Leah tried her best to keep Sam's hands off her. But when he asked her to dance it was unavoidable.

She allowed him to pull her to the dance floor. The song cranked out of the sound system the prom committee had set up when planning the 'Under the Sea' themed dance.

She couldn't help but grimace, feeling her white satin dress pull tight over her hips and thighs as she walked. Clearly Sam appreciated the skin-tight number Kim and her mother had forced her to wear. If it had been her choice, she would have arrived in sweats, a Laker's singlet and her Adidas slides.

There's always that one person that will always have your heart. You'll never see it coming, 'cause you're blinded from the start

Her spine stiffened when Sam pulled her close, rubbing his hands over her hips as he pulled her forward. He was basically thrusting into her in what could only be described as a dog in heat. She couldn't decide where to place her hands but glancing over at Paul Lahote and his girlfriend Nancy Raven, she opted for Sam's shoulders. It seemed as safe a place as any and didn't want to give Sam the impression she was interested.

At all.

Even before all the fame and people screaming your name, girl I was there, and you were my baby

She couldn't help but laugh sadly. The song was completely describing her life right now.

A wisp of black hair spinning caught her eye. Jacob was dancing with Tanya. For some reason he seemed disinterested, maybe even tired. Tired of Tanya, she hoped. Even though Jacob was a complete asshole, he was way too good for the strawberry blonde. He had always been too good for any of them. Anyone that knew anything, knew Jacob Black was going to the NBA, just like his daddy.

Leah sighed, leaning into Sam just a little so she could keep peeking over his shoulder at the dancing couple. Sam seemed to take this as a sign and slid his hand down her lower back, fingertips pressing into the cleft of her ass.

It started when we were younger, you were mine, my boo

Glancing up, Leah found Jacob staring over at her, and more notably at Sam's hand. His dark brows pressed deeply on his forehead, as if deep in thought. She couldn't help the heavy-lidded emotion that slid over her. Jacob was... he was her friend. Sometimes her only friend, but even then, her very best friend. Not that anyone could tell half the time. They just... were. Leah and Jacob. It had always been like that, at least for her.

Even though Jacob was popular and had friends for days, when they were at home, or when Jacob came over in the middle of the night because his parents were arguing again, it was different.

In those moments he wasn't the popular, jock Jake. He was just her friend. Her friend who had the same dreams as her, who lived and dreamed to get away from their shitty little lives and be more.

She didn't mind being ignored in the hallways when real life finally caught up to them. It was just the way things were. Jacob had a different girl hanging off his arm each week (gold-digging no doubt) and she did nothing but concentrate on ball and school. She couldn't afford distractions like having a boyfriend, and she didn't have a daddy with money or a daddy who had the 87' record for the most three-pointers in the league. Her daddy was just a simple man who managed one of the small private banks in the city.

I was in love with you when we were younger, you were mine, my boo

When Jacob's eyes met hers, she was surprised to find a different array of emotions passing through them. But before she could start to interpret them, Jacob turned, pulling a giggling Tanya with him towards the exit. Or the bathrooms. Whatever. Leah didn't care.

I don't know bout y'all, but I know about us and uh, it's the only way we know how to rock
