Chapter 4

"What are you doing?" Kylo raised his light sabre at the unmasked storm trooper, but he froze.

"He was just telling me stories" Rey was sitting up now her hands in front of Finn. "He's my friend" Her voice came out panicked as she protected her friend. She'd done it, she'd used the force to hold Kylo Ren in place, her eyes filled with desperation.

A high pitch scream rang through the room it took Kylo a second to recover from his frozen stupor before he even realized it was Rey who had been screaming. The storm trooper had his hands on her shoulders trying to see what was wrong with her, but Kylo could sense it.

"Snoke" Kylo pushed into her mind sensing his Master's presence. It was eerily silent in her mind, no voices and he couldn't see anything, but then he felt it. A shredding through his mind unlike any torture he'd ever endured from Snoke before.

"You wretched child, show me!" Snoke's voice rippled through the silence of Rey's mind. In that instance it occurred to Ren that she was resisting his Master. He couldn't shield her without Snoke noticing his presence but he did what he could to help number her body from feeling the pain. He pulled himself back from her mind being relieved of the tearing pain as he turned to the Storm Trooper.

"I need a medical Droid, now" Kylo commanded. "I have a personal one in my training room" Finn didn't hesitate he jumped off the couch and ran without bothering to replace his helmet.

Kylo laid Rey down on the sofa her screaming had finally stopped but he knew she was still curling in on herself in pain. "I'm getting you help Rey, just hold on" He whispered to her running his hands through her hair.

'How could this have happened? She was doing so well holding her walls up. Kylo ran through the moments after he'd come into the room. 'She dropped her walls to protect that trooper' His mind darkened. FN-2187 was to blame for this thought of revenger flashed before him but he reconsidered, if Rey calmed down and learned her new friend had been murdered at his hand he wasn't sure she would trust him again.

Then FN-2187 burst back into the room medical droid in tow. Kylo ignored the trooper and focused his attention on the droid. "She needs a nerve block and pain killers" His experience with Snoke's torture let him know what would help relieve her without lowering her walls to much. As much as he wanted her to be pain free he knew right now that lessening the pain was more realistic.

The droid went to work on Rey scanning her. "There are no reports of trauma" It said mechanically to Ren.

"Do it or you'll be in pieces and I won't put you back together this time." The droid went back to following his command prepping her for the treatment. "Restrain" It commanded.

"2187 hold her shoulders down, don't let her move no matter what" Ren instructed as he took Rey's head between his hands hold it up straight. Finn didn't the same with her shoulders holding firmly.

A long needle appeared out of one of the droids appendages and sunk itself in Rey's neck. The danger passed after a few seconds when the droid connected a line of dripping fluid covering the exposed IV with a protective gauze. Kylo felt her body relax slightly.

"give her a drug that will help with the rest of the pain" He barked to the droid. The droid produced a shot filled with a murky yellow liquid and injected it into Rey's arm. It only took a minute before Rey's body went limp the weight of her head falling on his hands.

"What was that?" Finn questioned looking at Ren, he wasn't sure if it was his place to ask but his concern for the child was getting the better of him.

"Snoke wants her. She was hiding from him but when she stopped me from cutting you in half she must have let him in by mistake" Kylo explained his adrenaline from the situation fading. "He must have been waiting for her defenses to crack, but he was looking for something in her mind and he couldn't find it" Kylo let out a sigh as he let himself fall to the floor in exhaustion. He hadn't felt panic like that in ages, not since he left the academy… not since everything that night happened.

Kylo looked over the storm trooper before him and noticed his exhaustion as well and he had to ask. "How did her training go?"

The trooper looked surprised, he'd nearly forgotten just a couple of hours ago the broken child on the sofa had been nearly holding her own against him. "She isn't as unskilled as a child her age should be, knocked me on my ass in two minutes flat." Kylo watched the memory through the troopers mind, if Finn had noticed he didn't show it. "She's a special girl" Finn thought as he recalled their training session. He had known Kylo was curious and probing him so he decided to make this easier for the both of them.

"She named you? And you let her?" Ren was surprised, maybe this trooper needed reconditioning more than he'd realized.

"It was her will and she was in charge" He smirked at Ren. Kylo didn't care greatly for this trooper but he did respect that Finn wasn't going to back away from him.

