Fire And The Flood

Chapter Four

Year 1998

"Ah!" Hermione let out a loud grasp. Her hand clenched Severus' larger hand as she tried to topple forward. His strong grip on her hand and a warm around her waist brought her back up to full hight. She left out a couple ragged breaths. Sweat dripped down her forward and back despite the relatively cooler weather. The pain was so overwhelming but she had to push through it. She clenched her teeth.

"You're doing great," His voice sounded like velvet in her ears. Once the tunnel had dissipated and she could see clearly again she wrapped her arm into his and the two continued the walk around the mansion. "You've already been able to increase your stamina compared to yesterday," Hermione nodded.

"Yes, but that was only two laps around the building.. and we're wanted war criminals," She laughed and Severus had to push down the smile wanting to form on his lips. Despite his previous thoughts on the gryffindor witch she wasn't as annoying as he previously thought. However her biggest down fall was her inability to be quite for longer the two minutes. Severus smirked at his thought as she took in a breathe to talk about some other "Hermione thought"

"I was thinking... We could probably use Bill's help as well as Griphooks to infiltrate Gringotts... He used to work there as a code breaker," Severus nodded his eye shifting to the window to the house. He watched Griphook from the corner of his eyes as he continued to help Hermione walk along. He hated to trash the poor girls hopes and dreams of all magical creatures coexisting. However, the ever growing fear in Griphooks thoughts led Severus to believe that the Goblin would be attacking the two of them long before he would be helping them break into a bank.

"That would be quite possible," Severus responded to just help the witch keep her mind off of the pain she was experiencing.

"I was thinking of brewing poly juice potion to help us get in," Severus raised his eye brow at her. "We have Bellatrix's wand... and I'm positive I have a pice of her hair."

Every day the young witch continued to surprise him. Somehow he couldn't help but thinking that if he were to come out on the other side of this war that he wouldn't mind meeting her for tea every once in awhile. His thoughts were ruined when he realized she still hadn't quit talking.

"But the real question is how are we ever going to get to Harry... or let him know where we are,"

"Leave that to me Miss. Granger,"

"Don't you think we're past those formalities yet, Severus?" He flinched slightly and she felt how uncomfortable he was. He swallowed hard and kept his eyes forward not wanting to answer her. Her stomach did flip flops. Why did she have to be so bold! Couldn't she just keep her mouth shut! This is exactly why she only had two friends! Lord haver mercy!

It had been three days since Harry had landed at shell cottage. It had been three days of racking his brain on why the hell he would listen to what Snape had said to him. The last time he had seen the man he had been holding him at wand point wanting to murder him. Yet some how something told him to trust him. Something had told him to trust the greasy dungeon bat holding his best friend. It was her eyes. Her eyes told him to trust Snape. Her eyes held such certainty that they would be safe. The young man walked the coast back and forth. How would they be able to find them... Snape said he would find them. What is Hermione had taken more damage? What if she was injured... what if she was worse? He clinched his hands.

He turned and walked up the stone pathway to the cottage. It was a beautiful place but somehow he felt overwhelmingly alone. This was not what he attended when he set out on this journey. He some how expected differently. What was he thinking? As he made it to the door and opened in a corporeal patronus walked through the door in the form of a doe. The same doe that led Harry to the sword of gryffindor. He raced in after it. In the living room every was sitting around it waiting for the message. Who's patronus was it? Harry knew Hermione's took the form of an otter.

"Potter, I will meet you tomorrow at 6am at the pub in Tinworth. Bring Bill; Hermione has an idea. I will give your coordinates to our location so you can follow. I do not wish to leave Hermione for longer then need be. Do not be late."

The room stood quite. Severus Snape was on their side. Had he always been? What changed? But Harry was sure he had seen him murder Dumbledore. He turned to see that Fleur and Bill were already discussing what there next corse of action would be. Severus Snape had led them to a weapon that would help them. Severus Snape gave up his plush position to save his best friend. Wait... Severus Snape was calling his best friend Hermione!
