Chapter 4

Scars Of The Dead

Sakura, Sasuke, Naruto and Shikamaru sat around as they gazed at the tv. It was the mayor of Konoha talking to a news reporter.

"Sir, what can you tell us about the break out?" The female asked a question to the mayor.

'Break out? So Naruto and Shikamaru were right about Konoha.' Sakura glanced over at Sasuke and noticed that he was focusing on the television as well but other than that, she couldn't read what he was thinking.

"We don't know much at this time but we are trying to get the solulton to this problem as soon as possible." The mayor responded.

"Is it airborne?" Another reported asked.

"We don't know... but everyone should just stay in their homes. Excuse me." The mayor excused himself from the conference while ignoring the people's comments.

"Wow that gave us a lot of information." Sakura rolled her eyes, her comment dripping with sarcasm.

"Tell me about it." Sasuke agreed. Sakura just realized something and turned to Sasuke.

"Do you think this has anything to do with what happened with Kurenai?" Sakura asked.

"Who is Kurenai?" Naruto yelled then Sakura responded to tell him and Shikamaru what had happened the night before.

"Wow this is too odd! It's like we are in a horror movie or something! Don't worry everyone, I will become the hero and get the girl of my dreams." Naruto placed his hands on his hips and grinned.

"Idiot, if we were in a horror movie, you would be dead in the first five minutes." Shikamaru rolled his eyes, causing Sakura to giggle.

"Whatever, at least my dream is better than watching clouds all day. Hey Sakura, you can be that girl if you want." Naruto walked closer to Sakura, causing her to stop her actions and stared at the blonde. Sasuke glared at the male then glanced around and noticed a cell phone laying on the counter. Sasuke walked over and noticed the pink back cover and figured it belonged to Sakura.

"Does this belong to you?" Sasuke flashed the phone in front of Sakura's face, causing her to smile and snatch the phone out of his hands.

"Thank you Sasuke! I thought I lost it." Sakura giggled.

"Sorry Sakura, I saw that phone earlier upstairs so I had brought it down here. Do you forgive me? I'll protect you from these zombies! Believe it!" Naruto yelled but Sakura ignored the blonde and looked at her phone and noticed she had five missed called from Sasori and 2 voicemails. Sakura stepped out of the room and went outside while dialing her voicemail.

"Sakura, it's me... I'm caught up with something at work. Something happened and I think it will be best if you get out of the city and get a hotel. I can't go into details but trust me on this. Talk to you later."

Sakura's eyes widen and wondered why Sasori wanted her to get out of the city. She clicked the option to check the second voicemail.

"Sakura answer your phone! There was an outbreak at work and they are going to quarenteen the city. I'm hoping you got my previous message and got out while you can. There's too many of them and- "Sasori we have to hurry!" "Okay Itachi, I'm coming. Sakura, I have to go."

Sakura closed her phone and stared in disbelief. She heard some footsteps and turned around to see Naruto walking up to her and stood in front of her so his body was facing the house.

"Sorry about what I said earlier. I know we just met and it's just bad timing right now." Naruto grinned then he started scratching the back of his neck.

'Damn right it's bad timing.' Sakura then noticed a older male zombie was slowly walking up the house.

"Oh my God," Sakura whispered, causing Naruto to turn around and saw the zombie approaching them.

"OH MY GOD!" Naruto grabbed the girl's hand ran back into Sasuke's house and closed the door and locked it. Sakura turned around to see Sasuke and Shikamaru walking over to them with weird look on their faces.

"Hurry, I saw a zombie outside. We need to barricade this place so they can't come in." Naruto started grabbing the nearest furniture and placing it in front of the door and Sakura decided to help him as well. Sakura didn't care if the other guys were helping but she did not want to die today, by zombies. Sakura placed her hand on a chair and felt a hand brush up to hers and looked up to see Sasuke looking down on her.

"How many did you see out there?" Sasuke asked as he helped Sakura move the chair over to the door.

