I turned down my radio when Charlie's house came into view. I noticed Mr. Black sitting in his truck, watching Charlie and Jacob coming the back of the house. They were carrying a grill to load up Mr. Black's truck.
I parked on the street, not trying to block them in. "Hey, guys!" The men looked up , smiling at me.
"Bella!" Jacob called out, accidently dropping the grill, which led to Charlie nearly falling over. Mr. Black just sighed at his son. Jacob immediately went back to the grill to load it up. "Are we going somewhere else?" I asked as walked up, patting Charlie on the shoulder.
"We are moving it out to the reservation. We thought it was better space wise." Mr. Black explained, frowning as the truck rocked.
I laughed. "I will go check on the boys, before they wreck your truck. We don't want Charlie to throw his back out." I went around to see the wheel was caught on the door. I grabbed Charlie's end and lifted and pushed on the truck bed.
"See, all you needed was a woman's touch. Did you needed help with anything else? I bought some things for the cookout." I asked, hi-fiving Jacob.
"No, everything is already loaded in my car. Let me just lockup. You guys can head out." Charlie said, turning away to head back to his front door.
"Do you want to ride with me, Jake? I have plenty of space." I offered, looking to see what he has to say.
"Dad, I'm riding with Bella." He tapped the top of the car.
"I see how it is. Abandon me for the pretty girl." Mr. Black joked, teasing his son.
Jake scowled at his father. "And this why I don't bring friends over." Jake teased.
"I really hang out with you Jake, because Mr. Black is awesome. I guess I can endure your presence until the end of the cookout." I joined the teasing, walking to my car. I waved to Mr. Black, Jake trailing, mock hurt.
I unlocked the doors, tossing the keys to Jake, looking surprised from the sudden action. "It would be faster for you to drive and plus I'm lazy at the moment." I said, getting into the passenger seat.
"And why should I help you? I'm chopped liver!" Jake asked with a serious tone, while getting in the car.
"Because I'm adorable." I said simply, putting on my seatbelt. Mr. Black and Charlie drove past us, honking their horns.
Jake shook his head, turning around in the street and following the older duo. Ten minutes in the ride and we were talking about random things.
"So, I know the last time I saw you, you were telling me that you were into motorbikes, so I called around to the junkyards. The one in Port Angeles, Sal's Junkyard, has two motorbikes in his lot, both of them going for $600. Do you want to check them out when you have a free day in the next week." I offered, knowing how much he appreciate mechanics.
"Yeah, that will be awesome!" He commented, going around the bend, opening to a whole new scenery. The lake that surrounded cliffs and the woods. It was beautiful.
"Wow, it's beautiful out here, Jake. I never came out this far." I couldn't help but take a picture.
"Dork." Jake insulted me, laughing at my narrow eyes.
"Jacob Black, we are now enemies." I said, fake karate chopping his neck.
"Ey, I can take you. Can you see these guns?" Jake teased, pulling in behind Charlie.
"Your little dollar store plastic water guns? Not impressed." I teased back, getting out the car. I closed the door, looking up to Jake's house, which is my first time on the reservation.
I squeal out of shock as Jake throws me over his shoulder. "Water guns, my ass!" He mumbles.
Taking advantage, I straighten out, extending my arms like an airplane. "Whee!" I squeal as he twirls me around.
"Having fun?" I heard a voice call out. I didn't recognized the voice.
"Embry, this is Bella!" Jake introduced us, but I was still over his shoulder.
"She's perky!" Embry said, snickering.
I laughed as Jake groaned, who set me on my feet. I turned to face Embry, who had his hair cut shorter to his shoulders and slender than Jake. But he was definitely toned. His brown eyes stood out against his bronze skin.
"Yoga does the glutes good." I joked back, reaching out to shake his hand. I could tell he has a joyful personality and equally smart ass.
"So, you are the girlfriend?" Another boy popped up, taller than last and a little bit broader. His hair was short, slightly curled. He was slightly paler than the two standing around me.
"Oh yeah! The one that was really prettier than the rest and my future wife. Blah. Blah. Blah." Embry teased, nudging the other boy.
Jake rolled his eyes at my teasing look. "Quil, I'm quite sure I said she was a friend that was a girl. The rest was Embry's demented imagination." Jake countered as he poked Embry. Without notice, Embry tackle Jake to the ground.
Quil move around the fighting pair, coming next to me. He shoves his hand into his pockets as we watch the scuffling pair.
"Five bucks that Embry wins!" Quil flashes the money. I took one look at Jake and scoff at my companion.
"As if!" I said as I pulled a ten out of my pocket. We were over here cheering like crazy fans. Soon enough, Embry pinned Jake, leading to Quil to do a little victory dance, while I was glaring at my losing gladiator.
