Sasuke paced anxiously as Sakura packed for her mission. "Relax Sasuke-kun. I'll be fine. It's just a simple A-rank. I should be back in three days." Sakura said as she continued to pack. "What if you're injured? What if you die?" Sasuke replied. Sakura rolled her eyes. "I've come back half-dead and gone to work two shifts at the hospital the next day. Relax. I'll be fine." She said soothingly. "Be careful and don't do anything stupid. I don't want to raise our son alone." Sasuke retorted. Sakura smiled. "I won't." She replied as she kissed the worried Uchiha lightly.
"He's damned clingy." Naruto said when Sakura finally came out to leave. "He's worried. Sasuke hasn't been here for four years. He doesn't know what to expect." Sakura replied. "He's gonna be in for a surprise then. You're not weak anymore Sakura. He'll be fine." Naruto said. Sakura sighed. "I hope so. He's so human now." She replied. "He will be." Naruto promised her. Their third and fourth teammates snorted lightly at the seeming role reversal before they headed out. "You two behave." Sakura chided.
"What do we need four men for anyway?" Sakura asked. "We're tracking S-class nuke-nin." Naruto replied. Sakura sobered. "So this isn't an A-rank after all?" She asked. "Not anymore. It was until the Intel Squad got back." Naruto replied. Sakura nodded. "Good thing I packed Anbu then." She said. Naruto nodded. "Yeah it is. Now let's move out." He replied.
Sakura panted harshly behind her mask as she scanned the clearing intently. "Kitsune? Are you harmed?" She asked. "Negative Neko. Inu and Usagi were separated from us." Naruto replied. Sakura cursed softly and closed her eyes. She felt for Kakashi and Tenten's chakra and sighed in relief when she sensed them nearby. "Inu and Usagi are ten yards to the left Kitsune." Sakura said. The two headed to meet up with them when the S-class nuke-nin attacked. Sakura took the brunt of the attack and while she damaged her attacker badly enough that Naruto could finish him off easily, she took serious damage as well. "Neko!" Naruto cried as he caught the unconscious kunoichi. Kakashi and Tenten found them again and the dark haired girl helped Naruto stabilize Sakura for transport while Kakashi killed the remaining ninja.
Sasuke paced anxiously waiting for Sakura to return to him safe and uninjured. He knew it was a civilian's dream but he could hope couldn't he? Taki was beside him. "If mama comes home injured, it means she did her job. That's what Uncle Naruto always told me." The young Uchiha said. "She's a medic. Her job is to come home unharmed." Sasuke replied. "She's not a medic only. Mama is a ninja." Taki said.
Sasuke's heart dropped when he saw three shinobi run through the village with the fourth in their arms, her hair silver in the moonlight. "Will she be ok?" He asked. "Yes. Mama is a fighter. She's lived through worse." Taki replied. "What's worse than that?" He indicated the running shinobi. "You leaving her." Taki replied. Sasuke was silent. Taki was young. He didn't understand. Sasuke couldn't fault him for feeling that way. He felt that leaving Sakura was the worst thing he could have done. But he still did it. Because he had been a foolish, foolish boy back then.
Chapter Four has been completed. Enjoy.
