Year Two: Flashback

The second year had started off the same as any other...a few days into it however...
"Playing host to the Tri-Wizard tournament!" Blaise was quite nearly bouncing in place as he stood by Kagome's side, waiting for the petite and child sized girl to pick a book from the millions within the library that they stood. Every so often, the three would wander further down an aisle, or into another aisle. Kagome climbed up onto a slide ladder, and she stared to pull herself along the shelf when Draco grabbed the ladder and pulled it for her, slowly so that she could read the titles.
"Honestly Blaise, as exciting as it is, you are taking the excitement to a new level of extremities, don't you think?"
"No! Not at all...I'd say the more excitement the better. What say you, my darling pet?"
Kagome blushed, but gave him no reply. Draco had told her not to encourage his nicknames, and instead to ignore him unless he used her actual name.
"Little Badger?" Blaise nudged her, but received no reply once more. "Hey, Kagome?"
She smiled, "yes?"
Blaise stared at her for a moment before turning to his platinum blonde friend, "...ah...I get it..." he glared at Draco, "don't take from me my simple pleasures in life. I happen to love the little nicknames for her! Oi, listen to me!" Blaise sighed as Draco leaned back on the shelf with a smirk and his arms crossed in a cocky attitude that only he could achieve. "Are you really ignoring me?"
"I merely choose not to respond to your childishness."
Blaise smirked, "you could learn a thing or two from me, Draco."
"A thing or two indeed, but how much is that in comparison to the hundreds of things you could learn from me?"
"..." Blaise fumed, looking around for a few moments before he sighed, "anyways, the only problem I'll have is that now with the tri-wizard tournament being hosted here at Hogwarts, we will be having classes in the Great Hall, and it'll be a nightmare having to have class with all the houses..."
"Oh? I don't see any problems with it, just focus on your own studies, and they shouldn't be able to bother you." Kagome said gently, as if talking to a victim of bullying. He grabbed a book from the shelf and carefully made her way off the ladder. "You control your day, Blaise...don't let someone else ruin it."
Draco looked at Blaise, that stupid look was on his face again...twice since they had been at school this year, had he seen that look. It was simply... Draco shook his head and closed his eyes, not able to stomach the mush in his best friends' eyes.
Three departed from the library after she checked the book out with the librarian who had grown to be quite fond of Kagome over the timespan of the smaller students first year.

(A Couple Weeks Later)

Finding a hand pulling hers out to the field where the first of the tasks would be, Kagome found herself blushing fiercely at the look in Blaise's eyes. "What is it?" Kagome brought the scarf around her neck up, trying to cover her flushed cheeks. It was hard enough to be next to the Italian Casanova of the Slytherin Fourth Years...but when he looked at her so closely...she couldn't control her heart, she couldn't get it to calm down.
"Nothing...I just...you look cute when your cheeks get flushed from running...and the cold of course..." Blaise looked away, a little unsure of what he should say after that comment.
Kagome smiled and laughed at his awkwardness. Moving ahead, she paused when she saw a familiar face ahead of her and Blaise. "That's Draco, and is that...his father?"
Blaise nodded, "I'll introduce you," Blaise brought her over and Draco smiled at him, "Mr. Malfoy, our little Badger was curious and so I came to introduce her to your father, do you mind?"
Rolling his eyes, Draco sighed, "have at it, Mr. Zabini..." he said with sarcasm dripping from his words.
Draco's father raised his brow, but chose to remain in silence while he watched the next part of this 'show' take place.
"Venerable Mr. Malfoy, I do so hope your afternoon has been pleasing to you, if I can humor you for a few moments, let me introduce this flower to you." Blaise said smoothly, a well-rehearsed conversationalist, he could easily talk a man from his grave. "Her name is Kagome, sir. Kagome Higurashi..."
Draco who was watching his father, noted in great curiosity, the widening of his father's eyes. Though what it was that had captured his father's attention, he couldn't think to know.
"Kagome, my pet. This is Lucius Malfoy, the head of the Malfoy family, and Draco's father. The lovely woman who would normally be accompanying him would be Narcissa Malfoy, the stunning beauty is hard to miss, so I'm sure you will see her later on?" He said the last part like a question as he looked pointedly towards Lucius.
"Of course, she wouldn't miss this for the world. So much excitement, we are both greatly looking forward to who will continue on to the next task first, last...or not at all..."
"..." Kagome felt chills at the thought of one of her fellow classmates not surviving, but shook off her nerves. "I shall hope to meet the Lady Malfoy too then, until later, Sir."
