Elemental
Chapter Three
AN: ayeee lmao
Disclaimer: I have not, nor will I ever, own Naruto or Inuyasha.
"We...pass?" Sakura asked hesitantly, wondering if this was a trick or not. Kakashi gave a single nod. "Yes, you do. All my other teams had taken my orders to heart, and left their teammates to starve." His eyes narrowed. "They valued getting their mission done over the health of their teammates, and that made them not worthy of being a shinobi."
He straightened up. "In school you were taught that when you have a mission you're supposed to get it done at all costs." all four nodded, remembering this lesson being taught to them. "Well, I'm going to tell you that that's wrong." Naruto's eyes widened a bit. "True, those that abandon a mission are scum," Kakashi paused. "But those that abandon their teammates are lower than scum."
It was silent for a minute, each of them brooding over Kakashi's words. Suddenly, Kakashi began to speak, his voice a lot lighter than it was a few moments ago. "It's about one right now, and we've finished today's exercise. You four are free to do whatever you wish for the rest of the day. I have to go report your success to the Hokage. Tomorrow we have practice at 6, and then we'll have your first mission." he smiled. "Do not be late." with that said, he vanished in a swirl of leaves.
A black widow scurried through the cracks of an old cave. The cave itself had been there for hundreds of years. After an earthquake had fallen in on itself, there was only one way in and one way out, at least for humans.
"Hyousuke, I see you've returned." a voiced stated from the darkness. The black widow stopped in the middle of the floor, and in a poof of smoke, suddenly a young boy who looked to be the age of 10 stood in his place. "Yes, Orochimaru-sama. I've brought information on the Uchiha, along with other information that might interest you."
Hyousuke was a pale skinned boy, with black hair and black eyes. He had a lanky type of figure that gave him the appearance of someone weak, but by all means, he wasn't. There was something special about him. And it wasn't that he was a ninja, though that was pretty cool to him too.
No, he was part spider yokai. Only a fourth though. His mother was a human, and he had never known his father, though when he was growing up his mother had told him stories, all about how he was a "great man who wanted to change the world". He wanted to do the same, and he had no idea how until Orochimaru had found him and took him under his wing.
Hyousuke turned his attention back to Orochimaru. "The Uchiha boy has been assigned to the Copy Cat Ninja's team. Along with him is the Kyuubi container, a girl named Sakura, and the heir to the Taisho clan, who, might I add, has managed to capture the Uchiha's attention." Hyousuke recited. In the darkness, Orochimaru smirked, a plan forming in mind.
"If this boy doesn't stop staring at me I swear..." Kagome whispered to herself. Kakashi cast an amused downward gaze to her before looking at the boy in question. Sasuke.
Her eyebrow twitched. Eyes bore into the back of her skull. She was going to kill him. Scratch that, she liked being a ninja. No, she'd just seriously injure him. Yeah, that would work.
Naruto was spouting off something in her ear, what it was she didn't quite know. All she wanted was to get their mission from the Hokage without doing something to make there be one less Uchiha in the world.
Training had been a major pain in the ass. Kakashi had tested them one on one to see what each of their weakness were so they could build them up. Naruto's had been ninjutsu. Sakura's had been taijutsu. Sasuke's had, surprisingly, been genjutsu. Kagome's was taijutsu, which she had already known.
They'd only had a few training sessions so far that were together. Kakashi spent the rest of his time training with them one on one to enhance their abilities without the others interfering. Kagome suspected he was particularly hard on her because of her status to the clan. Her first time training with him ended up with her having a concussion and a rib fracture. His exact words had been, "You're a Taisho, start acting like it. You either train hard enough to kill others or you get killed."
She was pulled out of her thoughts by Naruto, realizing she'd been lost in them the entire time. "Oh no old man, no more! I want a mission that's challenging and exciting; not this little kid crap!" she sighed, but she had to agree with him. She was getting sick of these easy D-ranked missions, though she understood why they were being given them.
