Luke hated the feeling of the stinging ointment being poured into his gashes, but he detested the oozing infection slightly more. The way the woman handled him was kind and motherly, she gently caressed his cheek as she emptied the stinging content into his head. He didn't think anybody working for the empire could be so tender. The only thing he wasn't a fan of was her constant nicknaming him with sickly sweet names such as 'sweetheart' and 'angel'. Attempting to refocus his concentration Luke tried his best to analyse the brunette woman in front of him. She was extremely pretty for her age, which must've been her late 30's, her brown glossy hair swept past her shoulders and her chocolate-y eyes seemed to match. She was slender, her white coat thinning at her waist. Luke almost felt as if she had a ghostly presence with her pale skin and white coat, as well as her pale blue pencil dress. She looked strict yet soft. Luke felt a yawn rush up his throat, but he kept his mouth firmly shut, refusing to appear vulnerable in front of another person.
"Are you sure you have had enough rest? Your eyes are twitching. Maybe you should get a bit more darling" the medic soothed, pulling the flap of skin that hung to his head by the tag of his flesh away with a pair of tweezers. Luke cringed, her voice hitting a new level of high, she traced over every word slowly as if he wouldn't understand her otherwise.
"No, I think I've slept enough. How long until I can leave the medbay?" He asked, playing with the robe that covered him like a cape. It made his face heat up as he remembered the man and this woman had seen him almost completely naked, his dignity lost to the cold void of space.
"All depends on your occupation sweetheart. If you're a pilot I'd say not for two weeks, must have those wounds fully healed before we let you go, if you're a captain I'd say in a few days, it won't matter as much, what is it you do for the empire?" She asked curiously, taking a comb and brushing Luke's hair out of his face. The rebel stared at her, unsure of what to say. The woman seemed to sense his uncomfortable state and gave him a sympathetic smile. "Never mind that, so young man I do have a few questions for you if that's okay. I have spoken to Lord Vader extremely briefly and he's told me a few small things about you just to test your memory. What's your name?"
"Luke" he introduced, pulling away discreetly as the woman turned and grabbed a tube of gel, the content was squeezed out onto her hand, causing Luke to gag at the vibrant green colour.
"And how old are you Luke?"
"22" he answered truthfully, hissing as his shoulders caught the pillow behind him. He didn't notice the funny look on her face to began with, but when he did it began to worry him. "I-is there something wrong?"
"I'm just a little concerned, I know you've got a fever but forgetting your age isn't a normal symptom of that" She looked down on him, studying his confused features before placing her free hand on his head.
"I haven't forgotten, I am 22! Check my records" Luke retorted, attempting to sit up with great difficulty.
"Don't sit up, you're going to hurt yourself more. I don't have access to your records but Lord Vader has told me everything I need to know about you" she soothed, holding his chin up with the hand she'd previously lay across his head. Luke attempted to pull away as she began slathering his cheek in the green gel, that had a very perculiar smell to it.
"What's this for?" Luke asked, closing his eyes and she rimmed his eyelids.
"To hydrate your skin, it's extremely dry and will cause you itchiness, this will help quite a lot" she smiled. "I'm yet to introduce myself to you, I'm Dr. Kelvin, but Carrie is absolutely fine. You might be seeing a lot more of me if your wounds aren't healing properly-" Luke just began to zone the woman out afterwards, his weakened muscles aching and his head burning. He wanted this all to end, to go back to the alliance and go to sleep in his bunk room with Wedge, who always comforted him when he woke up with a nightmare about Vader. He wanted nothing more than to see Han who, despite never showing his emotions, always made the time and effort to make sure Luke was ok. And most of all he missed Leia. She was like a sister to him, she was always there for him and he tried to be there for her too, they had each other's backs constantly. Luke was cut off from his thoughts as Vader and the Admiral re entered his room, both looking extremely focused.
"Good evening m'lord. Luke seems to be feeling okay in himself, although he has a high fever and doesn't quite remember a few things about himself he should do. His cuts will heal up over time, although I am almost certain the gash on his forehead will need surgery, which we can fit in tomorrow at- 1000 tomorrow. The task will be handled by myself, my fellow medic and our medical droid"
"Congratulations" Vader drawled sarcastically, earning a frown from the medic. For somebody who seemed to be saddened by Vader's presence she sure knew how to challenge him. "if the work continues I may not to kill you after all" Luke stared at Vader in a horror as he sat on the bed and took his son's hand. Carrie seemed to take the hint as she left the room as quietly as she could, her presence no longer wanted.
"Admiral Piett has been informed on the predicament at hand. He is to remain with you until you undergo the surgery tomorrow, which I will then collect you from and take you to our private quarters. We will began training as soon as you have recovered" Vader stated sternly, watching Luke's face grow more and more mortified by the minute.
"No" the youngest male challenged, glaring at both imperials. "You can leave Admiral Babysitter with me as much as you want but it's not going to make me follow any of your rules, I absolutely refuse to be taught the dark side of the force, I will never join. Sharing your quarters with a monster like you is only going to make me want to kill myself even more"
An unsettling silence fell over the three, Luke raising his hands to shield his neck as he felt his father's anger bubble, not that it would make much difference if the man decided to choke him with the force.
"Admiral, inform cell block 2697 they need a cell cleared and-"
"Wait I-!"
