hey guys! I'd like to just thank whoever took the time to read this and to please comment and leave suggestions on future characters, I thought I'd try this chapter from Marine's POV, thanks!
It had been 2 hours since JK and marine had left new bark town and where still arguing over JK's 'debt' to her.
"Just who do you think you are demanding a payment from me, all you did was provide a moving target in what you called 'help' "
Marine bit back immediately "if it wasn't for me you and your darling little aipom wouldn't have survived two seconds without corsala taking all them hits for him"
"TWO" he shouted "two hits" he reiterated "corsala took two measly hits before hitting the deck like a sack of potatoes, if it wasn't for aipom taking all those attacks, who'd knows where we would be"
. "Well regardless, I was promised a payment and I deserve it. Besides, I need that money for head shots".
At this point they had arrived in cherry grove city, it had taken them remarkably faster then on the way there providing they stuck to the path.
"Heads shots!" He snapped.
"I've been listening to you witter on for 2 fucking hours for headshots!"
"OI" bellowed a deep voice behind him. Marine turned with a small scream from the startling voice behind her. But JK froze completely still, because he knew what that voice was, it was his dad's.
"I have not raised a son that has such a foul mouth" be proclaimed "and especially not to use such language in the presence of a young lady" he said.
Marine blushed "so you're JK's famous father he never stops talking about, nice to meet you sir, I'm marine" she said with a flattering tone.
He responded with a throaty chuckle.
"So JK, feel like giving your father A hug, or at least turn round, since you didn't even bother saying goodbye yesterday"
"Wonder where I got that from" he responded with a sarcastic tone.
Marine noticed how JK's personality switched within a heartbeat, his boisterous and loud voice quickly changed to quiet and deep. She noticed how now he kept reserved and lowered his head to the floor, like just his fathers presence subdued his persona completely.
What made it worse was that his father seemed to be aware of this and continued to press on, almost intentionally restraining him.
"It's nice to meet you marine, my name is Gary, how about the you accompany me and JK back at our place and we can discuss that debt I heard you two on about ." She could see that JK felt uncomfortable, but she kind of enjoyed it.
"I'd love too, JK why don't you have such courtly manners?" With a grin
The three made there way to JK's house, it was on a large plot of land, although the gym in the back took up most of the land.
JK's house was rather small and sparsely furnished, to say 4 lived there. Marine took note that although the family seemed close, the house lacked a homely touch
She sat and Ate dinner with the family, although JK's words where and far and few
"So marine" said JK's mom. "How did such a pretty girl like you get stuck with my son?" She asked playfully.
"Well you see that's quiet a story" she giggled back
"I've heard all about this story from the professor " said his dad.
"And I'm afraid Me and your mother have come to the conclusion that it's to dangerous for you to continue with this journey of yours, and besides, you never even got a pokedex or a pokemon"
JK leapt out of of his chair, knocking over his drink in the process "I do have a pokemon, I have aipom!".
His tone shocked marine and his mother, who tried to defuse the situation. "Well you can keep aipom, and even your kakuna if you want, but we have..."
JK cut in "you mean HE decided!"
His father remained silent.
"Sure, maybe if you had some sort of justification, but all you have done is suppress me and kept me from my journey. I never even wanted a pokedex, and from the second I met aipom, I knew I didn't want a Totodile either. All I want is to challenge the gyms and enter the silver conference. And with aipom I'm going to do that! No matter what you say!"
His father then also leapt out of his chair, he had a a furious look on his face, like he was ready to knock JK to the floor. Marine was terrified.
At that moment the doorbell rang. For a few seconds after there was a stare off before JK's dad left the room. JK surprisingly followed, as did marine.
"Hello sir, my name is Joey and I would like to challenge
Your gym, I only have a one pokemon so I'd like a 1v1 please"
He was clearly a new trainer, and didn't really take notice of the rules
"I'm sorry, but I'm afraid to challenge my gym you need a minimum of 3 pokemon, however you can still have a battle, but against my son" said Gary
Both marine and JK looked as shocked as one another
"I'd love to sir, thank you"
Gary turned to JK "if you can prove your skill by defeating Joey here, I'll let you go on your journey, however if you lose, you stay at home"
JK let out a sly grin "deal"
Marine, JK and his family all made there way to the gym in the back, it's style matched the house on the front. it was wooden, like a dojo and had a large official dusted battle ground. Suiting for a normal type gym.
Marine sat with Rosie and JK's mum (Jessie) on the sidelines, although there was only a few homemade wooden benches made out of the trees in the garden.