"I will remove the recommendation for reconditioning from your file. If I have to I'll discuss it with Captain Cardinal myself" It was Kylo's way of thanking the trooper for his help without saying the words. "I want you to train Rey regularly. I saw you practicing in the gym and you're the best fighter in your class she is strong but she's going to need more help" Finn nodded in agreement and they both looked over to Rey as if they had the same thought 'She's strong, but not strong enough'

Kylo dismissed the trooper back to his quarters and continued his watch over Rey checking her mind every so often to see the progress. She was still in pain but it was manageable now and Snoke's voice was shrinking to the back of her mind. Ben couldn't help but wonder what it was Snoke was looking for, it was more than just her location he was sorting through her mind for a memory. When she was well he could have to ask if she had any ideas. He fell asleep that night sitting on the floor his head resting on the sofa next to hers and as they both managed a peaceful sleep, Rey's because Snoke was finally out of her mind yet again and Ren because Rey was so close to him.

Rey didn't move a hint the following day Kylo's concern left him poking into her mind and he stopped when he felt her at peace, she was just still healing. He couldn't ignore his duties on her second day of unconsciousness so he called the trooper Finn back to the room to look after her while he went to face his master.

Kylo entered the dark room where his master was projected he repressed every thought and memory of Rey so his master wouldn't see it. Hux appeared at his side and his master spoke.

"We have found the location of the map to Skywalker, it turns out we weren't far from it on our last mission." Snoke voice came out gravely and almost tired. It took all Ren's control not to think of Rey.

"I want you to retrieve it, I have sources that say a resistance pilot is on his way there as we speak, go" He commanded of Hux and with a quick box Hux turned and left to prepare for the new mission. "Kylo I don't want to hear of any survivors this time" Kylo could hear the underlying threat in Snoke's voice and he nodded before turning and leaving to prepare.

Kylo returned to his room to find the trooper masked and standing before him. "I've been called away for a mission" Kylo nodded and the trooper left.

"Alright Rey, I have to go I trust you'll be okay here. Be strong for me" He pleaded in a whisper to the child as he gently pushed her mind towards sweet dreams. He gave her a vision of a place he'd enjoyed as a child. His families vacation home on Naboo, it sat in a large field filled with a rainbow assortment of wild flowers in the distance a large lake. He left her mind there as he left for his mission.

The mission didn't go well, but they did manage to capture a resistance pilot. A snarky man with a mouth that wouldn't stop running. Ren ordered him to be taken and interrogated until he confessed what he did with the map. Ren could sense Finn's distain for his orders to kill all the villagers and he knew the storm trooper refused to follow the command.

By the time Kylo made it back to his room he was happy to know Rey was returning to consciousness, slowly but she was coming back. He stopped the pain numbing fluids that had been running into her. She looked up at him dreamily.

"I saw you" Her voice came out cracked and dry. He went to retrieve her a glass of water returning to her bending down beside her. "You were a small boy, you were so different" She whispered it to him looking away from him. He realized his mistake, he hadn't left her in Naboo he'd left her in his memory.

She showed him the memory projecting it for him loosely her mind still fuzzy from the pain and then the drugs.

She stood in the yard of a great house that was covered with large windows overlooking the field and the lake. She heard a rustling in the field behind her and turned to see a small boy peeking out from the tall field of flowers spying on her.

"Hello?" Rey called to him and he stepped out. She stepped back a little as she realized who she was looking at. He was still taller than her by several inches his black hair was still shaggy but not as long as it was now and his dark eyes were still filled with wonder and curiosity. He felt lighter but there was still darkness in him. Instead of being a night sky littered with stars it felt more like a beautiful sunny day with sparse clouds.

"Who are you?" Rey smiled, his voice was a much higher pitch than it was in her life now.

"I am Rey, you are Ben?" She was asking more to confirm the name he would go by here and he nodded.

"Ben!" It was the gruff voice of a man coming from the house behind her and she turned to look. She could see his resemblance to Ben but he was lighter, his hair and his eyes both a deep brown rather than the blackness of his son.

"Where did you come from?" Hans voice had a touch of concern with an edge of threat to it and Rey sunk back away from him. He was worried about Ben. Ben hadn't been acting like himself lately and this girl appearing was to strange to Han. Their home was the only one for miles they had chosen such an isolated place so people wouldn't just appear and yet here she was.

"Um, I-" But Rey was interrupted as a woman her.

