Alex Cabot was having a bad week. Sunday evening abruptly ended with a phone call that led to Olivia's swift departure from a rather intimate connection with the blonde, after which time Alex discovered that her favorite vibrator no longer worked.
Monday morning lead to belligerent interaction with a defense attorney and his client. That same morning, Alex learned that Liz Donnelly demoted her to second chair to prevent any more "catastrophes" during the Lancaster case.
Tuesday's demoralizing courtroom loss lead to a noticeable tension between Alex and Detective Amaro, only made worse by the fact that Olivia was not present to temper the tension or offer words of encouragement.
Wednesday began with a spilled cup of hot tea, a ruined silk blouse, and a painful burn just above Alex's right breast. Later, Detective Rollins, while well-meaning, noted that Alex "looked tired." Given the soft concerned tone the woman's observation, Alex wanted to agree, but when a nearby detective helpfully added, "she's looked that way all week," it was all Alex could do not to cry in the middle of the squad room.
Thursday went by without incident, but Alex had yet to see Olivia since Sunday evening and the resulting absence made attorney feel alone and depressed.
When Friday finally arrived, Alex left work at seven that evening and headed home. Upon her arrival, to the empty apartment, she stepped out of her heels and sulked to the bedroom. The untidy sight was too much for the already tense and exhausted blonde. Olivia's obvious presence showed as the detective's clothes were strewn across the bedroom floor along with a damp bath towel, but it was the sight of Olivia's leather jacket, thrown haphazardly on Alex's pillow, that caused the prosecutor to lose it.
Alex missed Olivia; she was tired, emotionally drained, and now she felt slighted. With a force she did not even know she possessed, Alex snatched the jacket from the bed and hurled it to the other side of the room. It took her brain a moment to catch up and when it did, she laughed throatily, dropped to her knees and then cried uncontrollably. Because, there on her pillow was a basket stuffed with scented candles, bath salts, a bottle of tequila, a box chocolate truffles , a brand new vibrator, and a picture of Olivia in jeans, boots, and a torso bare with the exception of her leather jacket.
Yes, Alex had a bad week, but coming home to Olivia's thoughtful surprise ensured Alex that her week would definitely conclude with a happy ending.