"Only one but there could be more." Without hearing more of an explanation, Sasuke moved the furniture that Sakura had moved and went outside with a gun in his hand.

*bang* *bang*

Sakura shrieked and fell on the floor and covered her ears. She ignored the noises surrounding her until she was roughly pulled up and opened her eyes to See Sasuke looking down at her.

"What were you doing?" Sasuke whispered to her harshly but Sasuke noticed that Sakura was ignoring him.

"Are you okay Sakura? Sasuke got rid of the bad guys so there is no reason to be afraid," Naruto said as him and Shikamaru walked over to the duo.

"All I want right now is for my brother to be home but instead, I'm stuck with a suicidal girl, an idiot and a stoner." Sasuke let go of Sakura's arm and shook his head as he walked up stairs.

"What are we going to do about the zombies?" Naruto yelled out and the only response he got was the door being slammed.

"Naruto, lets think of a plan then get out of here. I think we overstayed our welcome." Shikamaru walked back over to the living room where the news was still playing.

"Yeah, lets think of a plan Sakura. You can join our group." Naruto smiled at the girl but Sakura looked away. The pink haired girl sighed and ran into the kitchen, grabbed the biggest kitchen knife she could find and rushed out of the house, ignoring Naruto's pleas.

'Screw Sasuke, I don't need him.' Sakura looked around and noticed that there were no zombies to be seen except for the one that Sasuke had shot in the head. She started to dial Sasori's number while walking down ther street. Sakura sighed when Sasori didn't answer and went to voicemail.

"Sasori, it's Sakura. Sorry I missed your call but I had a really weird night. Basically I am a hour away from Konoha. I met a guy that took me to his house that lives out in the Country. I know it sounds bad but it's not. Sai's parents live fifteen minutes from here so I'm going to go see if they are home. Call me."

Sakura closed up her phone and continued to walk, not even taking another glance at Sasuke's home. Sakura was just thankful that she had recognized this area.

"I can't believe she left like that! Do you think we should go after her?" Naruto asked as he took a seat next to his friend. The twenty seven year old looked back at the blonde.

"Naw, she is probably just getting some fresh air. Women are too troublesome to follow." Shikamaru sighed. The two males turned their heads after they heard the door open and saw Sasuke walking down the stairs.

"Where's Sakura?" Sasuke asked as he looked around to see no pink at all.

"She left." Shikamaru stated.

"Shit," Sasuke mumbled as he ran out the door, hoping to catch up to her.

"Do you think they are dating?" Naruto asked his friend as they continued to stay at their location.

"how should I know? You really are troublesome I swear..." Shikamaru glanced over and saw Sasuke through the window.

"I was thinking maybe once dust has settled, I can ask Sakura out on a date!" Naruto grinned then was smacked in the head.

"What dust? Anyways there are more things to worry about right now then dating." Shikamaruto placed a hand on his head and sighed. He had a feeling it was going to be a long day and glanced back and noticed that Sasuke was gone.

Sakura felt like she had been walking for hours but it paid off when she finally saw a white house in the distance. Sakura couldn't be more than happy then she started sprinting until she reached to the front door. Sakura knocked on the door a few times and noticed it was odd that no one was answering since a car was in the driveway. She placed her hand on the doorknob and slowly opened up the door. Sakura quietly entered the home and couldn't find any signs of life.

"Anyone home? Sakura yelled out as she looked around the living room. She glanced at the pictures on the wall and noticed that there was a picture of a male that appeared to be of the age of seventeen. Sakura frowned as she inspected the picture and gently placed her hand on the frame.

'I wonder what is happening to this world? Maybe Sasuke is right and I am just a suicidal girl.' Sakura snapped out of her thoughts when a hand grasped her hand that was on the picture and her eyes widen to see Sasuke glaring at her.

"Sasuke? What are you doing here?" Sakura asked and the male let go of her wrist.

"Idiot, why did you leave? It's too dangerous for you to go out by yourself and look at you! You are breaking into people houses." Sasuke slammed the door behind him, Sakura noticing that she had forgotten to close the door.

