The rumour of the passing of the great King of Men passed eastwards from Lindon since Elronds return. Carried by the wind, it passed the great forest of Eriador. Over the Misty Mountains and the large river and through the plains and forests of central Middle Earth. Finally, it reached the southeastern ranges of Orocarni.
A narrow gorge ran through the mountains here. It was silence and dark as it lay well below the Gates of Morning. At the end of the gorge, a flat red cost met the dark sea. No elf or human had ever sat foot here.
There at easternmost point of Middle Earth, he stood; Alone looking over the sea hoping for his master to return. However the road to the east had been closed by Eru, and he knew he would have to wait until the final battle before his master could return.
Once he had been given the chance for repentance, but he feared the court of Mandos and he ran and hid here, together with other survivors from Thangorodrim.
However now the rumour hit him. For the first time he turned around and looked west.
"The Human king is dead!" He declared.
"The westerns lords could not prevent this; they do not care of Middle Earth, and Man is left alone with a destiny he cannot understand and fear."
Around him, evil creatures gathered. He started walking towards the gorge. The orcs surrounding him followed. They were all afraid.
As he reached the start of the Gorge. One of the orcs cried
"There are a great force living in the mountains. Many of us was eaten trying to come here!"
"No" he said, "I will protect you. Stay here as shadows to the end, or seek power in Middle Earth!"
He walked into the gorge, the orcs followed slowly. They were less than two hundred in numbers.
When they were at the middle of the gorge, several orcs started to scream. They pointed to the dark slopes of the mountains the north side.
Many red spots and hairy legs could be seen against the dark sky at the top of slopes.
The orcs panicked and started to run back.
"She will eat us", they cried.
"Stay!" he ordered them, "Wait for my return"
He then started to climb towards the creature.
She backed into a cave and he followed her.
There she stood as a human figure, dark but beautiful.
"So you took refuge here at the east as so many others"
She answered, "I found a gorge like this in the west, where men and Avari passed. I feasted on them. But like you I went here when the world changed."
"Come with me" he asked
"No", she said, "I fear Orome, he is still out there. If I eat, and I will, he will hear me."
"Then stay and starve!" he said.
"I will take your orcs!" she threatened him.
He looked at her. She was desperate.
"I starve! Almost no humans live in these mountains and no Avari either. There are only the dwarves and I cannot eat them."
"I will come back with orcs and humans tenfold the number that follow me now, if you let us through!"
"Our masters could not keep their agreement," she stated.
"Take one now", he said.
She looked at him; "You honour your promise, and I will be your allied. Dishonour it, your enemy"
He returned to the orcs.
The passage is cleared for us.
They walked to the western entrance to the gorge. It was night. The landscape was dark, but lights from fires could be seen many places.
He stood for a while. "Orome is not here, the Valars has left Middle Earth" he said
The orcs slowly caught up with him.
He pointed out to the fields. "Behold Middle Earth!"
"The humans of Middle Earth live in small cities. They are often hostile to each other as there are no common order between them.
"Will they be hostile to us?" an orc asked.
"Those who went east became friends with the Orcs, before the elves met them. They live to the east and south of Middle Earth. They will welcome you, but they are few. There were also a few who became friends with the Avari. However, the most humans swore no allegiance to other than themselves."
"They are the key to rule Middle Earth. We will bring order to them and to Middle Earth" he continued
"However, we will have other allied, friends of my master, that have gone into hiding…"
A terrible scream filled the night. It was coming from the gorge. The orcs looked in panic at each other.
He looked at them. "I had to give her one of you, so she got the slowest"
He started walking into the plains of Middle Earth, "Let us find our human allies!"
"Don't be slow!" he said, and the orcs hurried after him.