Iruka's face screwed up and he slammed his hands on the desk. "How dare you? You're a new shinobi; a genin at that! You have little to no experience, and like everyone else you start with simple missions to develop your skills." Iruka went to continue, but Sarutobi held a hand up, and began his own lecture. He had barely gotten a few sentences out before being interrupted by Naruto.
"Stop! You always lecture me like you're my grandfather or something, but I'm not that little brat anymore! I'm a ninja now, and I want a ninja mission!" Sarutobi and Iruka sat back, smirking. "Alright then. If Naruto doesn't want us to see him as a little brat anymore, then so be it. Since you are so determined, I'm going to give you a C-ranked mission. You'll be bodyguards on a journey."
"Bring in Tazuna!"
They all turned around. The door began to slowly open, and the first thing they saw was a large hand engulfing a bottle of beer. The man in question was large himself, but suited him for his height. Under his pointed hat he had graying hair, with a beard to match, and wore glasses and a towel around his neck.
'Drunk.' she thought. That's exactly what her first impression was.
"Is this a joke?" Tazuna asked, taking a long gulp of his beer. "And you two, the blond with the idiotic look on his face, and the girl who looks like she couldn't even hurt a fly, you really expect me to believe you two are ninjas?"
Naruto shouted, but Kagome merely rolled her eyes. She was used to those comments. "I am Tazuna, a master bridge builder. I must return to my country. I'm building a bridge there that will change our world and I expect you to get me there safely, even if it means giving up your life."
"Bit cocky, isn't he?" Kagome whispered to Naruto. "I mean, why would we need to give up our lives for someone like him, a bridge builder?" Naruto nodded along, but clearly he didn't understand what she meant by her findings. Something was fishy about all of it.
An hour and a half later found the four genin and Tazuna at the gates. "Yeah! All right!" Naruto shouted the moment they walked out of the walls. "What are you shouting about?" Sakura asked in an annoyed tone. "This is the first time I've ever left the village. I'm a traveler now, believe it!"
"Hey, am I supposed to trust my life to this idiot?" Tazuna complained, pointing at him. Kagome, from her side next to him, shot a glare up at him. "Just shut up, damn." Tazuna looked at Kakashi, shocked, only to receive a shrug in return.
They began to walk. A couple of minutes later, over the banter of her teammates, Kagome heard rustling in the leaves. She looked over, seeing the end part of cloak before it disappeared from her sight. She turned away, her senses now on high alert.
Kagome had decided to zone out on Kakashi's lecture of the world, having already known about what he was teaching them. She instead opted to follow the chakra signal she had caught on to before, back at the gates. It was bouncing around them, jumping from tree to tree. There were two of them.
She'd lost it a few times, seeing as it was so faint, but it was there. Whoever was following them, if they were a ninja, would probably attack using weapons, seeing as they didn't have enough chakra to use advanced jutsu.
They all passed by a puddle, and both Kagome and Kakashi looked at it, coming to the same conclusion. Kagome tensed up, glad she had brought her tanto with her.
It all happened very quickly. Suddenly the two people who had been following them has their chains wrapped around Kakashi. Too in shock to take action, Tazuna and the four genin merely stared in disbelief when Kakashi was killed in front of them.
When the two attackers suddenly appeared in front of Naruto, that's when they came to their senses. "Sakura, snap out of it and guard Tazuna!" Kagome ordered. The shaken girl put on a determined face and went to stand in front of the man.
Kagome and Sasuke nodded to each other, both setting their eyes on their own target. Their targets didn't see them coming, too focused on Naruto, so when they found their chains trapped to a tree, they were surprised to see Kagome and Sasuke on the ground, staring next to them. They looked at each other before both jumping onto the attackers faces, forcing them to let go of their chain.
However, the two attackers made a breakaway from them, one going after Sakura and Tazuna, the other going after Naruto. "Go to Sakura." Kagome ordered. Sasuke nodded, though he glared at he. Kagome turned to her own attacker.
The attacker managed to give Naruto a deep cut on his arm before Kagome managed to get to him. She jumped up into the air, adding chakra to her foot before she slammed down on the attackers head, knocking him out cold.
