They spent hours talking, talking about everything that isn't important. Elena didn't know how much she actually missed him but right now she doesn't know how she survived all this time without him, he just appeared and she feels whole again.
"I missed you." She whispers, gently touching his face as he leaned into her touch, closing his ocean eyes.
"I missed you too, Elena. More than you ever know." Damon smiled.
"I know you wanted to keep the conversation light but we have to talk about a lot of stuff, I rather we do it now then later." Elena said, the atmosphere changed around them quickly and even without them noticing their bodies stiffened uncomfortably.
"I want to talk to you, I just don't know if you're ready to hear it."
"I just want you to explain it to me, what happened to you? You weren't even supposed to be in the war zone." Elena's voice trembled, "They told us that you will be safe."
"It was my choice." Damon answered, looking down, "I remember bombing, a building was bombed and I knew there were kids in there and I didn't think. I ran, I ran towards it and tried to get in there without getting noticed by other soldiers. I got in." He paused, "I didn't think about how I will get out, I had this small girl in my hands and she was shaking, all I was thinking that I need to get her out because the other half of that building won't stay up for a long and I only remember running out with her in my hands."
"Do you know what happened after that?" Elena asked, she placed her hand on his.
"Building fell down on me, I got shot. A lot of happened, I don't remember anything." Damon shrugged his shoulders.
"It's okay; you don't have to tell me about it if you don't want to."
"I want to, I don't know what happened. I might never do but I can just guess by the fact I can't walk." Damon says and to a stranger he would sound like he doesn't care about the fact he might never feel his legs again.
"Will you ever walk again?" Elena lets a breath out.
"With a lot of therapy, massages and other shit, I should be standing on my own two feet." Damon says.
"So we can do that, we will get you back on your feet." Elena's eyes light up.
"Elena." Damon tries to stop her from making up plans in her head, he looks straight into her eyes and he knows she's in her own world, "They don't know how long it will take."
"It doesn't matter, Damon."
"It does matter; I won't take your life because I'm an idiot that sacrificed his legs for some girl that ended up dying anyway. I sacrificed my own child for her and she isn't even alive because I'm a failure." Damon says, he tried to turn around. "You built a new life without me and that life is... It's a lot better than I can ever give you. That I ever gave you."
Another shortie, I know that I've been slacking but I honestly have no time. I write a little but I have written this chapter in the last hour but I felt like I needed to update. I'm also rewriting the last three chapter as I need to upgrade my grammar and correct the mistakes! Thank you for reading and be ready to read my other updates because I'm coming back!
