Iron Fire

Chapter Four: The First Step, Full On Run!

Song of the Chapter: Carry On Wayward Son by Kansas.

I worked on the armor for a long time after the maiden voyage, with a long night and tons of caffeine I got it to Iron Fire 2.1. Two point one had higher heat resistance and faster recharge time.

I then bolted up from my bed, "Wait! How much time do I have?!" I gasped.

'Two hours, let's go!' I snapped at myself, throwing my clothes on and dashing out of the door.

"Hold it!" Fuyumi snarled as I skidded to a stop.

"Do your best! Don't worry about others! You have your armor, so you'll be okay!" Fuyumi encouraged happily.

"Yeah! See you later!" I cheered, activating my armor.

It was a truly beautiful day, and now my armor had a touched-up paint job when it was active, it was silver, white, and azure. I liked that color scheme, it looked slick.

"Okay! I'm more than ready!" I said, landing in front of the school, which was a giant H-shaped building. I removed my armor.

I walked in with my backpack on my back and a song in my mind. I just got into the auditorium when I saw someone slightly familiar. It was another guy, he had short white hair, with one part crimson. He also had different colored eyes, one azure, and one gray. It was my twin brother Shoto. My more powerful, twin brother Shoto.

"Sido?" he asked, walking towards me with purpose.

"Shoto, nice to see you," I said bluntly.

"Why are you here?" he wondered.

"I'm here for the same reason you are, to become a hero," I growled, staring my twin down.

We stared each other down. Shoto walked away as I heard Momo's soft footsteps, full of skill and poise. If she was a ninja, she would be absolutely perfect for the role.

"Hey, Sido! How are you?" She called to me as I flinched, my slightly slouching posture correcting itself as I saw her. She was wearing a crimson tracksuit and was smiling… at me. Her hair was down in a glossy black and gold cascade. Momo looked stunning regardless of what she wore.

"G' morning! I-I'm f-fine!" I squeaked, rubbing the back of my neck and avoiding eye contact. I took off my glasses and cleaned the lenses frantically.

I felt nervous honestly. First things first, I was nervous as hell, Second things second, Shoto was gone, probably writing me off as useless. Third things third, my heart was going at a mile a minute just trying to keep me grounded! After what I did a few weeks back I was really scared and nervous around her.

Momo put her delicate hand on my shoulder, "Sido… you're not okay, your brother must've said something, right? It's gonna be okay!" she encouraged, handing me something from out of nowhere.

"Huh?" I mumbled as I looked down at a small stone, it glew with the colors of the rainbow, and it was pretty.

"Just rub that when you're scared, it'll help you break those habits," she sighed, her small bang wiggled as she nodded gently.

"My hair has been unruly lately… I don't have much time to tie it back," she said as I steeled my nerves.

"Hair tie, now!" I ordered as Momo handed me a hair tie. I pulled her hair gently into her usual ponytail, I liked helping others with their usual styles. I had spiked up my own hair and combed it into a spiky mohawk style to keep it out of my eyes.

Momo gasped as I finished. Looking into a mirror that she produced out of nowhere.

"Sido… this is amazing!" she squealed, whirling around and hugging me tightly as I blushed a deep crimson.

"Hehe… it's the- the- least I… I can do for my first friend!" I squeaked, my eyes darting to the floor.

Momo smiled as she walked away, "See you in the heat of battle, Sido!" she cried cheerily, her soft footsteps faded away as I didn't want her to go. I felt safe around her, and well… it felt right whenever I was with her.

"She… she likes me…" I mumbled, smiling as I went down to the exam grounds.

My helmet's mask slid into place and it acted fast, scanning a map of the exam area as I started to run.

The gate opened as I took to the air, I knew that the exam area was more or less the same as the standard one. I smirked as I blasted a one pointer. I landed as a group of three-pointers were speared on shafts of ice. I weaved through the forest of ice spikes, finding my brother slinging up those shafts of ice.

Wind buffeted me as I pushed my thrusters to their very limit. I ended up going into a nosedive, my armor took a huge impact. I got back up, seeing my brother and another guy fighting the bots.

I looked at the leaderboard, seeing me neck and neck with Shoto, I took to the air again.

"Full power to the repulsors! I'm gonna do a Death Run!" I yelled, as my fists were wrapped in the energy. I bashed some two-pointers apart and nudged myself to the top spot in doing so.

I felt my helmet's mask slide away as I gasped for air, I was so tired. Using my armor takes a lot out of me, even if it was for longer than an hour. I have to work on cutting the weight a bit.

After the exam, Shoto stopped me.

"Sido, you built that?" he ventured.

"Yeah, instead of putting my time into trying to impress the dumbass lummox that is our father, I devoted my time into building this! I'm gonna visit Mom, so you can just leave me alone…" I huffed through my nose, jokingly using my snooty tone with him.

He visibly looked like he was going to strangle me.

"You're going to crash one day and I'm gonna laugh!" he snapped.

"Oh yeah? We're doing this now?" I taunted.

Shoto and I glared at each other.

"I have a friend who is a girl! What friends do you have?" I asked.

"At least I don't depend on a heavy suit of armor!" he shot back.

