Alfred's POV

Chapter 4:

The meeting room was quiet once Mattie and I entered, only a few of the other nations in the room. What surprised me the most was, that, Arthur wasn't there. He normally was one of the first people in the room, even if the meeting was held some place other than his home country - always the first in the room. I took a glance over the room just to double check, to see if he really wasn't there. Perhaps he was just hiding or something of the sort.

But no, Arthur was no where to be found.

Shrugging it off, I did another take around the room to actually focus on the faces and see who was here. Arthur would be here eventually, there was no need to worry - and why should I even worry about it?

Ludwig was here, including Kiku and Yao. Roderich was also sitting down, going through his papers as Gilbert kept trying to bother him - one of his favorite pastimes, I assumed. Natalia was here as well, yet, it surprised me that neither of her siblings were in the room. Feliciano, as well as Lovino, who, I might add, didn't look quite happy this afternoon, were sitting beside one another, Feliciano chatting up a storm as Lovino gave a few grunts here and there, showing that he was indeed listening to the conversation.

"Ah, Matthieu!"

I rose a brow in question, glancing over to see a wide grin spread out on Francis' lips as he approached Mattie, who also seemed to be sporting his own smile as well. I wasn't quite sure what he said in greeting to the Frenchman, for I turned on my heel to head over to someone to talk to - it wasn't everyday I got to see everyone in the same room, after all.

Pulling out my designated seat for the meeting, I plopped down in it, letting a soft sigh escape me. Half of the people weren't even here yet - wait, no correction - more than half of the people weren't here. A good three fourths or so were still missing, but, the meeting also wasn't going to start for another half hour, forty fives minutes give or take.

"You look tired, Alfred. How late did you stay up last night, hm?"

Blinking, I put my attention on the girl sitting next to me and what would you know, there was Elizaveta with a small smile on her face, one of her brows up in question. I chuckled in response, shaking my head the slightest bit.

"I didn't stay up real late at all, actually. I passed out before midnight," I told her, watching as her other brow shot up to join the one already raised up in question. "Crazy, I know."

Now it was her turn to let out a laugh, quietly, rolling her eyes in a playful manner as well. It was a joke between the two of us, since we started talking just the slightest bit more - but it was like we would try to hang out with one another outside of meetings, only during these meetings would we ever speak to one another, really. I never really stayed up late at all, but she would always joke around with me that I did. Yeah, I've pulled all nighters before when I'm not busy the next day and got a level to beat on a video game, but hey, I wasn't always like that.

"Insane," she teased. Reaching out, I pushed her lightly, the smile still managing to stay on my face.

"Oh shut up."

She shot me a playful look before turning her attention elsewhere, probably to speak with Lili - whom I just noticed was also in the room as well, or perhaps Ludwig. Whoever, it's not like she just had to speak to those select few.

As I turned my gaze away from Elizaveta, I noticed Natalia sitting across from me, her arms folded firmly across her chest as her gaze was directed elsewhere, staring off at something. My grin softened as I stood up a bit from my seat, leaning across the table, hand reaching out and gently poked the tip of her nose. It snapped her out of her thoughts, a look of surprise washing over her features before her dark blue hues laid upon me. Her brows furrowed together the slightest bit, a small crease forming in between them, and I could tell, even if she didn't voice anything quite yet, that she was quite upset that I brought her back to reality - and also wondering why I did.

"Hey, Nat," I greeted, smiling a bit wider.

"Good afternoon, Alfred."

More people were starting to pile in the room as I sat back down, propping up my chin on the palm of my hand as my elbow rested atop the table. "Where's your bro and sister? I don't see 'em," I noted, moving my other hand around the room.

Natalia simply stared at me, unfolding her arms to prop her chin up as well by using both her hand, interlocking them together before a soft sigh escaped past her faintly tinted rosy lips. "They're not always around me, Alfred."

"I know that, Nat. I was simply askin'," I gave a shrug, noticing how the corners of her lips twitched up the slightest bit. "Can't blame a guy for being curious, now, can ya?"

Her lips were pursed for a moment, hues darting to somewhere behind me before returning back to me. "You, I can blame." I was about to voice my protests when she cut me off. "I was simply kidding, Alfred. Don't start whining."

I smiled. "Yeah, I knew that." And she gave me that look where she knew that I didn't.

"Now where is Arthur, hm?"

"He's the only one missing, everyone else seems to be here already."

Blinking, I glanced around the room to see that, in fact, everyone was already here. There was Ivan and his other sister, the Nordics, Mei and Bella - everyone was accounted for, except for Arthur.

"That's weird," I mumbled to myself, taking another glance around the room, just to double check.

Yet, as I glanced around again, I couldn't help but shake off this weird feeling. It was almost as if the room had gotten colder, as if winter came early. Something was wrong, something was different; something was out of the ordinary, and it wasn't a good sign.

"Miss me?"
