Chapter 3: One Hell of a Night
Third Person POV
The tension between everyone was slowing down gradually. Winston had ordered everyone in his pack to stay inside.
Eventually the pack had started to be in stable order. With the exception for one major thing, Humphrey. Whoever left him at her father's den eventually left, after having their own panic attack of course. Kate was trying to make a feeble attempt at healing his head wound.
She didn't necessarily always like him, but he was still her friend. And her father always told her that she was responsible for anyone in the pack.
Her father was attending to more important matters on the other side of the den. He was talking to the other pack leader, Tony. They must've decided to set aside their ego's to help out the other pack. Winston then came over to where his daughter was trying to heal Humphrey.
"You know Kate, I really think you should get some rest. It's starting to get pretty cloudy, might not be able to even make it home." The elder wolf said.
Kate was oblivious to what he said but kept tending to Humphrey's wounds. She knew herself that he might not survive his head trauma.
Winston was going to say something before he was interrupted by his wife.
"Honey just leave her alone, plus they've returned." She whispered in his ear.
Winston turned around to notice two wolves standing at the entrance of his den. He went to go greet the both of them before he was interrupted by the blackish-red wolf.
"If you think that we're apologizing then you're dead wrong. We have much different intentions." The unknown wolf said. This caused everyone to look away from what they were doing and glance at the scene in front of them.
"We've returned at the first sounds of gunfire. Judging by the chaos we can tell that a couple wolves may be injured." A second wolf said. "We brought two medics from our squad just in case." He said pointing to two wolves behind him.
Winston was in disbelief of how prepared they were in a crisis like this. Instead he just shook it off and pointed to Humphrey with Kate standing right next to him. "That black-furred wolf right there needs a lot of help."
"Okay then, Lakota please attend to his injuries. And Connor help anyone else out."
"Sir, Yes Sir!" Both wolves exclaimed. The female wolf most presumably named Lakota moved over to the unconscious wolf, who's head was covered in blood.
Kate moved away from Humphrey to avoid any awkward conversation with the other female. She moved over to where her father and the two other wolves were talking.
"Kate I'd like you to meet two important wolves..." He pointed to the one on the left. "Commander Blitz..."
"Pleasure to be of assistance." He said. Blitz looked oddly familiar to Kate she couldn't figure out who he looked like. He had a muscular yet slim look. His fur seemed to shine a metallic-black because of the night. He looked as old if not older than Winston.
"And Commander Echo" Winston said as he pointed to Echo.
"How you doing good-looking." He exclaimed. This prompted several bad looks from Winston and a growl from Eve. Leaving Kate blushing madly. "Jeez, I was just kidding. I don't know why every wolf wants to take me so seriously." He said. Echo looked infinitely younger than Blitz but looked to be around Kate's age. His fur was pitch black with red streaks on his chest and face. His body was streamlined yet seemed to be very muscular.
"Now that introductions are over with. Kate, I believe it's time that you learn about your brother, Winter. But I think we should go someplace more quieter." Pointing towards the ruckus going on in his den.
The party of wolves went outside of the den.
"Oh boy, story time." Echo said sarcastically. Did Kate mishear her dad say Commander, because right now he is acting annoying.
The elder wolf began by clearing his throat. "Kate, your brother was truly outstanding with his set of skills. Outsmarting everyone in combat. The reason he got kicked out was his involvement in Echo and Blitz's pack or the Phantom Squadron."
Echo was the next one to speak because he knew more on the matter. "Throughout our squad's history we always haven't been the nicest group. Before us, our predecessor's Diablo and Hellfire were complete psychopaths. Your brother Winter helped us overthrow both of them. However he wanted to stay in our squad and help out." Kate thought to herself, "Holy Shit, Echo actually said something intelligent for once."
"About Winter, he died in the gunfire..." Winston stated flatly.
"We know, I guess he'll just have to be replaced."
