Chapter 4:
Leaf's perspective:
"Left anyone for me?" Red smiles, breaking the star pose he was stuck in. He glances around the room, looking at all our starters. Bulbasaur was sitting next to Green obnoxiously, refusing to make eye contact with Red. He then takes a look at Squirtle, but the mini turtle was too shy, retreated back to the comfort of her shell, leaving Blue holding the shell in her arms. Red smiles, and takes a look at Charmander, who, on the other hand, was dangling freely from my shoulder, taking my hat and wearing it for himself. Charmander flashes a smile while I grunt, waiting for him to return my cap. I didn't mind about it though, my thoughts were on something else. I wonder if Red is getting a pokemon. I shiver at the thought of him being left behind, because he's actually been around for me more than Blue and Green have. Come to think of it, he was the first one who played with me and greeted himself on the first day I arrived in Pallet.
Mum was unpacking the taped up boxes that were left outside from the delivery truck. I was a bit scared when my mum told me to meet the children in this town, because I never really had any friends where I lived last. I was snapped out of my thoughts when I saw a boy approach me. He wore an oversized red and white cap, and had messy black hair.
"Hello! My name's Red! I guess you're moving in to the new house!" Red grinned. I was too shy to say anything.
"Well what's your name?" The young boy said, pointing in my direction. I shivered, froze, I couldn't speak like I've been put on mute. I look around, and see a freshly fallen leaf that has just landed on the grass. I walk over to the little plant, and held it up so Red could see. He thought for a second before he replied.
"Is your name Leaf?" He asked. I replied with a nod. There was a short silence between us before Red spoke again.
"You don't talk much do you?" Red guesses. I shake my head at the question.
"I do, I'm just shy…" I reply softly. Red flashes a grin, and takes my hand, bringing me over to some toys laid out on the front porch of someone's house. I'm guessing the house is where he lives. He points at the toys.
"Do you want to play with me?" Red asks nicely. I nod, letting a smile take over my shy expression, and a little blush too.
"Well Red, are you ready to own your first pokemon?" I snap out of my daydream to the voice of the Professor speaking to the messy haired teen.
"What? Really? I thought I would miss out!" Red sighs in relief.
"Well, I do have ONE pokemon left, I normally tell kids like you that don't own an alarm clock that they have to wait next year, of until we can find a suitable starter for the trainer.
"I'll take it!" Red shouts, scaring the daylights out of me. He's full of so much energy it's like a cheetah that has been given a soda and can now run twice as fast. Professor Oak then reaches into his front pocket of his lab coat, and pulls out a red and white capsule. He hands it to Red, who is excited to get his starter. Red then examines the pokeball carefully before looking up to the Professor.
"Who's inside Professor?" Red asked, confused on what to do. The old man reveals a smile, and repostions himself back into his hands fusing together behind his back and standing my straight. Red turns his attention back to the pokeball, and smirks.
"Okay… Come out!" Red shouts, through the capsule in the air. The engulfing white light appears again, but fades to reveal one of my favourite pokemon. The yellow pokemon fell into his new trainer's arms, gazing at him with his black anime eyes. I admit, he was quite smaller than a normal Pikachu, and a bit different in colour.
"I take it Red that you know who this pokemon is? Your father had the same starter when he started his pokemon journey." The Professor explained. Red gazed at the pokemon in awe, looking at the Pikachu's amber fur, not yellow, amber. There was no doubt that this Pikachu was a shiny. It didn't take long for the others to figure it out either.
Now it get it! I bet Ash came by to drop off the caught Pikachu for Red, know that there are only three starters and that common sense told him that his son would oversleep, and would arrive late to choose his starter.
"Pika Pi!" The Pikachu squealed in delight. Red didn't realise that he forgot to introduce himself, so I made a metaphoric cough, signalling him to talk to his new starter. I felt something on top of my head, and looking up, I see the glimpse of the orange pokemon sitting on my head, messing around with my cap. I knew I was bound to get the starter with the troublemaker attributes.
"Oh! Sorry, my name is Red, and I'm going to be your trainer!" Red said, lifting Pikachu high up into the air with his hands. Pikachu squealed again in delight, showing affection to his new partner. It was a pretty cute moment, but that moment was ruined by someone standing behind Red, causing him to jump in fright.