She looked over to Naruto, only to see him looking somewhere else. She turned, smirking when she saw Kakashi standing there, holding the attackers Sasuke was supposed to get. "I knew it wasn't that easy to kill you, sensei."
Kakashi smiled, picking up the other attacker before tying them both to a tree. "Naruto, sorry I didn't help you right away. I didn't mean for you to get hurt. I just didn't think you'd freeze up like that." Naruto pouted.
"Great job Sasuke, very smooth. You too Sakura. And Kagome, great leadership skills." all three beamed at the praise. 'I was useless!' Naruto thought. 'And Sasuke was so cool...and so was Kagome...it was like they'd done this a thousand times…weren't they scared at all?'
"Hey," Sasuke said, catching Naruto's attention. "You're not hurt are you, Scaredy-Cat?" Naruto went to pounce at him before Kakashi interrupted. "Naruto! Stay still. These ninja have poison embedded in their claws. We need to take it out of you, quickly." Naruto began to freak out. "By the way Mr. Tazuna, we need to talk." Kakashi glared.
"They're chunin from the village hidden in the Mist. Their specialty is to use relentless attack. They keep fighting no matter what the sacrifice." the two chunin glared. "How did you know about our ambush?" they asked.
Kakashi gave them a blank stare. "A puddle, on a clear day, when it hasn't rained in weeks? Very suspicious." he tossed a look at Kagome. "Even she noticed it, and she's just a genin. Though, I'd appreciate if next time you notice something suspicious you notify us, even if it's nothing." Kagome grinned, nodding.
Tazuna turned to him, annoyed. "In that case, why'd you leave it to the genin to fight?" Kakashi sighed. "I could have taken them out quickly, but then I'd have learned nothing." he narrowed his eyes at the bridge builder. "I had to know who their target was, and what they were after."
Tazuna raised his head indignantly. "Hm, what are you getting at?" annoyed, Kagome butted in. "For crying out loud man, he was looking for proof that this is more than a C-rank mission. These two were following you from the start of the mission, ever since we left the gates of Konoha." she huffed.
Kakashi raised an eyebrow. "Exactly as she said, though I didn't know about them following us at that point." the other three genin were just watching them, seeing as they had no idea what was happening. "How did you know they were?" Sasuke butted in. Kagome turned to him. "Because of my clan's origins, we're very skilled at finding the disguised either by scent, aura, or their chakra signal." she pointed a thumb behind her to the two chunin tied to the tree. "I tracked their chakra signal, which, though it wasn't much, was enough for me to know they've been following us this whole time."
"Um, yes," Kakashi interrupted. "Well, either way, Tazuna, I'm sure you have your reasons, but lying about this has put all of my students in danger." Sakura nodded. "We're genin, this mission is too advanced for us. We should go back."
Kagome popped her fingers, grinning. "I don't know, I like this mission so far. I say we continue." Sasuke smirked, it was small, but noticeable. "I agree." Frowning, Sakura began to talk again. "Okay, but what about Naruto's wound? He's needs to get that poison out and-" she was interrupted by Naruto's cry of pain.
They all turned to see he had stabbed his wound with a kunai, opening it. "I worked so hard to get here, pushing myself until it hurt. I'm not going to let some stupid wound or some stupid poison get in the way of this mission. I'm in for continuing this, believe it!"
Kagome laughed and Kakashi smiled. "Well, then it's settled. We continue." Naruto cheered. "But here's the thing. The good news is that you got the poison out, the bad news is that if you don't get that wound closed soon, you're going to bleed to death."
Naruto began to freak out, screaming. Kagome walked forward. "Here Naruto, I can heal you." She placed her hands over his arm, focusing in. Her hands began to glow pink. Naruto's wound slowly began to mend itself together.
When she went to let go, she suddenly got a vision. It didn't last long, but all she saw was a large fox, red as fire, with nine tails and a curious expression. It said the word "Miko." before he vanished. She let go, dazed. "Wow, thanks Kagome!" Naruto grinned. She merely nodded.
From the side, Kakashi watched. 'She blacked out for a moment. Wonder what that was...'
