Chapter 4: The Prospect of Liberation
"So this is the life of a Pokémon talent agent, huh?" Black asked White as they were outside pitching a tent in the area of Accumula Town while on their way to their next clientele. "Not as flashy as I thought."
"It's not always about the glitz and glamour, Black." White said. "It's about making sure the Pokémon enjoy themselves."
"Which is why the Pokémon get their own hotel rooms?" Black retorted, as Tep, Brav, Munna, Pikachu, Ashichu, Mistichu, and Gigi were lounging in a hotel room above them.
"Gigi's an actress after all, Black. She doesn't get much time to relax outside of her Pokeball when she's not working." White says to the young Trainer.
"So could you remind me why I got hired to work with you?" Black asked. "This whole camping out is wasting my time."
"Wasting time?" White snapped. "Need I remind you, that because of your battle with that Garvantula, I'll need to earn your Tepig's salary 49 more times over from our last gig to pay off the equipment you ruined!"
"Augh!" Black squeaked out meekly in realization. "Now I get it! You hired me just to humiliate me about that and enslave me..."
"No. You may be careless about the needs of others besides your Pokémon, but I still want to thank you for helping solve the case and lending me your Tepig." White responded as her stern expression softened to gratefulness.
"Don't mention it," Black said with a smile, before the two saw a stage being set up in the distance.
"I wonder what that's all about..." Black thought. After calling their Pokémon back over, they approached the stage where a group of people were watching a squad of robed figures surround a middle-aged man with spiky green hair and an overflowing purple robe.
"Greetings, ladies and gentlemen. My name is Ghetsis, and I represent the group known as Team Plasma. Today, I wish to talk to you about the liberation of Pokémon."
"What?" some people in the crowd murmured in confusion.
"Now, I am certain many of you believe that we humans and our Pokémon work as a team because we want and need each other's company and support. But, has it ever dawned on you that we only assume that's the truth? Pokémon are beings of great potential that we can learn from, and yet we squander that potential by enslaving them to fight against each other for sport and pleasure."
"That can't be true!" a woman shouted from the crowd in disbelief.
"Believe what you will, but can anybody in good conscience say otherwise whether this is true?" Ghetsis explained. "Now tell me, what do you feel is our responsibility that we owe these creatures?"
"Liberation." a young male voice called out in confidence.
With a grin, Ghetsis continued. "Precisely. We must free Pokémon from the grasp of humanity. Then, and only then, will both sides truly be equal. I end this speech by asking you this: decide what you feel is right for your Pokémon, and keep my words of wisdom in mind. I thank you for your cooperation." After saying this, Ghetsis and the Team Plasma soldiers marched away without another word, leaving the crowd of people to discuss among themselves.
"Wotta load of rubbish!" some of the people declared as they set out back to their homes. "Our Pokémon have never gotten along better with us than when we're together." However, White noticed a man on his knees weeping.
"What's wrong?" White asked in concern.
"All these years, I thought I knew what was best for my Pokémon. How wrong I must be, making them fight without thinking if they wanted to!" the man declared.
At the same time, one trainer released a Ferroseed from its Pokeball. Then an Audino was sent back into the wild by its trainer. Black's Pikachu cocked its head in surprise as it gave a saddened chirrup.
"I can't believe it either, Pikachu. They're actually believing that guy! They're releasing their Pokémon!" Black cried out.
Another chapter down the pipeline. Remember to review, and the next update will be coming as soon as I am able to find time to do so.
