Chapter 4
As always Inuyasha was the first to wake from his quiet yet menacing slumber that could always be awoken by the slightest movement around him. He squints his big yellow puppy dog eyes and stretches, looking around at his friends.
There was Kagome, sleeping quietly in her sleeping bag, with Shippo cuddled right in next to her in a cute little red ball and Inuyasha huffed, shaking his head. His eyes then wandered to Miroku and Sango who were sleeping quite close together, he wondered what might be going on between those two but he didn't think anything of it as a result of Inuyasha's poor interest in romantic gestures and relationships. Inuyasha then saw Kilala on the other side of Sango and that was it. Wait. What? Where was Kailanna? Inuyasha stood up quickly but quietly, having one of those mini heart attacks where your heart skips a beat and then continues to beat really fast.
Inuyasha looked at the ground where she was sitting across from him; it was still matted down from her body being there not too long ago. He lifted his nose to the wind, closed his eyes and took in a great big sniff, catching her sweet familiar scent immediately and he followed it to see if he could catch her. Inuyasha walked through trees and bushes growling at ones that got away and hit his body in any way. He stopped when a cliff came into sight, where her scent was the strongest, and he opened his eyes and squinted, the sunrise was right in front of him, and he saw just a woman's silhouette standing at the very edge of the cliff outlined in sunlight, he already knew it was Kailanna so he began to approach her.
Inuyasha examined her as he approached quietly; her long silky, silver hair went all the way down her back and ended just at the back of her calves in a neat 'V'. Kailanna turned towards him as he approached, her hair swayed to fall on her opposite shoulder with her arms crossed.
"Hey Inuyasha" she said softly and turned back towards the sun and the edge of the cliff. He just simply nodded his hello since he was so distracted by how her body looked outlined in the sun and joined her standing on the edge of the cliff. "I don't deserve a 'hi' from you, Inuyasha?" she looked at him, a hint of sternness on her voice. Inuyasha huffed, "What I have to talk to you all of the time?" She smiled a bit and looked back out at the view from the cliff, "You haven't changed a bit." "So, why does that matter" he scoffed, crossing his arms. "It matters, Inuyasha, so it can be like old times together" Kailanna pointed out matter-of-factly.
Inuyasha just looked over at her in a downgraded state of shock, taking in her features. Kailanna was so feminine compared to the last time he had seen her, the last time he was seen her she looked like a little boy. But everything about her was so feminine now, her body was definitely feminine now, Inuyasha as hard-headed and stubborn but not oblivious, the girl – or should he say – woman, had filled out extremely nice. Inuyasha noticed the way her hips and bust were perfectly proportioned and how her height was perfect for her stature, and it was all perfectly framed by her short pale green, one piece kimono. Although now all grown up Inuyasha was still a good 4 inches taller than her. Her hair had become much longer than the bowl cut her mother had given her all of the time and again, was much more feminine and attractive. Lastly her facial features, oh her facial features, they are probably the most attractive, feminine thing about her. They were so grown and womanly, she looked approachable but at the same time rough and a force to be reckoned with. He looked at her already pale red eyes that now looked pink with the sunlight on her face.
"I swear on my Father if you keep staring at me I will throw you off this damned cliff" Kailanna stated quickly, snapping Inuyasha out of his day dreaming. "Heh..." Inuyasha rubbed the back of his head, "I just- It's hard to believe your here right now is all I'm sayin'." "Why's that hard to believe?" She asked curiously. "Well I was stuck on a tree for 50 years, you should be much older than this Kailanna and the last time I saw you, you were being taken away and I didn't do anything" Inuyasha stated quickly, sounding disbelieving.
Kailanna nodded, still looking at the sunrise. "I knew you would wonder this, I mean, you're hot-headed not stupid and I knew you would figure out something was up. But let me tell you one thing Inuyasha, we were young it's not that you didn't do anything it's that you couldn't do anything, even if you wanted to" she stopped for a second and took a deep breath. "Now let me explain, when we were kids our village leader found out about us, he sent for me, and only me, he figured that a girl who was half demon half human would be of great use to him. He thought that I would be able to protect him and serve him as a slave well. I did for awhile, obeying his orders but two years after you got pinned to that tree I rebelled against this man holding me and he punished me by finding a monk whos specialty was concealment." Kailanna stopped for a brief moment and began again, "They concealed me in some sort of ice block deep in a cave and was released a few months after you were released from the tree by Kagome. I was released by other demons that knew of my story and knew of my father, they wanted me to become one of their team members and join them in finding the sacred jewel shards. Of course I was confused, last thing I knew was the jewel being whole and burned with Kikyo's body, never to be seen again." She took a deep breath and continued, "Of course I had power bottled up inside of me so I refused and killed them, without hesitation, without remorse, honestly, and it scared me. It was all new to me but I realized that this was my true nature and my father would be proud of me." She stopped and smiled a second, thinking of her father. "That night my father came to me in a dream, telling me about Vanyokai, about its abilities and where to find it. Most importantly about you, he told me to find you and help you. He wanted us to be together, as comrades like our fathers were, fighting evil with our own version of evil that was still good or at least had good meaning behind it. Now you would ask why I didn't find you right away. Well being a slave never gave me time to train and I had just gotten Vanyokai so I wanted to be able to be battle ready and not be a burden so I trained, I searched for demons to fight so I could become stronger and I finally did so I came to find you." She shrugged. "I actually did find you about a month ago but I didn't know how to approach you." She finished off quietly.
Inuyasha listened very intently but didn't stare at her while she was talking because he knew she was speaking literally when she said that she would throw him of the cliff if she caught him staring again, so he just looked out at the view like she was. "Honestly I liked how everything turned out" she put in quickly. Inuyasha then looked at her, "Yeah, me too."
Just then Kagome burst through some bushes behind Kailanna and Inuyasha, breathing heavily. "There..." she huffed, "There you guys are! Come on you guys have to come see this!" There was a worried tone in her voice.