"Oh Han calm down she's just a child" Rey hadn't even seen the woman come out of the house but there she was, beautiful her hair was twisted into a beautiful braided bun. Rey thought her clothes were a bit odd for the summery surroundings, the woman for a gray romper and a brown vest. Another thing that struck Rey was that this woman looked far more aged than the man and Ben. "don't let him scare you, he's harmless" She bent down to Rey's height and smiled her brown eyes were full of love. Rey thought if she had a mother she would want her to look just like this woman before her. "You are force sensitive aren't you?" Rey nodded still feeling intimidated by the tall man standing behind Leia. "My Benny is too, will you take care of him?" Rey nodded, this dream was beginning to feel weird less like a dream she could feel the woman's presence far stronger than she should be able too. Leia smiled, "It's okay, I am not very strong in the force so this won't last." And Rey realized this woman was with her now through the force, somehow, they had become connected. "Be safe child, don't lose that light and May the force be with you" the woman's voice faded and fuzzy so did she, then Han and then everything left around her including a young Ben became fuzzy and vanished.

Just like that the dream was over. Ben looked a combination of shocked and angry Rey swallowed hard in concern, she hadn't seen Ben look so angry at her like he was now.

"Oh that woman" He spat standing back up and walking away from her. "she was never around and now she decides to appear." His fury made Rey feel cold inside, she remembered a time when Unkar Plutt had become furious over being scammed by some pirates his fury had led him to strike her across the face. She'd only been five at the time and had just been in the wrong place at the wrong time and she became the outlet for his anger. As Plutt had beat her he repeated over and over that she was nothing and she deserved nothing. He told her to be grateful for what he so generously gave her. When he'd finished abusing her he left her with a full portion. He'd paid her like she was a prostitute, he used her body for his own pleasure and left her in the sand with broken ribs and a concussion but a broken part of her was grateful to have been given the gift of food.

Kylo was to absorbed in his own rage to realize the fear he was provoking in his apprentice. He hadn't even realized this would be the first time she'd seen him angry and throwing a fit. A knock on his chamber door caused him to stop as he answered.

"Sir the prisoner refuses to speak, even with our persuasions. Hux has asked for your methods" It was a man dressed in all black standing tall and straight. Neither Kylo or the general at the door gave her attention and Kylo returned his helmet to his head and stormed out of the room without a word to her. Rey felt her heart pounding, what had just happened. A prisoner? Her mind was reeling with questions and fear. Kylo was angry at her for the dream she had. She made to sit up and swayed as she turned her feet to the floor. She still wasn't feeling her body properly. She felt a tube connected to her neck and thought that must have been what was causing her numbness and without hesitation she pulled it out. Pulling this thing out of her neck made her feel woozy and she swayed a little again but ignored it and stood up slowly using the arms of the sofa for support. Her legs felt so week, her body wasn't on the same plain as her mind and right now they seemed to be working against each other. She took two steps towards the door and collapsed. She tried to pick herself up but her arms and legs shook under the weight of her body and kept falling in on themselves. She was stuck on the floor, she started to feel panic that she couldn't move she was trapped now when the door to the room opened and a storm trooper was staring down at her.

"Rey" She let out the breath she'd been holding, it was Finn. "You need to lay down what are you doing?" Finn pulled his helmet off and dropped it to the floor as he fell to his knee's in front of her pulling her in a cradle.

"He's angry at me" She whispered shamefully. "I think his mother came to me and he's so angry at me" She had tears in her eyes now and Finn pulled her closer to him his white armor was cold through her robes but she liked the idea of this hug.

"He told me to come to you, he was going to one of the interrogation rooms and he commanded me to come watch you" Finn explained. "Kylo Ren is known for his temper, he's not good at controlling Rey" He paused for a moment, hesitated. "Rey, I am planning on leaving here. I think you should come with me" He said it in such a whisper that Rey almost hadn't heard him, but she could feel the panic rising in him. "The Supreme Leader is after you, you won't be safe her and I'm worried Kylo will hurt you and if not him someone will find you" She felt his concern and worry for her, it was like a warm ray of light compared to Kylo's icy anger and for a second she wanted to go, but then she remembered her dream.

"I can't" She shook her head and looked up at him eyes filled with apology. "Kylo needs me, I have to take care of him like he takes care of me. I know he won't hurt me" She was confident of that, if he was going to hurt her he would have done it after seeing the vision of his mother coming to her.

"I was scared you might say something like that" Finn whispered shaking his head he placed her back on the couch gently then turned to the medical droid. "Sedate her." He commanded and it reacted a syringe with the same murky yellow medication from before appearing as it approached her.

"Finn!" She screamed as he moved to sit up Finn shook his head and held her down as the droid injected her yet again in her arm. It took seconds this time for the fluids to do their job and she was out cold. Finn returned his trooper helmet and picked her up leaving the chambers. He knew exactly where he was going, he just had to make sure he avoided running into any offices or worse the dark knight himself on his way down to the interrogation room to find the rebel pilot.