I traded the ten with the five as Quil smiled smugly. "We are now enemies, Quil!" I declared as I helped up Jake.
He laughs as he fans himself with his measly ten bucks, but Embry quickly swipes it and ran towards the back of the house, Quil hot on his trail.
"Are you okay?" I ask as brush off the dust and grass of him. I pluck grass from his hair.
"Those are my crazy best friends. Welcome to the pack, Bella." Jake joked as lead me to the back yard.
"Glad to be part of it." I said.
Fast Forward
It was already 8:30 at night and I was still having fun. Jake and I was playing volleyball against Embry and Quil, who was terribly losing. We might have cheated a couple of times, because Seth was totally on my side. I spiked the ball, causing Embry to face plant trying to get it back over the net.
Jake and I did our awkward victory dance, talking mad smack. "What was that, Quil?! The sound of VICTORY!" I mocked as I dodged the ball.
"Are you mad or nah?" Jake laughed as he ran from Embry. Taken by surprise, I was put into a gentle sleeper hold by Quil. Just to show off, I flipped him over onto ground.
I laughed and Quil just looked shock. The boys joined in the teasing and Embry beg me to teach him that.
"Guys, I will be right back. I should go check my phone." I ran towards my car, unaware of Sam Uley's eyes trailing after me. It was low light from the streets as I opened my car door to grab my phone. I sat on my seat as I hit the power button to see three miss calls, all from my father.
I frowned as I noticed no calls from Edward, which was weird. He at least gives me about two calls a day when we are not together. I dial his number, only for it to go to voicemail. I hit end and scroll down to Alice number.
I was ready to hit dial, but was distracted by the movement at the end of my car. I looked over to see a leg peeking out. I settled my phone down and walked down to end, only to see a boy sitting against my car.
He seem not to take notice of me or didn't care, but I watched him turn up his beer to his lips, gulping down the beverage.
"It's rude to stare." He spoke out, looking up to me. I had to keep my face expression steady as I saw the fresh wounds of a bruised face.
"Well, it's rude to sit in the dark and almost give a girl a heart attack, but all is forgiven. Are you okay?" I asks, contemplating getting someone to help.
"Probably in another two beers, I will be." He snapped, going back to the beer. I rolled my eyes as I opened my back door and got in to reach in the trunk. I shuffled around to find my first aid kit. I snatched it up, shutting the door, hearing a slight groan.
I came back around to sit next to him, moving his six pack away. He protested as I opened the white box to get alcohol swabs.
"May I?" Even though I took it upon myself to dab the busted eyebrow. He grabs my wrist, hissing from slight sting.
"I don't even know you." He glared at me, keeping my wrist in his hand.
"I'm Bella, Jake's friend. You?" I countered. He stared, before letting go. I paused, not knowing I should continue.
"I'm bleeding out. Are you going to finish, Nurse Bella?" He said sarcastically.
I regret helping him. "Don't be an ass!" I pressed on the eyebrow wound rougher than I intended. He flinched, but otherwise didn't make another move.
"Sorry, whoever you are." I said as I went back to gentle caresses. I cleaned the wound, then applied a small bandage over it.
"Paul Lahote." He said
"Hmmm?" I asked, brushing his upper lip with a clean alcohol swab.
"Paul is my name." He repeated, eyes closed and head leaned back.
"I'm sure Jacob mention you. The name sounds familiar." I activated a ice pack, then passed it over to him.
"Wait here." I ordered. I went to my car again, reaching in for the aspirin bottle that was in glove compartment.
I came back to Paul to see that he was fast asleep. I groaned as I turned back around to get some help, only to let out small shriek, because of Sam Uley standing behind me.
"Geez! Do anyone know how to make noise anymore?" I sighed as I looked up to him.
He looked down at me, small frown on his face. "Sorry." He simply said, looking around me.
Finally, my senses came back to me. "Oh, yes! I was just about to get someone to help me with the guy passed out against my car. He said his name is Paul." I said, backing towards the unconscious boy.
Sam followed, stopping when he reached Paul. He leaned down to assist Paul.
"I can help…" I started to say, but Sam hoisted him over his shoulder just as easy as a feather.
"Nevermind then." I moved over slightly, hearing footsteps heading my way.
"Bella! What's taking you so long?" Jake came around the car, only to stop. He froze as his eyes laid on Sam Uley, who only nodded at him. Sam walked off with Paul without another word. Jake remained tense until Sam disappeared from view.
I touched Jake shoulder, who snapped out of his trance. "What's wrong, Jake?" I asked concern.