She noticed JK had lost his grin and was sweating, he looked terribly nervous.
"One on one battle, no substitutes"
Gary had declared as referee.
"Go aipom"
"Go rattata!"
"JK should have this" thought marine. "Do you think my son has a chance of winning marine?" Asked Jessie.
"He managed to defeat that rocket duo and Kourey with no battle experience, he has a real talent as a trainer" she responded, although, he seems completely off, it's the effect his father has on him.
"Aipom, use cut!" JK commanded
"Double team rattata"
Rattata multiplied at great speed and the multiples surrounded aipom as it only hit one replica. JK looked completely flummoxed.
"Now quick attack!"
The replicas charged one by one, passing through aipom like ghosts until the real rattata connected with aipom whilst it was in a state of shock, sending it flying across the battlefield.
"Aipom!" JK looked distressed seeing aipom being hurt.
"Try sand attack!" He said in desperation, his father looked like he disapproved.
"Dodge and use bite"
Rattata leapt out the way of the swipe of sand and bit Aipom's tail in its blind spot, causing a wail of pain
I can't watch this anymore
"JK!" She shouted,
"Pull yourself together, I've seen you in battle and this isn't you! Now prove to your father that you've got what it takes!"
Her words seemed to have gotten through to JK
"You're right marine, let's go aipom! Spin now!" Aipom responded by spinning with a quick motion, whipping its tail with great force, sending the latched on Rattata flying back at the feet of joey.
"Now use swift!" Before Rattata could even get back to its feet. It was hit by a bombardment of the honing star attack.
"Rattata, get up" at this point it was struggling, obvious it was lacking in battle experience.
"Use double team" it responded, but much more sluggish this time but succeeded in surrounding aipom.
JK grinned "aipom, spin with sand attack" the command even shocked his father. Aipom spun on its back like a dancer, using its tail to scoop sand and swipe it in a circular motion, wiping out the replicas as fast as they appeared, in addition to blinding the real Rattata.
marine found herself cheering him on, but why? She thought she didn't even like the arrogant brat. But in battle he had some sort of charisma about him that was just polarising. There was no denying he wasn't an average trainer.
"Finish it aipom, use cut" aipom charged with two white bladesin its hands
"Rattata, look out" joey didn't know what to do, but there wasn't anything he could do, it was over.
Joey let out a cry, scooped up his pokemon and ran out sobbing.
Marine noticed his father looked reluctant, "Rattata is unable to battle... Aipom is the winner"
The next thing marine knew she was hugging JK, and after she was being pushed off him. He ran to his father Immediately
"So, it looks like I'll be going on my journey now" JK said with a smile
"I'm afraid not..." Replied his father "that battle was to easy and it was to difficult to gauge your strength, maybe next time"
JK looked completely distraught, marine had had enough
"With the greatest respect sir, but you and JK had a deal, not only that but I think it is obvious to everyone here that JK has a talent that needs to be explored. And one more thing, the only reason he struggled so much to start off is because you, his own father makes him feel like he can't be himself!"
Gary let out a great laugh. "You know what marine, you're absolutely right. JK you can go on your journey, but I have 2 conditions.
JK's eyes lit up "really! Anything! Please!"
"The first, is that I want marine to accompany you on your journey, the two of you have a great chemistry and I know you will look after him"
"We do! I mean... I will." Marine responded.
He smiled
"and secondly, JK, when you have 7 badges, I want you to come back home and challenge me and we can truly test if you are ready for the silver conference. You with your aipom, and me and my ursaring" he held out his hand
"Deal" JK shook his hand with his confident nature, reborn
"And finally, marine, I'd like you to take this" he took a small golden ball out of his pocket." I think this should cover my son's debt to you, take it to the violet photo booth in the next city, and it'll get you a full photoshoot, with Plenty left over"
"Thank you so much sir" she snatched the nugget and tucked it into her pocket.
The next morning JK and marine set off from his now old home. This time, his mom,Rosie and even his dad and ursaring saw them off.
"You're dad sure will be a tough one to beat" said marine
"Let's not get ahead of ourselves" JK said modestly
"And marine?"
"Yes?"
"I'd just like to thank you for yesterday, if it wasn't for you, I wouldn't have had to go on my journey, I really do owe you one" she looked at him and blushed. Maybe he's not so bad after all, she thought.
"Well one thing is for sure JK"
"Yeah, what's that?"
"It sure will be a picture when your aipom and ursaring battle with their matching scarves!"