"I assume you've learnt your lesson little one, do not press on matters that are beyond your control to change" Luke crumbled into a ball defeatedly at his father's reply, blinking back the angry tears that welled up in his eyes. Why his father had be Darth Vader, biggest tyrant of the galaxy after the emperor he would never know. It was never his mother he cried for, it was always his father. Not to mention the humiliation of being treated like a child was enough to make Luke feel sicker than a wampa on Tatooine.
"I shall wait in the ward m'lord. I wouldn't want to intrude while your son is so- unsettled" Admiral Piett explained nervously, letting himself out of Luke's private room.
"It is your destiny to join me son. You cannot fight it" Vader stated lowly, placing a hand on Luke's bony hip. The shivering 'teenager' let out a whimper as his father's fingers graced a sore spot on his skin.
"Why have you told the medic a fake age for me? What's the matter with my real age?" Luke whimpered, pulling his face from the pillow as it began to sweat.
"As the new imperial prince you will have to be announced to the galaxy soon. They will not have any explanation on why the heir would be hidden away for over 20 years. 15 years can be seen as a shorter time length and is usually accepted by the public quickly" Vader explained, watching once again as Luke cringed.
"You told them I was 15?" He grumbled, folding his arms childishly. He knew some of his blond hair had started growing back a few weeks after Bespin, he had loved having dark blond/brown hair as everybody had seen it as a sign of his maturity, but now his light blond hair had began returning and he could very much pass for a teenager, which disgusted him.
"Lord Vader" Carrie spoke up, her finger just leaving the sensory pad as the men turned to face her. "There is an officer requesting to see you, may I continue my examinations?"
"Do not disappoint me Doctor. By the time I return to pick the boy up tomorrow he must be looking healthier than he does at this present moment" Vader demanded, rubbing a black gloved finger across Luke's palm.
"Yes my lord, of course sir" she reassured him, noticing how the boy glared at both Vader and the Admiral, who was now stood in the doorway. Not too long later Vader left and the young woman continued her work in silence, save a few grunts or whines from Luke as she pressed over tender bruises.
"I'm almost finished. As you're being fed your nutrients through the tubes you won't need any food. I suggest you just get a lot of rest and hopefully by tomorrow you will be fit to leave" she comforted. Luke couldn't bring himself to respond, he knew if he spoke so much as a word he'd most likely cry, he was tired, sore, hungry, aching, lost, defenceless and weak. Just how Vader most probably wanted him. The medic finished off her work by sticking a thermometer in Luke's mouth, shaking her head at his extremely high temperature.
"That infection is really giving you quite a fever, I'll prescribe some drugs to calm your fever down but it may make you a bit nauseous" the brunette explained to both the admiral and Luke. "I will be round to give you one every six hours and hopefully it will be down by tomorrow"
Admiral Piett watched the woman leave the room before focusing on the boy.
"Lord Vader informed me he plans on assigning me as you're personal- assistant should I say-"
"Call it what you will but that won't make me like it" Luke snapped.
"I don't ever recall saying you must like it" the Admiral laughed, ignoring Luke's pouty lip. "But it is to be done." Carrie soon left as quick as she returned, forcing the medication into a reluctant Luke's mouth. Once she was sure the boy had swallowed the liquid she wished them the best of luck for the first half of the night before dashing off.
"It's going to be a long night" Luke huffed, clutching the pillow with his right hand, double checking no wires had come loose.
Pretty long chapter, I was up all night doing it and now the sleepiness has hit me in the face. And I have school in an hour and a bit. Yay.
Here are the reviews from the last chapter.
Kaeci Charlyss: do more chapters
Me: Here you go!
Reyella: This chapter's great. My condolences for your grandfather's passing.
Me: thank you. It was a sad day yesterday but I find comfort in knowing he isn't in pain (he had two types of cancer and a bone disease that I can't spell in his knees and elbows) but writing helps me stress relieve.
PadawanSkywalker (G): aww, this was a great chapter. I love when Luke said he didn't need a babysitter. That was just too funny. I'm sorry about your back, and I hope it gets better soon. (Ugh that sounds so shallow and no sincere, cuz that's what everyone says) I really so mean it, though. That's a great title and so creative. When I write stories, I always have a hard time coming up with titles. Ah, whatever. Your explanation was fine! And yes, I love Luke fluff too. He acts like such a kid sometimes. Was the Carrie reference a reference to Carrie Fisher? See you next time! Gotta go, my family's having a Christmas music dance party in the kitchen. (Yes, I'm aware it's only October XD) looking forward to the next chapter!
Me: wow! What a lengthy review! My favourite kind of reviews because I love reading them and realising someone took the time to type that out for my silly books XD. It's alright about the back thing, it's really kind of you to say that, though it's true that most people say it, but it doesn't mean you mean it any less. If you ever wanted any help with some writing or your titles I'd be more then happy too, just drop a review or we can sort another way of communicating if that'd be easier. I have to agree he is just a kid! I showed my sister's boyfriend a picture of Mark Hamill when he was 26 and said 'how old do you think he is?' And he said 'most likely 15' I laughed quite a lot. Yes it was a reference to Carrie, R.I.P space princess! All year long is a time to play Christmas songs so I don't blame you, glad you're enjoying the book and Thank you again for leaving such a long review, I love getting them.
Anyways fave if, follow it, forget it, do whatever you want with it. (Also please review)