"Nothing. I just don't really don't like him. The ways he looks at me like… he's waiting for something. Anyways, was that Paul he was carrying?" He asks, leaning against my car.
I could tell from strong scent from Sam, I can safely assume that he was full fledge werewolf and he was probably waiting for Jake to transition. "Yeah. He was pretty beaten up and I was helping him out. That was what was holding me up." I told him, tossing my first aid back in the car.
"That's sucks. I'm sure my dad will check on tomorrow, no doubt the whole community hear about it. Are you coming back?" Jake asks, pushing his hair back.
"Noooo, I have to go back home and study. I promised." I said.
"Fine, I will let you go. Hug." Jake pulled me into his for a quick hug. I held him tight before moving a way. He opens my door for me, then closes after me once I'm situated.
I start the engine, immediately letting down my window. "Text me, so I know you made it home okay. Lord knows my father will badger me about it."Jake said, moving away.
"Okay, worry wart." I said. I reversed from the driveway, glad I'm not box in.
I started to shift to drive, snapping my head up to my name being called.
"Bella, baby come back to me. I'm lost without you!" Embry started to howl out lyrics.
The boys started to laugh at their silliness. "Booooo!" I yelled, before driving off.
I pulled into the Cullen's driveway, only to be disappointed that no one is home. The lights were off and their cars were gone. I frowned as I tried to figure out where they could be. I drove back to main road and went home.
I grabbed my personals, then headed to the house. "I'm home!" I said out loud. I sent off a quick text to Jake, then sat my phone on the table. I looked up to see Lucy walking into the kitchen, glass of red wine in hand.
"How was your day?" Lucy inquired, sitting at the table.
I smiled, sitting across from her. "It was great, It was nice to be social and meeting new people. Everyone was very friendly. What did you do for your day?" I relaxed against my chair, kicking my shoes off.
Lucy smiled lightly. "Well, your dad and I drove up to Port Angeles and just did some sight seeing. How about we postpone that lesson until tomorrow. I am soo tired from walking around." Lucy said, sliding away from the table.
"Hey, Is Emmett upstairs? I was trying to reach the Cullens, but wasn't home or answering their phones." I asked Lucy before she left to go upstairs.
"I haven't seen him since I've been here and Angela called to say that she's spending a night at Jessica's. Your best bet is to ask Mikael." Lucy explained.
"Thanks. Goodnight, Lucy." I said, grabbing my shoes and getting up as well. I trudged up the stairs, heading to my room. I dropped my shoes to the ground and tossed myself across my bed. Next thing, I know I was asleep.
I shuffled around the house, looking for my car keys, already running late. "Bella." Dad spoke from behind me, jiggling keys. I turned around to see my keys in his hand.
I sighed with irritation as I grabbed my backpack. I took my keys and gave my goodbyes. I got situated, before heading to school.
I pulled into the school's parking, ten minutes before first class to start. I looked over to the Cullens usual parking space, frowning when I didn't see their familiar cars. I sent a quick text to Edward, walking into my classroom. I looked up to seek out Angela, who was sitting in the back with Jessica and Mike.
I observed her, seeing that she was happy. I knew it was hard on her to be outcast by her friends. It was nice to see her not to glum. I walked towards the back, sitting in the corner, a couple seats over from Angela.
"Good morning, Bella! How was your day out yesterday?" Angela asked, cuffing her thermo close to her face.
"It was great. How was your time with Emmett?" I asked in return, ignoring the look Jessica gave.
"It was fun. We did local activities, like going to the diner and light walking. The Forks' local theatre had a Shakespeare play going on and it was good." Angela replayed her day.
"That is nice. Speaking of Emmett, do you know where he went after he dropped you off?" I asked, trying to understand the sudden M.I.A. moves the Cullens have initiated.
"I know that he got a phone call from Alice, during the play. He seem concerned, but he didn't leave, so I assumed nothing was wrong. Did he come back to your house last night?" Angela questioned.
"No, but I'm sure everything is fine." I said, turning my attention to the teacher, but mentally I wasn't there. Through the first four periods, I looked for the Cullens, raising my head everytime the door opened.
After lunch, I completely given up trying to contact anyone and tried to salvage the rest of my day. I nearly ran over everyone when that final bell rung. I said my goodbyes, having everything I needed for homework. My vibrated, small hope bubbled in me, only to popped when I saw Angela name.
'I will be around later. I'm talking with Eric." Angela texted.
I slipped my phone my pocket, then got in my car, shoving everything on the backseat. I made my way home, thinking what could be happening. I pulled into my driveway, no other cars around. I turned off my car, sitting back in my seat.
I looked around, my sight stopping when noticing a familiar figure. His bronze eyes met mine and I knew nothing he was about to say was going to be good.
