunger and the heat was getting the best of me.

I sat there for what seemed only an hour but when I looked to the sky it was getting close to dusk. I got up and headed into the barn to see if there was anything left that I could use to either remove the lock or remove the hinges of one of the doors. It wasn't until I made into the loft where I was sleeping that I managed to find a crowbar. "Now that should work perfectly!" Finally, something was going right and my spirits were starting to lift. I ran back to the door and tried to break the lock. After a bit of prying the lock finally gave. I had never been more grateful of all the training my grandfather had put me through until now. A normal person would have collapsed after a couple of days of lack of sleep, water, and food but not me. Even though I was more than hungry and tired, I put that all aside when the lock finally gave. I grinned with glee and hurried to move the doors aside. I looked down the stairs to the darkness that lay below. The lights of course would not work because there is no house to have power to. I threw my hands up in frustration and then can my fingers through my hair. "Wonderful now where am I going to get a light?" I turned my head and looked to the sky and decided I would go back to the loft and in the morning search for something I could use to light my way down into the darkness. I laid the doors back closed and headed to get some rest and hopefully find something that could either help me find my grandfather or help me make it somewhere safer and warmer.

LANDON

This young female hunter keeps me interested into late in the day when she finally finds what she was looking for under her broken home. Her happiness is short lived when she realizes that she needs some form of light to get down where she wants to be. From my hiding spot in the trees I wait until I know she is long past asleep and make my way to her new-found area. Night vision has it perks. Time to see what this young girl is after down here. I head down into the basement area and find the next door to be locked. What to do? What to do? If I destroy this lock she was be very suspicious more so than she is now. I study the lock for a few minutes and decide to wait and see what she will do in the morning when she finds a light source that will get her down into her little area.

I turn and head back up the stairs and head to the barn to watch and study this young hunter. Something about her must bother Miranda something fierce and I want to know why she must die before I kill her. I wonder if I should kill her after she opens the door or should I wait and see what she is after. Miranda is the one who killed her family and if she is as big of a threat as I am led to believe maybe she can help me be finally free of her hold. A plan was forming and a smile crept onto my face. For the first time in 50 years I had hope of getting away from Miranda forever.
