Chapter 4: A Secret that no one should know.
7 months later- Kyoto
Mai looked at Gene at the other side of the table. "This is nice. Thank you Gene" Mai smiled as she was about to pick up the chopsticks.
Mai is currently a physics teacher while Gene is a chemistry teacher in a local high school in Kyoto. They have been living together since the day Mai decided to leave Tokyo and SPR. Mai never thought of Gene as Naru's twin. No, it would be too painful for her. But he thought of Gene as the father of the baby she is currently carrying.
"You should eat up, you're eating for two remember?" Gene smiled as he looked at Mai. Mai rubbed her tummy and looked down.
Yes, Taniyama Mai is pregnant at the age of 20 years old. The father? It's either the man who is sitting across the table or the man in Shibuya. She could never forgive Naru for what he did to her.
"Gene, I'm planning on traveling to Korea. I was informed by my former teacher that they're hiring there" She said as she finished her ramen. "Mai, right now? Isn't it too soon? I mean we haven't even saved for our baby's birth. Mai thought about it then nodded. "Let's save up first then!" Mai smiled at him.
Gene and Mai then returned to their small apartment. Mai went to the bathroom for her bath. Meanwhile, Gene received an unknown text message in Mai's phone from a blocked number.
'I want to talk to you. I know you're carrying my child'
Gene looked confused and stunned. "Mai cheated on me?"
"Mai would never do that. Not unless she was…" Gene dialled the number and called the number on his phone.
"Hello?" said the man on the other side. No, this is impossible. It can't be.
"Gene?"
Mai walked to Gene who was looking at his phone.
"Gene are you okay?" Mai asked. Gene snapped out of it and looked at her. "Yes. I'm fine, let's go to sleep after I take a shower" Mai smiled and looked at him as he entered the bathroom.
She closed her eyes for a while and soon she came to realize that she was sleeping on the couch and Gene didn't even wake her up. She opened her eyes and slowly walked to the bathroom.
"Gene?"
"Gene!" Mai ran to him. An unconscious Eugene Davis was found in his bathroom.
3 months ago. Kyoto
Mai looked at Gene who was sleeping on the hospital bed.
"Doctor. What is it? What is wrong with him" Mai said as she rubbed her huge tummy.
"Taniyama-san, I know this is not the right time to tell you this." The doctor paused and walked to his office and she followed. Mai looked worried and entered the office.
The doctor took off his eyeglasses and looked at Mai with pity.
"We found two tumours in his right eye" Mai started to tear up. "He has stage 4 cancer if we don't find him a donor within 1 year. He will die." Mai looked devasted. She looked down as hugged her tummy. "It's okay, Daddy will be okay." Mai tried to calm down and look at the positive side. But she couldn't see any positive side at all.
Mai slowly went back to Gene's hospital room. "I should probably call your parents now Gene" She looked at Gene who was lying on the bed. "I can't take this. Gene!" Mai rushed outside the room and cried her eyes out.
