Chapter 4
You Changed
He turned around and I gasped. There was a scar that ran down across his left eye. My eyes widened and he didn't smile.
"Auron…."
"Much has happened since last we met Amahy."
I walked forward and looked closely.
"Who did this to you?"
"It doesn't matter. You've really grown Amahy."
I smiled a bit.
"I take it your traveling from Spira to Tidus' Zanarkand has made you look older than 23."
"How did you know about that?"
"I saw it. In a dream. I've always had that little extra ability."
He chuckled.
"You've always been special. You look beautiful, just like your mother."
I smiled and nodded. I did look like my mother, but no one ever really complimented me. I just went forward and hugged him.
"I always knew you were still alive. Nothing could kill you."
He held his breath and I frowned. I looked at him and he wouldn't meet my gaze.
"Auron? What is it?"
"Nothing. Where is Yuna and that smaller version of Jecht?"
I laughed a little.
"Tidus is playing for the Besaid Aurochs. Yuna went to cheer him on."
He nodded. There was a rather awkward silence before I spoke again.
"So why did you go to Zanarkand?"
"To look over Tidus. Jecht asked me to 10 years ago."
I nodded. Before I could say anything else, I heard screams from the stadium.
"YUNA!" I shouted.
Auron and I ran up there. There were fiends attacking from nowhere.
"Stay back Amahy!"
I frowned. I took my blades and stood at his side.
"I said get back!"
"Why the hell would I do that!?"
He killed a large fiend and then looked at me.
"I promised your father I would keep you and your sister safe!"
My eyes widened and then I glared at him.
So he only came back because my father asked him to. And to think that I…. Well it doesn't matter anymore.
I ran to find Yuna. He called after me but I ignored him and I fought back tears. When I found Yuna, she was safe with Lulu.
"Yuna!"
"Amahy are you alright?" she asked.
"I'm fine. Where's Wakka and Tidus?"
"They're still in the Sphere pool." Lulu answered.
I looked over but then I saw that Seymour walk up. He held out his arms and summoned a very large aeon. It was a hideous looking things with the image of a beautiful woman on it. It killed all the fiends and I became suspicious. Everyone else was amazed and I just walked away. I went towards the Mihen Highroad, knowing everyone would eventually gather there. I went to the railing and stared at out at Luca. From up there I could see everything. I saw the others start heading up. I looked at Lulu.
"Does anyone know where the fiends came from?" I asked her.
"No, no one is quite sure. But Maester Mika is safe, thanks to Maester Seymour." she said.
I couldn't care less about their safety.
"Maester Seymour's aeon…it was so powerful." Yuna said.
I rolled my eyes and then Auron and Tidus started walking towards us.
"Whoa!" said Wakka.
"Sir Auron!" Yuna said.
I scowled and turned away. I heard them bow and then Auron spoke.
"Yuna…"
"Sir?"
"I wish to become your guardian, do you accept?" he asked.
I closed my eyes.
"You serious?" Wakka asked.
"You refuse?" he asked.
I felt a little hopeful they would.
"No, no! We accept right everyone? Amahy?" Yuna said.
I looked over my shoulder.
"Do what you wish Yuna. I told you I would always support you. But don't ask me to like him." I said.
"Amahy…."
I walked further away. They continued to talk and then Tidus came over to me.
"You okay? You seemed a bit…."
"Angry? I usually am. Though this would be a special case. And what about you? You seem a little upset as well."
He sighed and I looked at him.
"Did Auron say something to you?" I asked.
He just nodded and I glared at Auron. Tidus was my friend and I was beginning to trust him.
"What did he say?"
"I….I don't know how to say it."
I looked down, then I put my hand on his shoulder.
"You need time to take it in. I understand that. You can tell me anything. You're my friend Tidus, you can trust me."
He nodded and I walked away as Yuna walked over. I winked at my sister and she blushed. Auron looked at me.
"Amahy will you please let me explain?"
I sighed.
"You have two minutes, fill them with words." I said.
"Amahy your father asked me to look after you and Yuna. Just like Jecht asked me to look after his son. Not only that, I wanted to protect you."
I walked up the steps and he followed.
"Amahy stop!"
He grabbed my arm and I looked at him again.
"I don't need anyone to protect me! I have Kimhari and I am perfectly capable of protecting myself. Not only that, but Braska should have been here to protect Yuna and I himself! We were seven years old for goodness sake! Yuna may not have been picked on but I was! Just because I am half Al-Behd! People were cruel to me and I had no mother or father to protect me. I needed to be protected then, not now!" I snapped.
He let go of me then.
Auron's POV
I let her go and I felt a bit broken inside. Though I would never show it, I was sad. I had hope that Amahy would understand if I explained things a bit. I guess I was wrong.
"She tear you a new one old man?"
I growled and walked away form Tidus.
I swear he is just like his father!
Amahy completely ignored me as we walked down the Highroad. When we came to a shop I decided we would rest here.
"What? But this is an Al-Behd shop!" Wakka said.
I turned on him.
"And you have a problem with them?"
I sounded too harsh and I knew that. But after what Amahy had told me about her childhood…..I had little patience for things like this.
"They…they don't believe in Yevon and in Luca they….they kidnapped Yuna!"
"Come again?!" Amahy asked.
"We would've told you but we couldn't find you." said Lulu.
"Well at least she's safe now." she said.
"And where were her guardians?" I asked.
They all looked down or away. I sighed shook my head.
"Sir Auron's just worried about your health." Yuna said.
Amahy snorted and Wakka stuck his nose up.
"I'm not tired one bit!" he said.
"Well I am." I said.
I turned and walked away.
"He's just like you Amahy!" Wakka said.
I coughed to hide my laughter and shook my head. Yuna laughed and when she suddenly I stopped I saw Amahy walk off. I sighed sadly knowing it was my fault she was so upset. I saw Yuna walk over to her but she just sent her away. Yuna then walked over to me.
"Sir Auron?"
I looked at her.
"Amahy is really upset and seems to be hurting. She's always liked you could you…."
"Yuna, I am the reason she is so upset."
She looked at Amahy and then back at me.
"You don't understand. She talked about you all of the time. She really cares about you." She whispered.
I was shocked by this. I looked at Amahy and Yuna left. I found myself walking forward until I was behind her.
"Auron…" she said.
I took a deep breath and walked forward. I wanted to reach out and take her hand, but I didn't. Now that I was there I didn't know what to say.
Amahy's POV
He didn't say anything and he didn't walk away. I sighed and slowly turned to look at him.
"What do you want 'sir' Auron?" I asked.
He stepped closer.
"My name is Auron, Amahy. Not sir Auron." he said.
I nodded. He seemed to notice how close we were and stepped back. Now I was a little confused.
"What is it?" I asked.
He turned away.
"It's nothing."
I sighed.
"I heard what Yuna said. Even though she was whispering I heard her. And I'll tell you know what she said is true."
He stood very still, almost as though he was a statue. Finally he spoke,
"We can never be together Amahy."
His words broke my heart. He started to walk away.
"You changed Auron. Whatever happened to you…..it changed you. But my feelings won't change." I whispered.
I looked to my left and saw Tidus and Yuna sitting together. I smiled and then looked at the setting sun.
"I never stopped trying for you when I was a child. And I won't stop now. I don't care what happened in the past, I will keep trying for you Auron." I said.
And I would try.