If this was a fighting game, the KO graphic would pop up. I turned away and started to walk, my armor retracting away from my body and flying off.

"Mom would love it if she were to see you, ya know…" I sighed, grinning sadly.

I walked out of the campus, my suit was sent back to my shed so I took the railway to the one place with the only person who wanted to see me outside of Momo and Fuyumi. That person was my mother, she was staying in a hospital a little way out of town.

I walked up to the hospital doors.

In the lobby, a male nurse with needle fingers came up to me, "Hey there, Sido!" he greeted.

"Toro! Howzit going? Is my mom alright?" I inquired.

"She's excited to see you, so she's a little more active than usual, which is good," Toro sighed as he led me to her room.

"Mrs. Todoroki? Your son is here, Sido, go on in," Toro instructed as I walked in.

Mom looked a lot more like she was a real person, she smiled as I sat down on one of the chairs next to the bed.

"Hey, Mom! How are you?" I asked.

"I'm well, thank you for coming, Sido!" she said, smiling at me as I looked a little closer at her.

"You washed your hair, it's prettier…" I commented.

Her smile was subtle, I found it to be one of my favorite things to see.

"Thank you, Sido. What's this about a mysterious new hero?" she wondered, her white hair billowing a little bit like a slight chill bit the air.

"Who told you?" I asked, a little defensive.

"Fuyumi did, she wanted me to know that you're becoming a hero despite being quirkless… you're this Iron Fire, right?" Mom guessed as a new voice piped up.

"Hey! Hey! Can you hear me?" it yelled as Mom looked around in surprise.

"Who said that?" she asked.

"I'm in your son's phone!" The voice yelled.

Mom looked at the screen and saw a man with brown hair and eyes standing there and grinning. My brain immediately shut down in total shock.

"Oh my god… y-you're, you're…" I mumbled, pointing down at my phone in shock as I had pulled it out.

"Oh! You're Tony Stark!" she gasped, her grey eyes shining as Tony sighed.

"Okay! That's good that someone doesn't need an introduction! I wanna say that your son is an amazing successor the practical exam in the top spot without my help. He's ingenuitive and adapts to various situations accordingly. If he was around back when the Avengers Initiative was active… he'd be a good candidate. If there's one thing I got to critique is that your son has major confidence issues and beats himself up if he fails… which is something everyone goes through," Tony said, smiling the whole time.

"He has the heart of a hero and the mind of one, he's worthy enough for a small gift from me to him, but it's for later on down the line. You should be proud of him, Mrs. Todoroki," Tony encouraged, appearing next to me.

Mom grinned, tears spilling from her eyes, "I… I'm glad you're happy, Sido… Mr. Stark, please watch over and protect him for me, I know I couldn't…" she sighed, wiping her tears away as I hugged her, breaking down myself.

"I… I wanna be your hero, Mom! I wanna see you smile again! A real one, not a fake! If that means becoming Iron Fire and taking Him down a few pegs, then it's worth it!" I forced out, my eyes closed as I vowed some sort of vengeance.

"Please, don't hold back every day, okay?" Mom asked.

"Sure. Also, I have a friend," I commented, drying my tears.

"Hm? Who is this friend?" Mom asked wryly, raising an eyebrow.

"Her name is Momo Yaoyarozu, she… she's nice. She's pretty, confident, and she likes me! A useless guy like me, and a girl like her… It's a little weird… how we 'got together', anyway," I sighed.

"She sounds like a nice girl, bring her by sometime, okay?" Mom asked.

"Sure, I'll see you later!" I said, leaving as Tony appeared in my glasses.

"So, is this Momo girl your girlfriend?" He taunted in a sing-song voice.

"No! No, she's not! She's… How long were you watching me?!" I diverted as Tony raised an eyebrow.

"Long enough to know that you were abused by a total dipshit," Tony scoffed.

"Also the fact that you're pretty much the only guy I found other than the asshats that want my suits for their own gain, and you're a TEENAGER, is impressive, and the fact that you made your own armor, and got it energized by Thor's magic hammer is impressive too. You still have a shit ton to learn..." Tony sighed as I pushed open the door to my shed.

"Look at all of this, kid! You did all of this, you rebuilt my suit… but you did it as you would do. I know it's nerve-wracking that your hero since you were five is here with you, but I gotta say you did a passable job at your first suit. Your second attempt was awesome, but I'm not sure how reliable Mjolnir power is, but… it's a good start." Tony complimented.

"Thank you, Mr. Stark!" I exclaimed as he then went into my computer.

"Okay kid, are you ready to become the heir to my suits? Are you ready to impress the girl you love with your debonair attitude and dashing good looks? Then let's get started by shaking hands!" he declared.

"Okay, but how are you gonna shake my-"

*Shwee!*

"SWEET MOTHER OF ALL-MIGHT!" I screamed as I saw my suit stand up and hold out its right hand.

"Relax, kid. It's just me interfacing with the suit. Also, didja just swear on Rogers's descendant's mom?" Tony asked.

"Never mind that! I'm one-hundred percent in!" I exclaimed.

The suit and I shook hands.

"Now…" Tony said, removing his glasses and grinning wryly, "Let's get to work!"
