Lingering Shadows
Chapter 4: The Head Butler
A/N: Chapter 4 is here, I hope you all enjoy it!
(JamJam9) I'm glad that you're enjoying it, thank you for your suggestion, I decided to take it and will be using italics to indicated when characters are speaking. I hope to hear from you again!
Disclaimer: Nintendo has finally responded to my actions, but, it's not the response I was hoping for. They've banned me from entering the building and put a sign outside with an X across my face. They're probably just busy right now, I'll give them some space, and try again later.
Wait, isn't he supposed to be a she? Link thought to himself as he looked at Sirgil.
Do I have something on my face? Surely that must be it as you have no other reason to gawk at me like that, scum. Sirgil said annoyed.
N-No, o-of course n-not! It's just t-that ummm... I was t-told you were a m-maid, and I assumed it w-was a woman. he said nervously.
Sirgil rolled his eyes with annoyance and gestured for Link to follow him. Sirgil exited the room and walked down the halls.
Sometimes information about my gender is given out incorrectly on purpose, as a joke. It was entertaining at first, but now it's getting annoying. Sirgil said as he walked down the halls.
So, you will be tending to the various chores of the castle. It ranges anywhere from janitorial duties, serving food, cleaning and dusting rooms, and things like that. You do know how to complete these tasks right? He stopped and turned around to look at Link for confirmation.
Y-Yes, of course! I mostly s-specialize in manual labor, but I can do other tasks, as well. Link replied.
That is good, at least you're not completely useless. He said as he entered the dining room.
The dining room was very big, it had a long table, made of grey, hard, wood. It was covered with an orange fabric that served as a cover. The chairs were made of similar material, and could seat around 30 people. Link could only dream of eating the kind of food that was served at that table. He shook his head as he turned his head towards Sirgil.
You will be expected to clean off the dishes and serve the food, should the need arise. Sirgil said as he moved on to the next room.
Y-Yes sir! Link replied.
Sirgil continued on and walked into the next room, it was a ballroom, and there were a couple Twili there practicing their dancing. They were wearing fancy grey and black dresses, that looked more comfortable and softer then anything Link had ever worn. The Twili were laughing as they made little mistakes, stepping on each others toes, frivolous things like that.
This is the ballroom, when events are held, you are to avoid this room unless told otherwise. We do not need you ruining the atmosphere of the event with your presence. Sirgil said as he continued on to the next room.
Yes sir. Link replied.
Sirgl and Link entered a large open room, it lead to the hallway, and straight through to the exit. It had red carpets leading guests to and from, and a large crystal chandelier hung from the ceiling.
He could have just walked down the hall instead of branching off. Link thought to himself
This is the throne room, it is where our majesty rules over the land. You are to avoid contact with her at all times, when she walks by, you are to lower your gaze, and only speak if spoken to. Failure to cooperate with this rule, will result in punishment. Sirgil said, putting emphasis on the "punishment".
Hurry along, the queen is supposed to be here any minute now. Sirgil said speeding up his pace.
Links gaze turned towards the throne, it stood on the top of some stairs, and was made of a mixture of orange crystal, black leather, and a stone formation of sorts with various foreign symbols on it. Link could watch the crystal on it shimmer for hours, but his gaze turned towards the sounds of rushed footsteps as he saw a group of Twili enter the room.
Hey! Get over here you idiot! What are you doing?! Sirgil barked.
Link watched the group enter. The group consisted of four guards in clad black armor, a Twili that was announcing what he assumed was plans for the day. His eyes widened when he saw who was in the middle. It was a tall woman, wearing a black hood of sorts over her head, her orange crimson hair was visible as it stuck slightly out. She wore an ornament of sorts on her forehead, that was connected to other ornaments sticking on top of her head, Link assumed it was the crown, and that must make her the Queen. She wore a black silky robe that covered the sides of her body, and her chest, leaving her belly and parts of her lower legs exposed. Her hair extended on two sides and met each other at the bottom of her neck, connected by a metal ring of sorts.
Wow... She sure is beautiful. Link didn't like to admit it, but some Twili were very attractive, especially this one. He had never seen any other Twili like her before.
The Queen sat down on her throne, and as she did, Link felt a smack on the back of his head.
You idiot! Why are you just standing there gawking?! I told you to follow me, now! Sirgil said visibly trying to restrain himself.
I-I'm sorry s-sir! Link replied half scared for his life.
Sirgil walked off and turned around to make sure Link was following him. Link turned his head to get one last glimpse at the Queen before he left the throne room, and to his surprise, her eyes met his. Her left eyebrow raising slightly before leaving the room and leaving her sight.
If you make a mistake like that again, going back to the labor camp will be the least of your concerns. Sirgil said with visible anger and annoyance in his voice.
Y-Yes s-sir! Link replied, slightly shaking with fear.
Now, follow me, we have one last room to visit. Sirgil said, his mood suddenly changing from mad to content.
Link followed behind as Sirgil walked into a nearby room and as Link followed behind, he noticed it was a barracks type room. Weapons of various types lay hanging on racks and display cases throughout the room. Guards were chattering among themselves, some turned their gaze towards Link and gave him a death stare, and if looks could kill, he'd be a dead man. Sirgil descended down a staircase with Link following closely behind him. As they reached the bottom of the stairs, Link was met with various screams. He looked around the room and his eye widened with terror
It's a torture room. Link thought to himself, his heart rate begin to increase dramatically and sweat started to form around his face.
Judging by the look on your face, you already know what this is. Sirgil said as he turned his gaze at Link.
Link nodded his head. He looked around the room and saw multiple jail cells, too many to count, they stretched down a hallway that Link would think went on forever. His ears rang with screaming as he turned his head to see the source of these tortured cries for help. He saw a man that looked to be around his mid 20's on a table, with his arms tied to the top and his feet tied to the end. He was receiving branding irons that burned different parts of his body. His screams echoing through the room with each burn that was placed on his body. Link turned his gaze away, not wanting to see the pain being inflicted.
I bet you're wondering why you're here. Normally we do not like to rough up servants until they make a big mistake, but I do not want you repeating the mistakes of our last servant, so we will start you off today. He said in monotone.
W-W-What?! Link replied, now visibly trembling. Sweat now started to cover his face, and his heart felt like it would beat out of his chest.
You know what to do, don't rough him up too much, he's new. Sirgil said as he turned his gaze to what Link knew to be the torturer.
His face was covered with a black mask that had two slots to see out of. He wore a grey robe that had visible blood splotches on it, Link knew it was not his blood. He looked at the man before him with pure terror in his eyes, he wanted to cry, but restrained it.
Don't worry, I'll take good care of him, we're just going to have some fun. The torturer looked down on Link and Link could swear he had a sadistic smile, if not for the mask, he would be able to confirm his theory.
P-Please, n-n-no. I-I'll do better, I-I promise! Link replied desperately, but it was pointless.
I was a fool to think I could escape the harshness and cruelty of the Twili with a new job. I wish I had just stayed where I was
Midna has finally arrived! Well, sort of, you'll get your favorite Twili soon, so stop crying. Next chapter will come out sometime this week, so stay tuned!