"Leaf, we need to talk before you go." The woman says, looking at the restless Charmander. I grunt, knowing we have to talk.
"Okay mum, guys I'll meet you at the start of Route 1" I say to my travelling compainions.
"Don't take too long, we've waited long enough for Red." Green taunted, mainly towards Red.
"I'm forgetful, but not late, I'll meet you guys in 5. Thanks Professor for everything" I explain before walking out the door with my mother, waving at the old man who kindly waved back. She leads me back home, and shuts the door behind her. I could hear the pitter patter of Eevee coming down the stairs, and grind to a halt, looking at Charmander with my hat. I grab Charmander off my head, and place him next to the little fox.
"Why don't you two get to know each other and play for a bit?" I suggest. The two pokemon both nod, and went running off into the kitchen. My mum looks at me in distress.
"Mum… Please can I go?" I plead. My mum's expression doesn't change.
"Honey, thanks for cleaning your room, it's actually really good! But, if you go on this journey, they will find out sooner or later." She whispers. It's bothering me that I know I have to tell them, I can't keep it a secret, but I know I'll lose them, they won't like me anymore, they'll hate me. I paid more attention to myself than mum, and I know she can sense my worry. I spring up with hope still in my eyes.
"Mum, I am going to go with them on this journey! I don't want to be the one left behind, and I made a promise to the Professor to complete the pokedex!" I plead again, not knowing the outcomes of what my mum will say. I'm scared, and she knows that, but that's only 5% of what I'm feeling right now. The 95% of my emotions are excited, brave, happy, and full of confidence that I can accomplish my goals with my friends by my side. My mum lets out a sigh.
"You kids these days… Well you did clean your room… It's your choice honey, do what you want. But you know this won't go away. You will either have to tell them, or they will figure it out themselves." My mum explains sorrowfully, but a bit of happiness for me that I'm going to travel the region. I smile, and hug my mum, yelling thankyou a bunch of times before letting go.
"Well, I have to go now mum, you heard what Green said!" I said, calling Charmander's name. As I did, I head cluttering noises coming from the kitchen. I ran in to see what happened, and laughed inside at the sight. I could see Eevee sitting on the marble floors with a metaphoric water drop running down the side of her face, and I… I can't see Charmander that well under the pile of pots and pans he has knocked down from the cupboard. I see him break free of the metal cooking utensils, except for one still stuck on his head. He shakes his head, and tries to pull off the pot, his name echoing as he talks into the pot.
"Leaf what's hap- oh my!" My mum enters the room in shock, but also the same feeling as me, and lets a bit of laughter seep through her closed mouth. I walk over to the orange pokemon, kneeling down beside him, removing the pot from his head. He blinks a couple of times before realising my hat was lying near the mountain of chaos created by my him. After gaining his balance, Charmander walked over there, and grabbed the hat to put on. He smiles an apology to my mum, and we all cracked, laughing together. I grab Charmander, and placing him on my shoulder, letting him do what he wants. He doesn't like his pokeball very much, but he will return to it if it's an absolute emergency. I walk out the door, waving to Eevee and Mum as I race towards my friends, who are waiting patiently at the pathway to Route 1. I began to slow down, making my run into a walk, finding myself standing opposite Green and Blue. Red was busy playing with Pikachu to notice I was here. Green looked at me and smirked, but quickly turned his attention to something trailing behind me.
"Isn't your Eevee going to stay at home?" Blue questions. Green kneels down to the pokemon, and smiles while he gets back up.
"My guess is that she wants to go with you." Green tell me. I look down at Eevee's happy face, her bushy tail wiggling in the background. I smile, yet confused at the same time.
"Did you let mum know? Is she okay with it?" I ask Eevee.
"Quee QUEE! Eqee!" Eevee shouts happily. I guessing that that is a yes, and another yes. I pull out a blank pokeball from by bag, and bend down to touch Eevee on the head gently. A red light engulfed over Eevee as she squealed one last time before being retieved in the capsule. The pokeball shook three times before settling in my hand. Eevee was caught. I smile at Charmander, looking at the pokeball before placing it in my backpack.
I look up to my friends, seeing Red stand up with the Shiny Pikachu in his arms. I smile at them all, and gave Charmander a little scratch on the chin.
"Okay let's hit the road!" Red shouts. He marches forward as we all trail behind him.
Officially, our journey begins!
