Alanna picked up the cards that lay on the table and gave a wicked grin. Jon frowned; there was something in that grin that let slip a little…. over-confidence.
'Alan, you rigged the cards!' he accused her.
She looked up with a mischievous smile. 'Would I do that, your Majesty?'
'Most probably,' Jon grumbled, glancing at the cards she had just laid down. Yes, she had rigged the cards again – a pair of aces.
'George taught me,' she murmured, glancing distractedly at something on the wall behind him. 'I wouldn't lie to you.' It was even lower-pitched then the first comment, and suddenly, the room had become intimate. 'I promise.'