"I-" Sakura was interuppted when she heard a growl coming from upstairs.

"Shit, stay behind me Sakura." Sasuke moved in front of the girl and proceeded to go upstairs with Sakura following him.

When they got upstairs, Sasuke started walking towards the master bedroom. Sakura looked behind her and noticed that she saw the zombie form of Sai's father slowly walking towards them.

"I'm sorry," Sakura whispered. Sasuke turned his head and was about to question her when he noticed she was no longer behind him and ran over to the zombie and gutted the zombie in the head with her knife. Sakura pulled the knife out of the skull and looked up at Sasuke.

"I may be suicidal but I'm not weak." Sakura told the male, unaware that another zombie was coming behind her.

"Sakura stay down!" Sasuke pulled out his gun and shot the female zombie in the head, making the body collapse. Sakura's eyes widen and looked behind her to see it was Sai's mother.

"Sakura, what's with you?" Sasuke walked over to her and helped her up. Sasuke looked down at her face and noticed tears coming from her eyes.

"Did you know these people?" Sasuke asked and Sakura nodded her head.

"They were the parents of my ex boyfriend." Sakura wiped the tears from her eyes and looked at Sasuke.

"Should we be on the lookout for another zombie then?" Sasuke got his gun ready but Sakura shook her head.

"My ex boyfriend...he passed away a long time ago so it was only the two of them living here. He-" Sakura was interuptted when they started to hear groans coming from outside.

"Shit." Sasuke whispered as they walked over to the nearest window and noticed more zombies coming up to the house. Sasuke looked down and noticed he only had few ammo left.

"What do we do?" Sakura looked up at Sasuke and could tell he was getting worried. Sasuke looked into Sakura's eyes.

"Whoo hoo!" *Bang* *Bang* *Bang* *Bang*

Sasuke and Sakura both looked back at the window and their eyes widen. It was Naruto and Shikamaru killing the zombies with the guns they had in their arms.

" Naruto! Shikmaru!" Sakura smiled.

"They are using my guns..."Sasuke grumbled then was nudged in the stomach by Sakura's elbow. They looked each other again and for a moment, they were both comterble.

"Sakura, you didn't freak out by the gunfire." Sasuke commented.

"I guess, I was really scared for a moment so I was so happy to see them, it didn't register." Sakura smiled but Sasuke could tell that it was a fake smile.

"Sakura, why does gunshots freak you out?" Sasuke looked down at Sakura and noticed that she wouldn't look at him.

"You see I-"

"Are you guys in here?" Naruto yelled.

"We are up here." Sakura ran over and waved at the two males, being thankful that she was able to avoid the question that Sasuke had asked her. Sakura's eyes widen when she heard a small growl and turned to notice that it was coming from Sasuke who had came up behind her.

"What are you guys doing here?" Sasuke asked as he followed Sakura down the stairs to greet the two males.

"We were getting worried since you guys didn't come back." Shikamaru explained.

"So we decided to go out looking for you guys and saw your tracks. So glad you live out in the country compared to the city!" Naruto yelled with excitement.

"Thank you so much guys! I don't know what we would had done if you didn't show up," Sakura said then looked over at Sasuke.

"I guess you guys aren't that useless." Sasuke smirked.

"I will accept that thank you. What now?" Naruto asked as they all walked outside of the house.

"We should get back to my house, I have supplies and we can think about what our next steps are." Sasuke explained to the group.

"I agree, let me go see if I can find the car keys for their car and we can use it to get back to Sasuke's. I'll be right back." Sakura ran back inside and ran up the stairs. Sakura walked over the Sai's father and inspected the pockets and smiled when she had found the car keys. Sakura stood up and looked over to see a door closed. Sakura was hesitant at first but then she walked over to the door and placed her hand on the door knob.

"Sakura!" Sakura heard Sasuke's voice so she removed her hand and walked down the stairs without looking back.
